PENALTIES- A Parcells team usually is very disciplined bunch. If we can keep the yellows in the refs pants it will be that much easier to keep the chains rollin, and keep the defense off the field.

FIELD POSITION- Here is where we really benefit from having Ted Ginn Jr. If hes not taking it to the house we should be getting good return yards. This also goes to the Miami D. Pressure Favre, chase em, knock'em down and pin them up. Everyone is taking our D pretty light but it looks like they can cause some trouble. Major props to Roth excelling in his new position.

GOAL LINE O- I believe it was against Kansas City that we were on the KC 3 and we had like 6 different opportunities to get in but settled for a FG. Punch the pigskin in.

    JETS
HEAT- Come well conditioned. Its going to be hot and humid. Keep the Jet D off the field.

DONT RUN AWAY FROM THE RUN- New York dosnt exactly have the most talented running backs in the league, but you have to establish the run game early, wear the D line down, and control clock. Hold on to the rock, dont give Miami extra opportunities.

DO NOT COME IN OVER CONFIDENT- period.

    - Where has Ted Ginn Jr shown he can "Take it to the house" on demand? He did it once last year (please don't talk about ones pulled back for penalties, that is absurd).

    - Comparing KC in preseason against NYJ in regular season is a laugh.

    - The heat will be a deal, but it is not like it is 10 degrees here in NYC.

    - NYJ has a MUCH improved offensive line and should be able to give T-Jo a few more holes to run through. Remember, you gave him his only TD last year. Plus, that was the Chad Pennington Defensive Look (put 8 in the box and dare Chad to throw it). With Favre, if you put 8 in the box, you are going suffer down the sidelines.

    - I worry about the last point. First games are tough and the Jets have a HUGE game the next week. It is up to Mangini to keep them focused on the 1-15 Dolphins not the 16-0 Patriots. I don't think it will be a blowout, but the Jets will pull it out.

Your D last season had two play makers, this year?

I know it will be a good game, they always are. Can't say Chad on the Dolphins makes me happy, but it isn't making me change my underwear yet either.

Now going to SD after the Patriots, THAT is scary.

The Jets need 2-2 by the bye.

The Fins had zero playmakers on defense last season this year I would say they have 1 maybe 2 possibly 3. Joey Porter back at his natural position makes him an instant playmaker and I believe Jason Allen will be a ballhawk this season and Crowders play this pre-season has made me optimistic about his ability.

BZ I wouldn't call Zach a "playmaker". Maybe early in his career he was but the last few he def was not. JT was a playmaker in the truest sense of the word. You keep saying the 1-15 Dolphins, move past it. The calendar has changed to a new season.

No one is saying this a matchup between a 1-15 team and 4-12 and if they are it shows how little they know about sports and football in general. Both teams are 0-0. Lets see what happens this weekend

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight... and the Patriots aren't 16-0.

Your record changes after the first game ends. At that point you are either 1-0 or 0-1, until that point you are 1-15, we are 4-12 and the Pats are 16-0.

Sorry, but that is just the truth. As Tuna says "You are what your record says you are".

We are what our record says we are. Go to any standings on any site. All teams are 0-0. So we are 0-0. The 1-15 Phins are no longer in existence in every sense of the word.

We are 4-12 but I can point to a lot of changes in the off season to make a 4-12 team look like it could get 8-8 and above. Can you point to the same on the Dolphins to show how the 1-15 team is going to get to 8-8?

I hope you win the preseason Super Bowl. The victory party will be at Ricky's house.

I see who the Jests signed and I'm seeing 3 good players in Faneca, Pace and Favre. The rest are just meh and don't understand all the hype the others are getting i.e Kris Jenkins.

Heat won't be a factor. The jets practice in 90 degree weather with a ton of humidity.
At least you get a breeze in Florida. August and Sept in NJ is like a brick oven.

Sure why not? Ist of all. Your Jets have had their best seasons when Pennington has been healthy and playing. So love him or hate him Pennington makes a difference. Everything points to a much improved OL and DL. This year we have a true and experienced NT. RB is healthy again - he's showing flashes of picking up where he left off last year. How about RW? He's re- focused and appears ready to try and win the rushing title again.
ANd then theirs Ginn. Sorry but if we're going to speculate then, it's got to be okay to mention the returns that were nullified due to penalty. Plus he's already brought one back this year, as well. I know that you would like to downplay every bright spot that we see, but the truth is we're speculating just as you are

Jenkins if he stays healthy will be a beast for them. The first two preseason games he did nothing, but remember he is learning a new position. The last one he was dominant. If he clogs the middle, that frees up their LB's whom are very good to make plays. In fact Harris whom was very good last year at LBer could become a huge force. Don't under estimate what Jenkins can do for the Jets.

I hate the Jets, but they have a good team. I'm just glad they didn't draft a better RB than Jones.

Its not that huge a factor, like I said, its been hot and humid with no rain up here for over a month. It may not be Florida hot, but its not like they are not use to it.

Its only becomes a factor if we can keep their defense on the field for long drives which I'm sure we are going to try and do.

Well, we won more games, had our share of close ones, and absolutely wasted you guys with Kellen Clemens running the O last season. I don't think it's delusional to feel a little confident going into this game. Besides, as fans we can be as confident as we want as long as the players have both feet planted firmly on the ground.

It's still Jets vs. Phins though...all bets are off when these 2 meet. I think we win the game, and by more then a last minute FG, but it should be a good game none the less.

With all sincerity, BZ - how long have you been a Jets fan? Were you a fan when the Jets went 1-15 under Kotite? If so then you remember Parcells coming in the next year and the Jets going 9-7 his first year there.
Extreme turnarounds???? Parcells has proven he can facilitate them.

Totore, that isn't always the better thing. We have 15 new players on offense, 13 on defense and 1 new Kicker. Total of 29 new players. The players need to develop chemistry and chemistry doesn't come in a couple weeks. It is a positive that we are building this team the way it should be built but we do have a lot of new players and they do need to 'gel'. We don't know how long that will take.

In The Dude's post, I agreed with everything but I found it interesting that the new philosophy isn't even brought up as one of the key points. We need to have a successful running game or we will be on the losing end of this game. If we have success against the run, the play-action will develop for us and Pennington is one of the best at it, if not the best. The WR's have to make some plays. I'm interested to see Ginn go up against Revis of NY. I like Revis a whole lot. Opposite of Revis, I have questions there. Hagan or whoever they wish to put out there needs to step up and make plays. I don't know how much confidence the Jets have in Justin Miller playing there. Maybe a Jet fan can elaborate on that.

Another one is the play of the defensive as a whole. The linebackers have to make sure that they cover the guys coming across the middle and out of the backfield. We saw in the Tampa Bay pre-season game that we gave up several 4 yard dump-offs and after a couple of them, the Buccaneers had a first down which enabled them to continue they're drive. I don't expect the Jets to run the vanilla offense against us but if they struggle with down field throws, they could very well end up doing that. Leon Washington can be dangerous with the ball in his hands coming out of the back field, running and receiving. The defensive linemen have to apply pressure on Favre. Favre will make mistakes if he is pressured. If we fail to pressure him, he could pick our secondary apart, which leads me to my next key. The secondary needs to make plays. They don't necessarily have to force turnovers but at least bat the ball down at all angles like we saw Jason Allen in the Buccaneers game. Favre can throw deep and Cotchery certainly can do for Favre. Coles can do it too but Cotchery scares me more.

On the Jets side of things, they have to rush the passer and stop the run. If they fail to stop the run, it could be a long day for them. That second CB spot is still a question as I previously mentioned but maybe Miller can make some plays for them. Kris Jenkins has apply pressure and clog up the middle, freeing up David Harris to make plays. Harris is becoming a very good player fast imo.

On offense for the Jets, they don't neccesarily have to have a very good running game against us imo. Favre can carry a team for a game or so and he proved it last year, carrying the Packers the first seven or so weeks. Their receivers need to make plays.

Don't underestimate Miami's healthy secondary because I know Brett can't tackle as well as he can throw.

You can't be serious thinking that the teams that are lining up on Sunday are those same teams represented by last seasons record?

It would be like blaming Brett Favre for inconsistent Jet's offense last season.

Regardless of the trend that you're alluding to another trend is that he has brought about improvement in each of those instances. In some cases the improvement has been from one season to the next.
And I was quite specifically referring to that latter.
Most recently, he took a 5-11 Cowboys team and transformed them into a 10-6 team the very next year. So that trend could point to him possible being better at it than before.

On paper the Jets have the better team, but paper is all it is till the clock expires on sunday.

Both teams are much different than last year and neither should expect an easy game. Certainly the Phins should be underdogs, but if the Jets think this team will just roll over for them they are in for a nasty shock.

I agree with this. So I checked with NFL.com - Official Site of the National Football League and noticed that our official record is....3-1. HA! And tied for first place with you guys!

(before you think I am a mongoloid, I realize that it is preseason. My point is, anyone who thinks this is a 1-15 team this year, is bound to set themselves up for dissapointment).

Furthermore, we didn't have two playmakers last year. Zach was out pretty much all seaosn long (including the two Jersey Jet games) and JT was double and triple teamed almost every play. No one is terribly effective when that happens.

I think you will be surprised this season at how much better the phins are. But if you want to live in last year and remember all of the glory of the 2007 Jets (4-12), then so be it.

The Dolphins and the Jets are teams that last year were 1-15 and 4-12 respectively. The talent they showed last year wasn't that far apart. In fact, in their first meeting last season, before the Dolphins were completely ravaged by injuries (they were only missing a few key players then), it was a 3 pt game in NY. Since then both teams have made substantial changes. The Jets' changes are more high profile so many people have higher expectations for them. But high profile FA additions don't always pay dividends, (see most Washington Redskin's seasons since Snyder bought the team). That's b/c football is a team game and while I believe that the Jets have more proven individual talent I don't see anything that proves they are a better team. I'm really looking forward to Sunday.

No doubt the Dolphins will get better under Parcells. I mean, there is no option. He will bring in the right players and put the team together.

That being said, is "better" good enough and if gets you to 8-8 this season and and possibly 9-7 next but with no playoffs, will you be happy?

Again, the Tuna will work his magic, but does he have enough as the top guy (not coach) and will he stick around long enough to see it done all the way to the Super Bowl?

The heat in Miami is a concern, but if your team is in good condition they should be able to handle it. I'll never forget the Jets playing that Sunday night game in Miami when they clinched a playoff spot in 1998. late in the game with the Dolphins trying to come from behind the Dolphins receivers were gassed and exhausted with hands on knees, while the Jets db's and entire defense were not tired at all. it was pretty obvious in that game who was in better shape.

As for not having any talent at rb? :pointlol:

The way this regime keeps hoarding draft picks and then cashing them in Ill take it...I think improvement may come a little faster than you think.

we have been down the patchwork/FA route and it sucks..this is the right way imo just look at the colts pats chargers...just a sprinkling of trades/FA but built from the draft.

I suppose, sine you are a Jersey Jets fan that we will have to spell out every little detail.

You see, the HEALTHY Miami secondary is a good one. Good enough to cover the receivers and good enough to disrupt Bret Favre. Favre, thinking his poop doesn't stink, even at this stage of his career, is apt to throw at least a couple of passes he shouldn't.

The healthy secondary will be primed to intercept said passes and run them back. The original poster infers that Favre is not much of a tackler or defender, which he will turn into once said passes are intercepted.

    All better now?

"living" as old as your QB is he barely qualifies for that statement.

Surely you must know the difference between the capabilities of a defensive secondary with no injuries and the first string players versus one that is banged up and deep in the depth chart right?
