How much confidence does everyone have in these two going forward?

Grier especially scares the hell out of me... Do we really want this guy making the picks next year?

His last three 1st round picks all appear to range from Busts (Harris) to JAGS (Minkah/Wilkins) not to mention his second round “gems” of Gesecki and McMillan... This clown has a managed to stay in the shadows for 20 years and coincidentally that’s precisely the length of time in which we’ve been unable to draft competently.

Flores sounds like a buffoon and can’t string a sentence together without “uhm”
Every. Other. Word. which doesn’t instill much confidence.... his post game presser was laughable. I predict the team will tune him out by week 8 if not sooner.

I actually feel bad for Flores. Imagine, being told, we are gonna rebuild in your vision starting from scratch. We are gonna land the first pick in the draft and get you Tua. I don't think he could have possibly envisioned how much tearing down was going to happen.

I think obviously, the first rule of tank club is that you do not talk about tank club. He says that he is trying to win, but it is now 100% clear to the men in the locker room that we are tanking. Guys have called their agents and want out. They know they can't trust him.

If he loses the locker room, you have to at least consider firing him. I expect a lot of guys to get released next year as well; however, not everyone will be cut. Also, there is gonna be a lot of new guys coming in next season, and it would be devastating to have vets tell them that this team is a disaster.

I am with you with Grier. I would love to know what Ross sees in him. Honestly, it reminds me of Gase when everybody said he was a genius and the reputation just stuck. It feels like Grier is getting a reputation for being a great GM because people say he's a great GM.

We have one shot to do this right, and I am not sure about either of these guys. Flores may very well be a victim of circumstance.

It has been long rumored that Jim Harbaugh will eventually come back to the NFL, and it will be with the Dolphins. Michigan just barely squeaked out a win vs. Army. Call it a hunch, that after this disaster of a season is over, the job would be very enticing. Draft picks and cash. Harbaugh could bring in his own guy to be the GM. I would trust him much more than Grier and company using those picks.

That would be fantastic if it happened. I seriously doubt it will though in year 2 though given that Ross and Flores probably have some kind of understanding about how bad things might get this year. But if we still do poorly in most other areas other than QB in year 2, then it becomes a possibility in year 3. I would totally be on board with Harbaugh (if it's realistic). Nonetheless, I'm hoping this crap turns around in year 2.

I am all in on Harbs... would love Ross to back up the brinks truck and get him here.

I will say that there will be likely be many suitors to take over as GM/President/Coach if we secure the top pick in the draft... I mean that sort of capitol in a year where a potential generational talent at QB is coming out along with a clean slate is very attractive.

Ross and Harbaugh have a friendship dating back decades. He's said that he'd never try to poach someone from his Alma Mater, but if that person was leaving anyway then the job in Miami is his. This has been teased since Ross bought the Dolphins and the two remain close, so I'm sure it's a possibility anyway.

As far as the timing goes, Ross will hire him whenever he becomes available- if that was tomorrow, Flores would be out on his *** in a heartbeat. But (1) Harbaugh is in no rush to leave college ball and (2) he hasn't committed to Ross in any way, shape or form. So this is probably more of a fantasy than anything but who knows...maybe Ross is secretly an evil genius that had this in the works all along.

You’re exactly ONE game into their tenure together and knew they were rebuilding. I’m not sure how anyone can have a valid opinion good or bad. I’m reserving judgment until I see year 2 after reloading with a lot of draft picks.

This mostly. We can totally judge this season, but we need more than 1 game. This thread feels like whining for the sake of whining.

I don't know what's going on with him, but he has been straight up atrocious as a coach at UM. Absolutely not the same guy that was at Stanford and San Fran. He would need a reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally good explanation. Not sure if he got too cushy and full of himself or what, but I would not want anything to do with him currently.

Yeah, I'm hearing a lot of excitement for the future picks, which is understandable because who doesn't like 1st rounders especially with a chance to draft Tua or Fromm? But then I remember this isn't year 1 of a rebuild under Grier. This is his 3rd year. We're in this predicament because of his atrocious drafting. I'm firmly of the opinion you take QB until you have found "The" guy. Over and over, during Grier's stay with us, we've passed over several legit franchise QBs for one reason or another. And kudos for getting arguably the most talented in Rosen. But then he trades away his LT and WR? How is that giving you a chance to properly evaluate him? It's also pretty difficult if he's not playing or practicing with the #1s during the week. So, I'm excited about the upcoming picks but unless we get a competent G.M. I'm afraid it'll all be for naught. I'm legit worried Tua will pull an Eli because we're such a dumpster fire.

As for Flores, the team looked as unprepared as I've ever seen and he is quite possibly the worst public speaker I've seen be a HC in the NFL. He struggles to articulate even the most simple thoughts and he never says anything of substance. I already think the team is tuning him out and he's likely already lost the locker room after not fighting to keep Tunsil and Stills and then antagonizing Stills by playing JayZ. Leave it to our buffoon owner to give this guy a 5 year guaranteed contract. Who does that? Ross...that's who.

I regularly have watched Dolphins coach pressers on their website since Saban. This doesnt have anything to do with their performance on Sunday but I stopped watching Flores sometime in the Summer... I haven't checked out his post game presser from Sunday or anything today. I just don't enjoy listening to him talk. Again, has nothing to do with his coaching and I'd probably say the same thing about Bellichek if he didnt have the rings to back it up.

On the flip side, damn I miss watching Dan Campbell for those few weeks lol

Olay let's not bring Minkah down, he was pretty damn solid last year and one game doesnt change what he is. Let's see if he develops.

Wilkins I dont know yet, let's not judge his career on one game either.

    Flores though I dont like.

Why don’t you like Flores? Is it because he says uhm a lot (roll eyes), or is it because of something else like signing off on the Tunsil trade? You are giving Wilkins the benefit of the doubt because he’s new. Why not Flores?

I don't like his style of coaching personally. I dont think the "Tough Guy" style of coaching works if you dont have a long track record of success people respect.

Also right or wrong, his fault or not, I dont like the atmosphere that is being created by he and Grier.

Basically performance should be rewarded but I feel like that isnt happening with this team currently, in other words no incentive to perform because you arent safe from a cut/trade.

I still dont like the trade but I can live with it, it's done, but I just dont see why any players would buy into him. If he was my boss I feel like he'd be the guy you do impressions of when hes out of the room.

I'm not sure why everyone is freaking out to be honest.

The Ravens have been kicking our asses like this for the past few years when we've had much better teams. Hell, a good portion of our team wasn't even on the roster 2 weeks ago.

I'll still watch all 16 games and continue to give Flores the benefit of the doubt, even though I feel it's almost impossible for him not to lose the team unless we vastly improve.

I'm freaking out over Grier though because he's yet to have a "home run" pick in the first round and we're losing on purpose so he has a higher 1st round pick. Surely you can see the irony there, can't you? I just have no faith in him at all.

I feel like Wilkins will be one and Minkah will get there. Harris looks like a big bust at this point. If we hit on 2/3 1st rounders, then I’d say we’re doing pretty good. With the caveat that we need to see more before we can call both of them hits.

This is why I created a Grier evaluation thread..I’m not his fan..I’m just trying to hope that the personnel team assembled can come to better conclusions..

He hired Flores, and I think Flores is what we need, so I’m open to the relationship..

This franchise, this team, for decades has shown so many negative traits, I think in Flores, you have someone with a mission to make something right that hasn’t been right in so long, that you are nowseeing backlash on multiple levels, players, media.etc.

The front office and this coaching staff believes in this plan, so do I..we needed to blow up this whole thing, and in doing so, no one but whoever is in that room is gonna believe..but they shouldn’t care, just stick...to...the ..plan...and when incompetent decision makers want to give you more assets for a player than they are worth, you pounce, and when players are wanting more than their market worth, let them walk, and if players, don’t want to be a part of the future, it’s cool, I would look to trade you for assets..and when the media wants to act like they know better then the men in that room, shut them out and focus on the mission.

It’s still early for both but Minkah rated among the best slot CB’s in the NFL last year and can be used at several positions. I don’t think we’ve scratched the surface with him yet.

Wilkins is still extremely early but I like what few snaps I saw of him, his interviews and praise from coaches. A lot of things could go downhill but I think he’s gonna be a gamer.

Harbaugh should have been our coach already instead of this clown. We are going to waste another 2 or 3 years because of Ross's continued incompetence as an NFL owner. Grier has done absolutely nothing to suggest he is or will be a good GM. His drafting has been pretty terrible and this is the guy the idiot ross decided to put in charge of the "rebuild".

Minkah is a great slot corner, but slot corners are not usually first round picks. It is not that high a value position. I wanted us to draft derwin james over minkah. James is a much better safety than minkah and fit our need for a rangy free safety a lot better than minkah did.

I dont think Grier is here to make draft picks in 2020..

And if im Ross, i send a brinks truck to get Ozzie Newsome out of retirement to make those picks. Give him whatever executive title necessary to make it work.

For all you wanting Harbaugh, let me tell you that guy is as stubborn as any coach we have had and mediocre at his job.. In Michigan he always has top 5 recruitment every year, and yet his teams perform like they dont even deserve a bowl game.

He refuses quarterback changes even when Shea Patterson has fumbled the ball 7-8 times the last 6 quarters.. and Shea isn’t even that good at throwing the ball anyways, he has more talented quarterbacks behind Shea.. you guys want that circus here again? Okay..

We picked at 13th that year. Baltimore Ravens (at No. 6) and Tennessee Titans (at No. 8), both needed tackle help and passed on him and chose Ronnie Stanley and Jack Conklin, respectively. So 12 other teams didn't take him. But we did. It's so funny how successful picks never make it into the narrative.

    Compare this:

    To this:

Obviously there is more to HC than public speaking, but the ability to communicate is essential to leadership. Flores just comes off so timid. He looks and sounds like he's just happy to be there. He only speaks in generalities. In today's press conference, he didn't even mention anything about "winning", only about "improving". It's like he has already conceded that they will lose the game. WTF?

When Richard speaks, you feel it. He engages. He explains things in such a way that you know he knows wtf he's talking about. You feel something as a listener. That's a good communicator, and a huge part of leadership.

Grier had the choice to hire someone with clear leadership skills, and chose to go with the guy with the assistant coach mentality instead. I'm confident Richard will go on to be a great HC in this league while we will sink with Flores in the long run.

Like Wannstedt use of the word “standpoint”.

And how Gase always threw his players under the bus. By the way, a New York newspaper actually said the same thing monday:

Flores is a Buffoon... if you watch the SB highlights against the Rams you’ll notice its BB that’s engaging and coaching up the D, not Flores.

My working theory is that Flores had his headset unplugged and he was “miming” being the DC to save face. :)
