What is your own personal gaming Mount Rushmore?

I'm not asking what games you think are objectively the most important or best but rather, which four games are the most important/iconic for you personally.

It could be because the games were the best produced you've played, or because you have irreplaceable memories forged with them, or whatever else...

You might ask yourself, if I had to retcon my past and erase all gaming experiences from history, which 4 games would you keep...?

Regardless, what for you are your 4 Mount Rushmore games - and please comment and let us know why.

EDIT - You can list a series or franchise as one item (but if so try to also highlight one game as chief among the series).

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 - Sega Genesis: First game I loved and remember playing.

Super Mario Bros. 3 - NES: One of the first games I replayed over and over as a kid.

Tales Of Symphonia - Gamecube: The first RPG I truly fell in love with.

Monster Hunter World - PS4: One of the few newer games I've plunged hundreds of hours into since its release.

Dragon Warrior - first RPG I played. So much fun, blew my mind.

Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link - a game that blended RPG and action games. So weird to me that this game was not as liked. It was amazing and before it's time.

Civilization: Dammit Ghandi! Always with the nukes.

Master of Orion 2: a huge improvement over the first one. So many hours playing this game.

Madden 06 on PS2 - I mastered this game in high school. I won so much money off classmates, it was ridiculous.

Duck Hunt on Nintendo - Brings back so many fond memories of when I was a child. I can't tell you how much fun I had playing against my family back then.

Super Contra on Nintendo - My second favorite game all time from my childhood behind Duck Hunt.

Street Fighter 2: Turbo on Super Nintendo - My first introduction to gambling for money on video games, lol. I mastered this game back in the day.

Like Dupree, Dragon Warrior on the NES was the first RPG that I ever played. The fact that my best friend at the time got the game and I spent a summer watching him play inspired me to ask for it for my birthday that Autumn, which in turn set me on the path where I'm still loving RPGs more than 30 years later.

Consequently, the next RPG that I got into a year later was the first Final Fantasy, also on the NES. I've played every game in the series that's been a day one release in the US, and the series has had a bigger impact on my gaming life than any other.

A more recent series that I'm deeply into is Assassin's Creed. Like FF, I've played every main line game in the series since they started, spanning most of the last two generations of consoles. While the primary story of the games has unfortunately been lost, the last two entries have actually evolved into some of the best RPGs out there today, so its still a win.

And while I've never been much of a PC gamer, always preferring a console (Nintendo from 1988-1997, and Sony since), I've been playing the Civilization series for 24 years now. Given the style of the game, its safe to say that I've dumped more time into Civ games than any other. Steam says that I've played Civ 6 for 788 hours...and that's only since I loaded it onto the laptop I bought a year and a half ago, lol.

Honorable Mention: Madden, MLB The Show, Gran Turismo series, Uncharted series, Dragon Age series, Lego games, Super Mario games on the NES and SNES.

This is a tough topic. I'm going to go with:

Dragon Warrior: the first RPG designed for consoles, literally the grandfather of all JRPGs and many mechanics that made their way into CRPGs as well. I remember waking up early on school days to grind out a level or just wander around aimlessly. Later sequels are among my most favorite games of all time. There's no way this title can't be on my personal Mount Rushmore.

Quake 2: to me, the most important FPS of all time. This introduced me to multiplayer FPS gaming, to mods, to modern PC gaming (I bought a Diamond Voodoo2 card for this game), and I think it's still the greatest online multiplayer FPS ever. LMCTF2 and Weapons Factory are still played today.

Xenogears: it's not a great game, but it ****ed me up and I would stay up until 5 in the morning playing it because it was so whacked out. I hope it gets a remake or remaster of some time. The story it tells deserves a true ending.

Age of Empires 2: just barely edges out Total Annihilation as the best RTS of all time. So much fun it's still played to this day, and is getting a full remaster/remake in November. I've lost thousands of hours to this game. Black Forest 4v4 with friends is something I can play 50 years from now.

I've been struggling to come up with my final four, but so far, here's where I'm at:

The Secret of Monkey Island - My first real gaming was all done on a Commodore Amiga 500. Monkey Island is arguably the GOAT point and click adventure/franchise. Regardless, that world was the first one to pull me in and envelop me. The magic of the Caribbean, piracy, fantasy, the clever humour, the insults of course, even the romance, the art (for then) oh and the music, especially the music,... it all burned a place in my memory that will never be forgotten. I've continued to enjoy point and click adventures and have played many, but nothing has been as complete an experience as the one to be had somewhere in the Caribbean.

Halo - Contender for the greatest FPS ever? I remember being blown away by that first game. The action/gameplay - great combat, good weapon balance, challenging but not impossible, it felt good running around as Master Chief. The story - I really wanted to make my way through and see how things unfolded, along with memorable and fleshed out characters - anyone remember first encountering the flood? Such a change from everything before it, and man some of those sequences felt intense. Everything felt like quality, well thought out, well designed. And then, of course, there was the multi-player. For all the networked gaming I've done, Halo-nights played with friends are the times I most fondly remember. Heck, even my handle, Galant, came out of those evenings.

    Struggling to Decide/Remaining Short list
Tomb Raider/Prince of Persia - PoP pre-dates Tomb Raider, but these two stand out as similar in that they were/are great games for those who loved the exploration, those huge, atmospheric levels, puzzles to be solved, along with some great suspense and action. Both series saw ups and downs and were decent, but the last Tomb Raider reboots have been incredible whereas the Prince has been on hiatus now for a while (or converted in the Assassins Creed series if you like). Really good gaming and story-telling.

Turrican II - Another older Amiga game. A shoot-em-up with quite possible the greatest game soundtrack of all time (not kidding). A simple game in terms of mechanics, no challenging puzzles, but the level design and world was really good and blended perfectly with the music. It was truly a memorable game that I loved to go back to time and again. I'd love to see a really good modern reboot of the series. Nostalgia might be weighing in more heavily here, but Turrican II will always be a game I have very fond memories of.

    Starcraft: Broodwar
My number one favorite game of all time. I've probably spent close to 20,000 hours or more playing this game, I was a part of and followed the competitive scene for a long time.

Call of Duty 2 and CoD 4: Modern Warfare
The best two CoD games ever made and maybe even the best FPS games ever made in my opinion (Much better than Halo and Quake :tongue2:). I used to play in multiple competitive leagues like CAL and used travel around Florida after I graduated high school to play in tournaments.

    World of Warcraft
The single most popular game of all time, even if you never played it you cant deny that fact. Even today the relaunch of Classic WoW is being released. (and yes i'll be logging on at release to play it)

    Final Fantasy Series
Final Fantasy 8 was my first of the series and a staple to my early gaming career. Breathtaking graphics with every new release and hundreds of hours of entertainment and amazing story lines.

I didn't get my first PC until I was in my third year of college. But one of my best friends had one in HS, and I watched him play Monkey Island a few times back then. It was a really unique idea back in the day. Nothing like I'd ever seen on the Nintendo for sure.

    Final Fantasy (any)
    Super Mario (any)
    Legend of Zelda (any)
    Halo (any)

I think those 4 cover a good swath of genres, and I'm typically a fan of each entry within their respective franchises. I might come back and select a more personal Mt. Rushmore.

WrestleMania is an interesting one - what puts it as one of your top four?

Hours and hours put into it as a child. Corny I know but sometimes random memories stick out to me that make me enjoy something that was decent.

This will make me sound old, but-

    1) Trade Wars, one of the first online PC multiplayer games (mostly text, but a few really bad graphics too)

    2) EA NHL Hockey 1991 (can't remember the date, may have been 1990). Played it with my best friend daily on Playstation for years....we both got ridiculous good at it and I loved the challenge.

    3) Dark Age of Camelot- My introduction to modern PC MMORPGS. Made great friends, had some amazing memories, and we seriously pissed some other clans off with our noob zerg mentality. Best game ever in my opinion...we played for years.

    4) If I go arcade games, then definitely Street Fighter. If we stick to home consoles, probably Zelda or one of the early Final Fantasies.

I played Street Fighter II at the arcade a lot in the early 90s. The timing of when it was hugely popular matched up really well with the only extensive time I spent doing that.

Then of course it came out on the SNES, and I didn't have to spend time or money going to the arcade anymore. My friends and I were really into fighting games for a while there from about 1992-1997 or so. But after that, I basically lost all interest.
