Could easily be a higher pick than we initially paid, but I would have preferred at least another pick or player. Not a bad trade though, paying it forward. If the dude wanted out, we got equal back.

That pick will be top 10.. at worst top 15... Steelers are going nowhere with Ben and i don’t see Mason flipping it around for them.. they’re already 0-2...

Houston’s pick may be the highest pick we got out of our 3 first rounders.. looking at around 18-23 IMO..

And then our pick will likely be Top 3 if not the first pick overall.. and that pick has to be Chase Young or a trade down.. ain’t no way we waste a top 3 pick on a guy like Tua, I wouldn’t spend that kind of pick on a left handed Marcus Mariota....

Enjoy Pittsburgh! I hear it’s lovely and the icy roads are beautiful.

I’d rather have whatever offensive weapon or Olineman we select to protect Tua with this pick than minkah.

It will be fun when the Dolphins build their offense around...Josh Rosen.
The trade for Rosen makes sense only if they felt he was a worthy qb to build around for 2020. And sitting Rosen behind Fitzpatrick makes sense in that they would prefer to protect him for part of the year before turning it over to him. Unfortunately Fitzpatrick's play is going to force their hand sooner.
Rosen with several offensive line picks, and a couple of receiving weapons could turn the Dolphins into a respectable offense very quickly. And if Rosen fails, then those 2 first rounders in 2021 will land that QB.

PS I am very happy the Steelers, despite likely being a non playoff team, decided to make this trade.

    Next year's offense...

    QB - 2020 #1 overall pick (Tua)
    LT - 2020 2nd round pick
    LG - Dieter
    C - 2020 2nd round pick
    RG - 2020 1st round pick
    RT - 2020 1st round pick (Tua's BS)

    Fix the damn offense.

Buy the best CB (to pair with Xavien) and pass rushers available in free agency. You can afford to outbid anyone.

Use the 2021 draft to keep building the defense and playmakers for offense.

This one first, to me, is more valuable than both Texans firsts.

This has a shot to be a legitimately great pick for us.

The thing that concerns me going forward, lets give Grier the benefit of doubt. We have 14 picks in next years draft and let's say somehow we hit on the vast majority. These contracts are all going to come up within a two year window. How in the heck are you going to be able to pay all these guys at the same time?

Maybe grab at least one corner or end high in the draft, that's 5 years of having a premier position on a rookie contract. OL does not cost as those positions in free agency.

I think you need to mix the position groups at least a little regarding draft and free agency.

Well right now we literally have noone under a large contract. If we dont have anyone from the outside signed to a big deal it probably wont be an issue.

It's only a problem if they are all elite at their positions...in which case we probably won a Superbowl or made the playoffs at least already.

Maybe we will trade a pick or two for better picks in the following draft. I think the compensation is a round higher the following year. That way we keep on building through the draft and have extra picks to work the board to get the players we want and not having to settle on who falls to us.

Unless we start trading picks for future years, we’ll end up with a whole bunch of first and second rounders from 2020 and 2021 coming due at the same time, plus add in any late rounders that blossom and become solid starters. Of course we can avoid this problem by whiffing on our picks.

I have little doubt they will be active on the draft weekend moving around the board. I have a very hard time believing they would draft 14 guys in one draft. Still, even if you move around and gain more picks for the 2021 draft these contracts are going to be coming up within a couple of years of each other. And sure we have a pretty good pile of money available to us next year but that doesn't mean we will 4 or 5 years from now. It's going to take some very clever cap management or we will be letting a bunch of guys go all over again in a few years, right when we are expecting to be very competitive.

Just food for thought. Will be interesting to see how it plays out down the road.

Forgot about him in all the trading of players. Still though, it shouldnt be a huge problem unless we hit a home run with almost every pick.

I don't know and could be wrong, but I think Grier is going to change up his draft strategy this time around. I see us being more proactive by targeting guys we want, and trading picks away for current and/or future resources. I also hope we have a backup plan in case we can't get Tua. Other team's are sucking pretty bad this year too.

Side question: who gets traded next? Drake?

I hope not. But of anyone on this team I would expect him to want out more than any other. The guy just doesn't get enough play time.
I didn't understand why that was until I read an article the other day and he seems to be in that Jay Ajayi mold and doesn't do what he is supposed to do when he's on the field on a consistent basis. Therefore the coaches don't trust him even though he is our most talented back. This has been true under Gase and now Flores.

Honestly, asidebfrom a QB at #1 overall which seems like a guarantee at this point, I hope he focuses on building an offensive line this year.

Parker and William's look like legit weapons on the outside thisbl year...the problem is getting them the damn ball.

LOL - I was actually thinking about this. If that happens, I would consider it a high quality problem to have, and certainly better than the other side of that coin.

In my opinion, when it became clear that Fitzpatrick wasn’t going to become the next Earl Thomas, getting a first round pick for him was a coup. I don’t think his value is that of a game-changer like Thomas.

If he had Earl Thomas potential, they would have him roaming around back there and defending the deep ball and picking off passes. Instead, they don’t really know what to do with him.

Its a little early to tell what he is in the NFL but Earl Thomas he is not... he’s closer to Haha Clinton Dix if anything.. solid but not a game changer.

We now have such a good haul of picks in 2020 and 2021 that I'd start trading picks EVERY year from here on out to perpetually have two 1st rounders. A 2nd rounder this year is valued at a 1st rounder next year (that's just the asking price whether anyone thinks there's any logic to that or not.. there is a logic to it if you don't have job security) so why not start trading a 4th for a 3rd, a 3rd for a 2nd, a 2nd for a 1st, etc...? Doesn't have to be so systematic but doing it this way you could theoretically replace a 3rd in one year for a 1st 2 years down the road, etc.. If we're smart we can have 2 1sts and 2 2nds every year, sacrificing only a few lower round picks each year.

The Steelers should pick in the top 10-15, possibly even lower, so if they believe Minkah is a lockdown slot corner that can eventually transition to a lockdown safety, it was a smart move. Especially if they didn't see a guy with higher potential in the draft next year....which they probably don't. I think Miami should have got a little more though...a 1st and maybe a future 3rd or something like that.

I hate to see Minkah go but if he 100% wanted out, then we got good value for him under the circumstances.

He quit on the team so getting 1st rounder is pretty good. I likes him. Even owned his jersey (China buy only $35 so I don't feel too bad). Oh well. Going to my 1st home game in 2 weeks. My wife says "just enjoy the experience". I'm a little afraid of the experience - LoL.

I didn't want him to go but if he don't want to be here let him go.I think it may be one of those trades that could help both teams and the player get's his wish.We got good compensation but it makes the train wreck hard to watch this year.

Maybe our coaches are inept and are misusing him? His last coach was fired and is currently 0-2 and his current coach has been outscored 102-10 and is also 0-2. Earl Thomas wouldn't be what he is if he didn't have proper coaching. Not saying Fitz is going to a future All Pro but it's hard to evaluate any player under the current and previous circumstances.

If there is anyone I fully trust in utilizing Minkah, it is Flores or others like him from the Belichick defensive coaching tree. It's what they do. Everyone plays multiple positions. And not just cross trained in case of injury, but rather versatile among different positions to exploit match ups.

For all the claiming of high character and versatility, Fitzpatrick turned out to be a spoiled little *****.

Now Minkah will go to the Steelers, land that high profile position so he can be noticed, and play pretty well I presume. But in the long run, I truly believe we will have the better long term success.
