That's because he has to give the media something without giving them anything, that kind of math is hard to do on-the-spot especially when you haven't done it often. I couldn't give two ****s how he answers to the media, it's the players that count. He's been much looser with the media in the OTA press conferences and it will probably only improve.

I don't really have an opinion on Flores one way or the other yet. We just haven't seen much. However, in regards to coaches talking to the media, there's certainly more than one way to do it. Flores might try to go the ultra-boring route, but I hope not. I certainly prefer a coach who talks to the media like a PR rep, or a good press secretary. Use a conversational tone, and when they ask a question that you don't want to answer, just say so. Something along the lines of, "I understand why you're asking that, but I think you understand that I can't give out very much information just yet. You guys will have to wait until the game on Sunday to find out". Those types of coaches are much more likable, IMO. Don't lie, don't stonewall, just say it's going to remain secret if it needs to. And not everything needs to.

He's going to go the ultra-boring route, so get ready. He's not going to talk scheme because it tips the hand to the to opponent, and you're likely not going to get anything beyond, "Needs to be more consistent.", and "He's showing improvement." with regard to player evaluations. Lastly, he's going to constantly defer to the injury report when discussing injuries. The most you'll probably get out of him is talking very generally about the opponent, and maybe some general opinions on player personalities.

You're probably right, and it's sad. Every coach weve hired from Saban on has been dull as watching grass grow. Hard to like a guy who doesnt give us more than that.

Gase seems to have focused on creating the splash plays at the expense of the hard work and grind in between.

Don’t get me wrong I like the splash plays and they turn games. But let’s get a base of solid football that gives us a chance of winning the game without the splash plays first. Then add the splash plays.

I'm personally content to never have the splash plays! I want a team that can execute the right plays time after time after time, and when you do that enough, some of the time the other team will have a mistake or just won't be good enough, and the regular plays will become long ones. And on defense, if you can pressure enough with the front four and cover tight enough in man to man, eventually the opposing QB will get desperate/frustrated enough, and will turn the ball over. Just do your job right and be patient.

I couldn't disagree more....those "splash plays" are what makes it exciting. New England was clearly the better team when we met them last season- are you upset we connected on a few bombs and won the game? Of course not. Did you cry over X-man's pick sixes or over all the picks we made in the end-zone? Heck no. That's the kind of stuff that makes a good team a great one. Heck, Brady won 2 super bowl rings that way after his team got demolished in the 1st half.

The only difference last year was that we were a bad team elevating to an average team. I'd still love to have 4 or 5 of those key injuries back to see how good they could have been.

    Zonk speaks..

The legendary fullback can’t help but see similarities between his Dolphins team at the time of Don Shula’s arrival in 1970 and the current group.

“It’s similar situations that are occurring right now,” Csonka said by phone from Wasilla. “The 1969-70 Dolphins were very comparable to what’s going on with the Dolphins right now — a total rebuild and realignment, new coach, new players, a great mixture of older successful players, no one knows who’s going to make it, who’s going to be their starter. They’re all jumping off the same starting line, just like we did in 1970 when Coach Shula came in.

“Now, I don’t mean to compare, exactly. Coach Shula’s credits at that time obviously were very, very strong. Flores has certainly earned a great reputation and valuable experience in New England”..

    X speaks

Says “Flores is changing the culture”

“He said he likes the coach’s commitment to discipline and conditioning, which supports the team’s belief they hired the right guyeven if this year plays out according to the low outside expectations.”

You would think after the Complete negligence of leadership from a coaching perspective since Shula, one would love even the scent of a real leader at coach.

Cause we all know how much Adam Gase, joe Philbin, Cam Cameron, Dave Wannsdant, Nick Sagan oozed it for us..

    Lol..such BS

Kind of agree with both points of view. Splash plays do make it exciting but would rather that they were the rarity because we have ground the other team into the dust & broken their will by executing a good game plan & sustained drives. When you can have numerous 10+ play drives with the odd splash play and you are putting points on the board, you will likely win more than you can lose.
On defense, I want to see as many Fins splash plays as possible - interceptions, sacks, fumble recoveries, I will take lots of these

Personally, if he gets the team playing hard, successful football, I couldn't care what he's like with the press. If he's Belicheck Pt 2 in the media room, if he delivers the results, I am happy with that

Bit of a worry that people are looking at his media work and wanting to be impressed - that means nothing on the practice field or game day. I am with you that I also couldn't give 2 hoots on how he speaks to the media

Flores may not be Eloquent in front of the media but he is Gracious and respectful to them, The beat writers have noting but respect for him at this point, citing how he looks you dead in the eye and talks to you like a man, uses their names..

To truly say that, you'd need to compare other QBs 3rd and long conversion rate to Tannehill's, not simply look at the overall 3rd down%. It seemed to me that we were often in 3rd and long more than other teams. Converting 3rd and 8 is far more difficult than 3rd and 2... Especially with a line that would give up quick pressure to 4 rushers.

I think Lombardi was the best ever. To even suggest Flores, at this point, could be the next Lombardi is extremely premature as far as I'm concerned.
I just want Flores to be the best Flores he can be, rather than equating him with any all-time greats, let alone the best ever.

If the next QB (Rosen or otherwise) is put into the same sitiations that RT was, over and over, then he'll suffer the same fate. Exactly.

I don’t agree. I believe a real qb. Would of been better at throwing the ball away. Reading the defense pre snap. I loved Tanny. But for me he proved to be incomplete as a qb. Brock actually looked better till he threw the ball. Remember Brock had open receivers. Just couldn’t get them the ball. A lot more to being a good qb than just throwing the ball? Rosen has been a qb his whole career. Tanny just became one before we drafted him.

Compared to last season, where we competed for a playoff spot for about 75% of the year, is this year's roster really all that gutted? You could say the QB position is upgraded, WR is equal, and RB could be. TE should be improved with last year's rookies having more experience, and the addition of a very good veteran blocker in Allen. Coaching at the position should be better too, going from the Rick Moranis look alike to George Godsey. OL is somewhat of a question mark, but if Reiter turns out to be a solid LG fairly early, and the other projected starters stay healthy, the OL overall could be better than the one we fielded Weeks 2-17. Again, coaching for the OL looks improved with hiring one of the better veteran OL coaches in the league in Pat Flaherty, along with the late hire of his assistant from his Giants days, Dave DeGuglielmo.
The one position on defense where there is a downgrade concern is DE/Edge defender. Mainly who is gonna rush the passer effectively? We've made comparisons to how the Pats defense applied pressure, and how it was very much about scheming, and well-timed and designed blitzes. Basically manufacturing it rather than relying on individual pure pass rush talent. If we are able to replicate the Pats approach, we could be at least as well off in this regard. The back 7 is basically the same as last season and should be in a defensive scheme that better suits their talents. There is a HUGE upgrade, IMO, going from the inept Matt Burke to Flores/Graham, and that should not be discounted. The sleeper among this new defensive staff is Josh Boyer. The defensive staff as a whole compared to last season's is like going from a solid D grade to at least a B, if not B+.

Also, I think the addition of Caldwell could be huge. He has a lot of experience. He is a no nonsense guy and he has a track record of being a solid QB coach. He's a great guy to have around, for Flores as well.

Last season was garbage, all around. Tannehill never really recovered from his knee injury, then he hurt his shoulder on top of that. So nearly all of my views of him are based upon how he played up until the game against the Cards when he knee was torn up. My point was basically that the OL was garbage for the most part in 2013-2016, combined with bad play calling from every OC we had during that point, putting the team into second and third and long at the worst rate in the league season after season. Thats a no win situation for any QB to be in. And I hope that we can move past that with the new regime.

Again. Looking only at Tannehill tells you nothing at all whatsoever. I you're actually interested in knowing if Tannehill was worse on third down, then you have to look at third and long for other QBs, not simply at overall 3rd down conversion %. This isn't about Tannehill, per se, but it is about making statements that aren't necessarily factual and without any proof provided.
