After adding a quarterback during draft weekend, the Dolphins took one off the depth chart Wednesday. The team announced they had waived three players, including quarterback Luke Falk. The Dolphins claimed Falk off waivers from the Jaguars in September, and he was inactive for four games before he went on IR with a wrist injury. After trading for Josh Rosen, the Dolphins are back to three quarterbacks, along with Ryan Fitzpatrick and Jake Rudock. The Dolphins also waived cornerback Dee Delaney and defensive end Jeremiah Valoaga.
Okay, that's just plain stupid. I hope Gase grabs Falk up in NY so the kid gets an actual shot to develop...every team so far has just jerked him around.
I thought Falk was going to win 5 super bowls in Miami? Lol. As I predicted he will never throw an NFL pass. I do feel bad for the guy who is probably his cousin that loves him so much on this forum. Sorry, man.
LOL, no relation...I just liked him because Adam Gase thought he was the best of the five from last year's class. I didn't expect him to develop but it would have been nice to see him throw a pass at least. LOL
Easy, Key. It's not stupid. How was he going to get a shot? We have Rosen, who the coaches are really going to put a lot of time and work in on coaching him up and getting him right. We have Fitz. Even Ruddock gas more experience and has to learn everything. It's kind of like the Ocam's Razor thing. If this kid was some kind of hidden gem, he probably would have shown to be by now. They did him a favor. Let him go and show his untapped genius somewhere else. It's not happening here and that doesn't bother me one bit. I'm more interested in seeing the crop we have now develop. JMO.
He is made of paper. Weak arm. Gase is a proven idiot. I figured they picked him up to use him a practice squad qb? As they don’t get hit?
I wouldn’t say Gase is a proven idiot. He’s a lot like Tannehill in that he has some strengths that tease you into believing he could be the one, but has flaws that he wn’t be able to overcome without a very talented roster to back him up
His player acquisition and evaluation was pretty suspect (read: terrible) overall, if you separate that from just coaching in general. That was definitely NOT a strength.
He was cut in training camp from his first team. Then he rides the bench with his second team (rightfully so), gets hurt, and never even gets evaluated. So were we dumb for signing him then or are we dumb for cutting him now? I can't see how it's the latter since this regime hasn't seen him take a single snap. We had all of training camp to cut him...that's what training camp is for. It just makes zero sense to cut a young QB today when teams need 3 or 4 anyway (including practice squad).
Damn, guess I'll own it: I'm the one who wrote a piece in 2018 comparing Falk to a young Drew Brees. His story might not be over, but it doesn't look good for the kid if he couldn't get a shot in training camp on a team with a fairly wide-open QB competition. Best of luck to him.
Clue #1 Clue #2 Neither. They tried. He must have not shown much in practices. Happens all the time. Clue #3 He was pretty much a PS player. Your expectations may have been set a bit too high. Clue #4. Ocam's, baby.
The phins cutting him probably has a lot to do with the new staff. Especially Jim Caldwell who has a long pedigree of developing QBs. It might be that Caldwell just doesn’t see him as a scheme fit, or it might be that Caldwell thinks he’s not good enough. The Falk and Rosen moves I believe were, if not dictated by, strongly influenced by Caldwell’s opinions.
From PFT: Luke Falk, who was waived by the Dolphins after Josh Rosen arrived, has been claimed off waivers by the Jets. Falk has a familiarity with Jets head coach Adam Gase, having spent time with him when Gase was coaching the Dolphins last year. Although Falk never got on the field with the Dolphins for a game, he did spend the first month of the season on the Dolphins’ active roster before going on injured reserve with a wrist injury. Falk entered the NFL last year as a sixth-round pick of the Titans but was cut at the end of the preseason. Falk started 42 games at Washington State and is the Pac-12’s all-time leader in passing yards, touchdowns and completion percentage.
