here you go again. I think tannehills play is absolutely sustainable but I’m no dummy and I know that damn place in tbe postseason has been a house of horrors for qb play.

I’ll tell ya this. What Ryan Fitzpatrick did last Sunday has no bearing on what happens today.

Ryan needs to control what he can control and execute in all phases his responsibilities. I have no problem telling you if he doesn’t. Never have.

but you gonna have to separate qb ask and assignment and accountability from everything else.

I will be knee deep in that tape.

Again, the question isn't whether he's going to perform well or poorly. The question is whether his last 10 games have made people view this as similar to a Mahomes versus Brady matchup or a Brees versus Brady matchup, for example.

In other words, is this being looked at like a matchup of two of the league's elite QBs? If not, then that says something about what Tannehill's past 10 games have done for him, in terms of putting him in that category.

Mahomes plays in the best qb system in football. In terms of design and scheme.

Tennessee’s not gonna run those concepts cause they don’t have that level design or skill guys. Kelce is a matchup monster and dictates to coverage.

aj brown is legit but he is a rookie and the pats usually do a good job of taking away your top threat.

The more the titans can maintain the sticks the more success they have today.

    100% agreed.

Seattle getting Russell Wilson in the 3rd round and saying that is how they went for the quarterback is the right way is like saying that everyone should invest in penny stock with the hope of one of them exploding.

The reality is Seattle failed but lucked into getting a hall of fame quarterback. If their evaluation was correct he would have been their first pick in the draft. In fact they probably should have traded up for him.

I understand that some do not like the idea when people say that the draft is a "crap shoot" and yes that is an over simplification. You do a lot of research, however, hitting 50% of your draft picks as starters is a great draft, especially if 1 of those players turns out to be an all pro.

Exactly. I've been saying for awhile that getting Wilson in the third wasn't a vindication of Seattle's FO, it is an indictment of all 32 teams' FOs.

People forget that the same year the hawks drafted russell Wilson in the 3rd they signed Green Bay’s backup QB to multi year starter money.

so all in they were not. Which also is a tell based on the fact they waited til the 3rd round to pull the trigger. Sometimes it just works out right for ya. No one ever really talks about how many more 100s of times it doesn’t.

Agreed. I remember people at the time saying that Miami should emulate the Seahawks in finding a quarterback, when in fact drafting quarterbacks low, making trades, and signing back ups that have played a few good games is exactly what both teams were doing at the time.

Seattle struck pay dirt, Miami failed.

After watching Tannehill this season in Tennessee...and before anyone jumps down my throat, this is not a dig at Wilson, he has definitely maturedinto an elite QB...but what do you think Tannehill's resume would look like if he'd been asked to only lead his offense to more than 16 points a game while having a stout run game to support him? I think we'd have seen 5-7 years of this current level of play. Maybe wouldn't have been this good the first season or two.

I was interested in Flynn myself. He put together a hell of a tape vs Detroit I think it was which basically got him paid by the hawks. That one start. Literally

He wouldn’t have offset the oline play in pass pro but the run game with lynch for instance where I literally saw 9 man boxes even that couldn’t stop it and that 5 year run of all timer level top shelf defense would have been a hell of a boost for the qb.

in terms of qb development I can’t think of a much better scenario to do it in. Well maybe more pass pro considering tannehill was always gonna be a pre snap and progression read qb. But you could easily have pivoted to a play action based offense when you have that type of run game and defense to keep you always on schedule scoreboard and sticks wise.

and tannehill would have carved you up out of it in the process. Like he is doing now in Tennessee.

I mean, this is sort of beating a dead horse, but Tannehill was asked to stay in the pocket no matter what his first three years...even though there wasn't a pocket. It all comes back to that offensive line and asking him to ignore what he does best (scramble, throw on the run) while taking all those unnecessary hits. Truthfully, it's pretty amazing that he wasn't lost to concussion protocols like Matt Moore because he's been used and abused throughout his career.

With that said though, if we had a decent feature back in Miami (which we have had in Gore, Miller, Drake, Ajayi, etc) AND a versatile line that protected the QB and opened up running lanes, I think we would have seen this Tannehill in year 4. We couldn't have seen him in years 1-3 though because we were asking him to be Dan Marino instead of embracing his skill-set and playing like a Wilson, Newton, etc.

I know I've said this a thousand times but I really, really, really wish we kept Gase for one more season (and waited on Grier one more year) since this is the Tannehill we might have seen. I think folks give too little credit to RT's injuries (and offensive line injuries) to understand that we started seeing this version of Tannehill several years ago.

That away game in NE three seasons ago where Tannehill threw 4 TD passes in the 2nd half and had a 5th one dropped at the end of regulation...both Gase and Belichek saw the RT we're witnessing today. I challenge anyone go back and watch the 4th quarter of that game and key in on Belichek watching from the sideline specifically...the look on his face was all we need to know. He was in complete disbelief because our boy was truly unstoppable with the right surrounding pieces, and that was one of the few contests where everyone was healthy and executing at a high level.

That was the future of the Miami Dolphins with one more season under Gase and a draft tightening down the line. We were so close to seeing it all come together.

So to me your question is kinda dumb...we don't have to wonder about the answer because we actually saw it in short spurts when we weren't asking 3rd string linemen to protect RT's blindside. And for the record, it's not like I'm a massive Gase fan...but I was a huge fan of his belief in Tannehill being one of the best around. He told us this season was coming all along- Grier was just the louder voice in the room at the worst possible time and the rest is history.

But like I said Fitz read the defense extremely well and Tannehill not so good and Fitz get rid of the ball fast while Tannehill has a habit of holding onto the ball too long and get sacked and fumbles a lot when he does..

Threw for 2 TDs in that half...they were on late in that one, but a good chunk of that was garbage time (down 31-3 in the 3rd).

fitz take off and run with it (which evidently was league leading in terms of number of times a qb ran witb it) was more than just about offsetting o line play which seems to be the easy answer. It was also largely about inability to know where to go witb the football early pre to post snap.

I should have phrased that "4 TD drives" then...couldn't remember how many he tossed for TD's but it was passing that moved the ball. And it's hard to say it was "garbage time" when Parker dropped the game-tying TD pass as the clock expired.

They came up with the correct conclusion for they are only researching the QBs the were drafted in the number 1 overall seed and no others ..The study had to do with QBs that were drafted number 1 overall and not the first draft of teams..It was just researching the out come of that pick and that pick only concerning QBs...

Can't call the 3rd quarter "garbage time." Garbage time is like down by 3 or 4 scores with 5 minutes to go lol

I expect Tannehill to chew up New England’s defense to tell you the truth.

I suspect however even if Tannehill does what I think he’s going to do, the naysayers will still sing the “yea, but” song.

If the Patriots defense does indeed show up and plays like the defense they’re supposedly rated to be, instead of talking about the defense, the naysayers will sing the “I told you” song.

Either way, regardless of tonight’s game, we’ll still be carrying on the same conversation that’s been going on since week 7

Hey Dummuck- welcome to the site!

We're always happy when new folks join us that actually do some homework and share knowledge from around the web. I'm not a moderator here, but we do have a general policy that if you're using an outside source, to-

#1- Include a link to that article so the author gets fair credit
#2- Only copy/paste small parts of the article so you're not infringing on the original author

Again, this is not a "complaint" and we're thrilled that you're here! We just don't want to break any internet rules about copyrights and cause the site any legal trouble. You can absolutely copy/paste a paragraph or two, give your thoughts on it, then copy a little more in a different section of your post...almost like reviewing the article (which is 100% legal). It's not legal to just copy/paste an entire article though without anything else going on.

Tom Brady has started 40 postseason games in his career, and in 15 of them (37.5%) he's posted a passer rating that didn't give his team a better chance of winning than losing. So it's not like he's invincible in the postseason, due to his own performance at least.

If Tannehill plays the way he has the past 10 games and Brady plays like he did in one of the games noted above, the Titans would be all but guaranteed a win.

I am not surprised that Tannehill is doing well but i am that he is playing this well..He was a little held back here for one the front line he has now is a lot better then he ever had here..He also dont have to put up with Laudry or whatever his name is..It is a shame when your number on WR is not a team player and cares more about himself and not the team..Cared more abut showing off then not getting all those 15 yard flags..What made things even worse was that Tannehill was at his greatest durning the non-huddle but Laudry could not read the defense and not run that...But I still didnt think he do this goodLOL..

It was simple math that was used and he told you how and it had nothing to do with other picks or drafts but QBs drafted 1st over all....What part of that did you not understand ? Why are you trying to make a simple study so complicated ?

Because he's saying stuff like "none of these players truly stand out with overwhelmingly impressive stats" without giving us any idea what "impressive stats" even looks like. You HAVE to compare to the rest of the league to have any idea of that.

Worse, he then goes on to say "To further compare these quarterbacks and how they perform in the league, I made the following table for their season averages".. without comparing to the rest of the league!!

Then he talks about how there's no evidence "drafting a QB (first overall) leads to team success" without showing the comparable winning percentages for QB's drafted elsewhere.

This was NOT a "simple study". It was simply not a study in the first place.

He needs coursework in research design/methodology because the foundation for analyzing the question/hypothesis with statistics isn't yet there.
