I need more info on Tua's injury/rehab. Until then, Using the draft simulator website the OP provided.... 5. Mekhi Becton (OT) - 6'7" mauler 18. Jerry Jeudy (WR) - I still can't believe it 26. Justin Herbert (QB) - taking a shot 39. DeAndre Swift (RB) - #1 ranked RB 56. Isaiah Wilson (OT) - 6'7" mauler 70. Tyler Biadasz (OC) - top center, IMO. Overpay for Brandon Scherff (OG) in free agency. We'll have one hell of a offensive line, a top RB, and playmakers at WR. I don't think even Chan Gailey can screw up this offense.
Has nothing to do with the QB he was, it has to do with how much mobility was part of his college game and how the injury might affect that. Maybe it won't, but I'm not willing to risk trading a bunch of picks on the chance.
I mean I get what you are saying, but I'm not changing my stance. Maybe I'm bias. I'm just not sold on Tua. At the end of the day... I'm not the GM so it doesn't really matter.
I think Jalen Hurts is a better QB than Love. If we pass on Tua (which I think we should because of injury risk) then I believe taking Hurts on day 2 is the best option.
I'm not sold on Bechton, he is big but got regularly beat in college. He is being over hyped because of physical tools while ignoring his actual production which was not that good. Only tackles worth a first round pick in my opinion are Thomas, Willis, and Jones.
Never happen but this would be fun, thats what the tool offered up. Getting Burrow at 5. Please. Dobbins at 56? Yippee. Cushenberry may be best C in draft and other than QB I could argue C is our biggest need. And I would put DT over QB today.I would rank our NEEDS DT, C, DE, G, QB, S, for next year and I could move G up to 1st. Where you can fill those needs will change order but going BPA down that list would work for me. 5. Joe BurrowQB, LSU 18. A.J. Epenesa, EDGE, Iowa 26. Lloyd Cushenberry III IOL, LSU 39. Raekwon Davis IDL, Alabama 56. J.K. Dobbins RB, Ohio State 70. Trey Adams OT, Washington
At my job I got Joe Burrow at 5 and Isiah Simmons at 18. I do not log in here on my work computer. I wish I could have shared that one.
I would do cartwheels from Iowa to Miami if this draft actually happened. Don’t even care after the first 2 but a lot of good played on that list.
70 Cam Akers, RB, Florida State 56 Trevon Diggs, CB, Alabama 39 Cesar Ruiz, IOL, Michigan 26 Andrew Thomas, OT, Georgia 18 Tristan Wirfs, OT, Iowa 5 Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama Annoyed to miss the tier 1 running backs as they're normally available at 56 but all gone this time.
Picking up three of the best offensive linemen in the draft certainly makes up for missing on the elite backs! I like what Akers has to offer, too.
You can only trade if you get offers and in this scenario there's no offers. In previous years I've always ended up with mocks where I've traded enough picks that I have 15 draft picks and can basically select every position I want but it's just not realistic.
That's true. But a trade down from #5 is still my first hope. We'll see how the first four picks go, but I would love to move down and pick up both first rounders from Vegas or Jacksonville.
My first three picks: QB - Justin Herbert OT - Josh Jones C - Tyler Biadazz or Edge, Yatur Gross Matos
OK, this one is pretty far out there. If this were to happen IRL, I'd faint from excitement. 5. Isiah Simmons 16. AJ Epenesa 26. Andrew Thomas 39. Cesar Ruiz 56. JK Dobbins 70. Isiah Wilson
This one blew me away (yes, it's a 4 rounder), what a core. Ruggs and Johnson added to Parker and Williams, Swift helming the RB spot (pair with a FA) and Thomas at tackle. Explosive and fast. Add Thuney or Scherff at G for a line upgrade. Defensively, great value and upside with Baun and Davis. 5 Tua Tagovailoa, QB Alabama 18 Henry Ruggs III, WR Alabama 26 Andrew Thomas, OT Georgia 39 Zack Baun, EDGE Wisconsin 56 D'Andre Swift, RB Georgia 70 Ashtyn Davis, S California 135 Tyler Johnson, WR Minnesota
5 Tua Tagovailoa, QB Alabama 18 Andrew Thomas, OT Georgia 26 Grant Delpit, S LSU 39 Antoine Winfield Jr., S Minnesota 56 Clyde Edwards-Helaire, RB LSU 70 Joshua Uche, EDGE Michigan
70 Kyle Dugger, S Lenoir-Rhyne 56 Antoine Winfield Jr., S Minnesota 39 J.K. Dobbins, RB Ohio State 26 Xavier McKinney, S Alabama 18 A.J. Epenesa, EDGE Iowa 5 Tua Tagovailoa, QB Alabama You see the #1 need I think the Dolphins need. Secondary, secondary, secondary.
With it being a month exactly until free agency opens, I wonder how many of our mock drafts will look stupid come the night of the draft?
Very true. With college football being a pain to try and find a way to watch here in the UK, I tend to only get to start learning these players during this time of the year. I suppose the bigger intrigue will be who's drafts still look possible post the start of free agency.
Just a suggestion. Buy an Enigma 2 or Android box and get an IPTV subscription with the US Sports and ESPN+ bouquets included. Normally will also include BT Sports, which show tons of NCAA games in UHD. That's how I do it.
Don't forget the Combine as well. All it takes is a few good 40's or cone drills for people to start vaulting up the board while others who perform poorly start dropping. I agree with your sentiment though, it's a good period to start becoming familiar with names, especially those in the middle/late rounds who didn't get tons of media exposure.
My first attempt... And my second, picking Swift up early at 39 as he was off the board by 56 previously.
5 Tua Tagovailoa , QB Alabama 18 Andrew Thomas , OT Georgia 26 Grant Delpit , S LSU 39 Zack Baun , EDGE Wisconsin 56 J.K. Dobbins , RB Ohio State 70 Isaiah Wilson , OT Georgia
Doing one of these tonight and both Becton and Simmons were there at 15 (Both gone by 18) and it got me thinking. Say we manage to get our QB at 5 without giving up assets. What players that have a halfway decent chance of dropping would you most want to trade up from 18 for? This is one of the draft's that I've had in the last few days, not too realistic but certainly a good haul of starters. 5. Tua Tagovailoa, QB Alabama 18. Isaiah Simmons, LB Clemson 26. Yetur Gross-Matos, EDGE Penn State 39. Austin Jackson, OT USC 56. Antoine Winfield Jr, S Minnesota 70. Cam Akers, RB Florida State
Probably Becton, Thomas, Wirfs if we had a chance at any of those three. Maybe Chaisson although he would probably still be on the board. Probably just one of the OT's mentioned really.
If we pass on a QB at 5 but want Herbert or Love, then that's an obvious answer. Otherwise, it's unique talents imo. Ruggs might fit the bill (as would Jeudy if he slips). Simmons, but I just don't see it. Otherwise there isn't anyone I would trade up for. Those tackles are good, but I am not sure they are that much better than, say, a Josh Jones at 26.
Out of those you mention Thomas is the only one worth a first round pick. The others are overhyped probable busts.
5. SS/OLB I. Simmons Clemson 18. OT Tristan Wirfs Iowa or OT Thomas Georgia or OT Jackson USC (One of these should be here) 26. FS Delpit LSU 39. EDGE Z. Baun Wisconsin 56. RB Swift Georgia or RB Dobbins OSU or RB Taylor Wisconsin (One might be left remaining here) 70. Center Tyler Biadasz Wisconsin Trade 2021 second rounder for OT Trent Williams Sign OG Thuney, Center Karras in Free Agency Start Josh Rosen.
I'd be okay with that...thrilled with the 1st round, but I'd take Taylor with that 39th pick or try to trade out of that one and land Taylor in the 40's. He puts me in that Ricky Williams workhorse mindset and i really want him on our team. Unfortunately though, I don't think Simmons makes it to #5...he's probably my favorite player in this draft.
Several have mentioned Simmons- I think he goes 3rd or 4th overall unless someone jumps forward to grab Tua....which I'm really rooting for at this point! I was reading earlier today and Tua has never completed a season of football at any level; he's been hurt every season throughout high school and now three straight seasons in college. I'd much prefer Simmons, a virtual 10-year lock at MLB (or corner, DE, SS, FS, OLB, etc...whatever we want) to lead this defense.
