    we are nowhere near out of the woods Section, it will be a couple more days before we will see which steering force will win. I am scared good over this one as I am convinced my home would not survive a cat 4+ AND there are no shelters here that are likely to fare any better. I just thought that it was very interesting that the NHC has decided the threat is north of us at this point. All bets could be off tomorrow am tho..

    Just to make a clarification, I believe those are alerts for Hanna and not Ike. Ike is still way off to the east to have alerts on the U.S.

    That would make more sense to me as that's exactly what the warnings from Hanna should look like at this point.

    you are correct Dave, I read the alert page wrong. Yesterday, they had none on the Hanna page, but they had up the "watch" box on the Ike page. I was surprised and pleased.. now I am not so pleased..

    I suggest you don't watch any south florida local news.

    I actually got very worried this morning and then I saw this thread and calmed down.

    Now I am just nervous. This morning I was in a panic, planning on moving property and electronics..etc..

    a Cat 4 CNC..there is nothing except for concrete roof systems that would survive. SO basically..all the rich people in WPB are safe.

    NO! lol

    I am showing that in some of the charts for Ike, they show info on Hanna. Ike's info is the one on the east going west and Hanna is the one on the west going north

    If Ike is coming at a 3 or more, I'm outta here, with the cats of course. My husband insists on staying to maintain the homestead, but that could change. I'm not going to get too wound up about it now, but I am a planner. Best case scenario, I could make it to South Carolina and stay with my parents. It's a hell of a drive though with the cats. So, here's a valuable site, for any type of travel:

    That might not be the best destination.. Ike may follow you. I'll tell ya Lisa.. my anxiety level just went up several notches with the 5pm advisory. Miami is the bulls eye and nearly all the models are coming into agreement there also. If nothing significant happens overnight, tomorrow am, I begin preparations.

    That's true. And they're preparing for Hanna right now. We already have plenty of food and water, shutters are ready, generator checked last week, etc. What do you think of somewhere north of Orlando? I could always make the reservations tomorrow or Sat. then cancel then in time.

    Well, things have gone to hell in a handbasket. Things are looking pretty grim for Miami, and the surrounding south Florida areas. There is some reasonable hope that Ike will miss by enough to not be catastrophic, but I think everyone right now in south Florida needs to be reviewing their plans and putting them into action. The hurricane hunters begin recon this morning, I think this will inpact the models and tighten them up. For the moment, Ike is major hurricane, but the actuall windfield is pretty small. Hurricane force winds are about 35 miles across, so if the size remains constant, the extreme danger field will be small.. like Andrew. Here is a link to a pretty good tool for viewing all the various spaghetti models;

    NHC Model Data for Hurricane Ike

    I suppose I should mention that our Sunday football game may be in jeapordy. I'm not sure what the rules are, but I would think we will all be under a hurricane warning by Sunday. The disaster managers might worry about the game traffic like they just did in NOLA with the LSU game they played a little early. "Maybe" the fact that it is a national game will have some impact on the decision making process.

    Here is a nice site for viewing the "big" picture. There are a ton of controls to play with.

    [IMG]

    couldn't stand it.. had to show you todays dawn, before it arrives.. this is the same satellitte, in "visable" mode.... notice that you can see Josephine being lit up by the early morning light.

    Hah. Don't I wish. My mother used all the vacation funds for a trip to Hungary, where she was born. She needed it too, after what's happened this year.

    I get the house, the cats, and the hurricane. :lol:

    I will Jon, thanks, when you live 30 feet from a body of salt water, you pay attention.

    The new model series has things moving a little further south, closer to the GFDL model.. which has prolly the best history overall, and was damned good on Gustav. I regret not saving any of these before now to offer you a comparison to see for yourself.

    I am willing this thing south with all my might. The current model set;

    [IMG]

    sadly UKMET hasn't shifted an inch, AND the NHC has been in agreement with this model for two days now.. I think you need to take the UKMET intensity forecast with a grain of salt, but the track model unfortunately seems to be the favored one, by those with bigger brains than me.

    Granted, if it comes here, I'll be high tailing it :pointlol: They don't do hurricane shutters in N. Fl. For some reason they all think they're bullet proof.

    I am near broward..so that UKMET track would leave me with a ton of water and winds that could be survived by regular CBS construction.

    if you live in the keys..it is simple....evacuate or die.

    I hate to wish this on anybody..but please grab cuba and die Ike.

    Thanks Joe, that's a very kind offer. I think I will be fine here.. it's the folks further south that are in danger, imo.

    WOOT !! the NHC has moved it's track south too... all you 305's look to have reason for hope.

    I"m starting to be a little more optimistic.

    The model as we've seen over and over again every storm is shifting.
    You never really know for sure where these things will go right up to the end sometimes. The models are shifting to the South and farther west.

    More optimism can be taken from the predicted attack of wind shear on Ike.
    I read that the same shear that tore Hanna up a little is still going to be there to weaken Ike. It's already weakened and we've all seen what wind shear can do to a Hurricane in the past. This thing may very well end up a much less intimidating storm.

    All that comes with the usual, "It's all really speculation right now" though.
