Pittsburgh's division is not as strong as it's been in the past but the Browns and Ravens should be first and second. I don't see Bengals being a threat. So I only see Dolphins,Colts, Jets, and Bengals as possible wins for them with only one for sure. They have the Chargers and Cardinals that could go either way but those two should win if Steelers are struggling on offense. If this holds true they should win 1- 5 games. Might be a very good draft pick.
I know this absolutely WONT happen but imagine if the Steelers and Texans finished with the worst records after us. Picks #1, #2 and #3 Honestly the Texans are the part that has no shot really.
Let's hope the Jets don't somehow tank better than we do... I mean, we have to play them twice this year. I can't even imagine how those games are going to go.
I feel like they will win some games. They arent as bad as us, but it is a division rivalry so we could pull one out....maybe.
I mean, he forced a fumble two days ago and played very well the entire game. The idea that he was likely our best defensive player of the night doesn't jibe with "he quit."
Flores worked for BB for 15 years. He's trying to emulate a defensive genius. I trust him in how he wanted to use Minkah 100%.
Steelers are getting a heck of a player, I wish him the best. He was quickly becoming one of my favorite guys here until this happened. I guess X is now my favorite Dolphin. I really hope we don't trade anyone else of value. I understand getting a boat laod of picks, but we need to have at least a few talented players already on this roster in my opinion. I guess everything has a price though, and we got a nice return for Fitzpatrick once again. I have a good reason to root against both Pittsburgh and Houston this season. I think it's more realistic at this point that Pittsburgh struggles this year to an 8-8 or 7-9 record and that pick lands in the 11-13 range. So...props to the front office for at least recouping the pick of a player that doesn't want to be here. Hopefully it works out.
Playing the Jests this year is going to be a quagmire. If we win, then Gase sucks that badly. If we lose, then we ask why we got rid of him.
LOL no one should be asking this. He left when he was told we were gonna tear it all down to rebuild.
Gase has been getting destroyed the last two weeks just so y’all know.. the media has been rawdogging him. He is not a head coach at this level. His super complex and advanced offense has netted the jets 11 total points in two weeks. They got 2 points on a safety and one pick 6 from their defense. So the Jets offense is averaging 5.5 points per game and the dolphins are averaging 5 points per game. I will say tho their defense does look better than ours. But a matchup of jets vs dolphins might end in a 0-0 overtime tie.
lol I would LOVE that just to get into the record books (that's not a bad record to hold). There have been an unbelievable 73 games that ended in a 0-0 tie in NFL history but none in the SB era. Last one was in 1943. Here's a list of all of them: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/game_scores_find.cgi?pts_lose=0&pts_win=0 Of course this was all before overtime. So 0-0 overtime tie would be a first. Also.. that takes care of not going 0-16 which we better not do. 0-15-1 is different.
I already thought of that as well- even three top 10 picks would be incredible....especially since we should pick 1st in the 2nd round as well.
Well, we play them twice....so we could always hope for 0-14-2. There's your record book stat! I can't imagine 0-16 with Rosen playing though- not after two PERFECT TD drops and all his pre-season strikes to the end zone. He will win a game for us this season.
Hard to say given the obvious current circumstances, but I will say this: We only have 13 penalties which is tied for 3rd lowest in the league thus far. I like to use that as an early measuring stick for coaching and player discipline, and so far it looks good. To pose a counter example, that was always a weak point under Gase which was a big red flag for me. And it wasn't just aggressiveness that led to them in such areas like pass interference, defensive holding, or the likes, but bonehead blunders like false starts, offsides, unsportsmanlike, etc. And, which should be to no one's surprise, lo and behold, the Jets are currently tied for 2nd most in the league thus far with 20. I'm so glad that poser of a HC was given the boot. Better yet, Gase went to a division rival to trash them for the next few years. Cheers to that. I like the way Flores runs practices, the way him and staff teach, and the discipline they have instilled. It's a wait and see game on how the team responds down the road, but I like what I see in those areas.
The definition of “quit” is to leave or stop doing your job. He didn’t stop doing his job, like Vontae Davis retiring at half time - that is the definition of quitting. He didn’t stop coming i to the Dolphins and he didn’t stop training, and he didn’t stop putting effort in on the field. Wanting a new job is not quitting, unless you get onto Mirriam Webster and get him to change the definition for you.
So he’s a team leader in your eyes. Stepping up as the 1st round pick. “I don’t like how you’re using me so trade me”. Is a team player and not quitting on your team. Ok sure.
Stop with the silly semantics. Minkah quit on this football team. He was coddled his entire football life in attending a private, all-male, prep school (that ignorant sexist **** still exists?! Wacko religious folk) and then Alabama where he never experienced turmoil or struggles. And when it came time in his professional career to be challenged, in contributing to a team that obviously needed his talents, he ****ing quit. Cried a spoiled little child and demanded a trade. The only reason he continued to perform on the field was for a hopeful future employer. Minkah's early professional career has marked him as a quitter, someone who couldn't rise to the challenge. He's a straight up loser; it's as simple as that.
If I work at Wal-Mart, and leave (but still work my shift to my best ability) because i don't like something(s) about working there and get a job at Target, did I quit Wal-Mart?
I.... I hadn't thought about that, but yeah, the taint of 0-16 would NOT apply. We didn't win a game, but we didn't lose every one either. Ah, it's the Jests, I want to win at least the home game against them. They'll get their young QB back and win a couple games with him anyway.
You may not blame him and think he was justified, but that doesn’t change the name of the action he took.
He didnt quit though. He never stopped playing or working. He just made it known he didnt like the situation he was in. There was no indication he would hold out or whatever. Also even if it was quitting, which it isnt, I hate how people assume that is a negative. As if no-one here has ever tried to improve their situation or something. If anyone in the secondary is a quitter, its Jones who literally quit playing during a game.
He worked for X company, didn’t want to work there anymore and left that company. That is, by definition, quitting. It’s up to each person to find that as a negative or positive but it doesn’t change the definition of what he did. I personally don’t see it as a negative in him. A person can quit their job for whatever reason they want. I think this notion of loyalty from a player, that we demand, towards a team, that has no loyalty to individual players is silly. I also don’t think in every situation with opposing sides, that one side has to be wrong and the other has to be right. In this situation, I believe Minkah is right to want play where he wants to and the team is right for trying to fix decades of mediocrity. It’s a shame it couldn’t be worked out, but no one is in the wrong and he did quit the Dolphins. Maybe the issue is the semantics between the phrases “quit the team” versus “quit on the team”. He did quit the team, but at no point did he quit on the team.
That isn't what quitting is though. He didnt leave on his own. That is my point, that your definition of quitting is much too broad IMO.
Yes he did. In the NFL, there are employment contracts. He cannot just walk away from the team and go play for another NFL team. His people went out and found trade partners to compensate the team for him wanting out of his contract with the Dolphins.
The team gave him permission to do so. If he sat out games I'd agree with you but he didnt walk out on his contract, he asked if he could be moved and was granted it.
He quit the only way an NFL player can and still be able to get another job with another team. If he sat out, then he quit ON the team, which is different, as i explained before.
There is more nuance than that though. We have all seen the guys that check out when they have their 2 weeks in. I think Pauly is just saying the guy gave you his best for the short time he was still going to be with the team. There is nothing wrong with giving the guy some respect for doing that. Not saying that you can't still call him a quitter, just saying I see what Pauly is saying.
So you're admitting it isnt quitting but what you consider the NFL equivalent of quitting? That is what it sounds like. Then you contradicted yourself by pointing out another way a player can quit....after saying the first way is the only way to do so and have a job....which isnt true. This is all semantics and at this point I'm not even being very serious about it
Completely agree. To add to that, he gets paid millions and took a large signing bonus but then didn’t fulfill his end of the bargain. I think about all the people who go work their a**es off to make $30-40k per year for their family and never quit, under much worse circumstances and a fraction of what Minkah makes to play a game and live a life few get to experience. I’m not gonna cry over spilled milk but I’m also not gonna justify his actions.
My take has nothing to do with respect. And respect has nothing to do at all with the definition of quitting. I explain in another post that I think people are using "quit on the team" and "quit the team" interchangeably. They aren't interchangeable. Minkah quit the team, he didn't quit on the team.
Ok, you're really not understanding this at all. It may be my fault for not explaining it better. It may also be that you're too emotional over all this to look at it objectively.
