I say not to tank and I say Long Term Rebuild There has been lots of fans saying tank for Tua or the best QB in the draft in 2020. Tanking would mean all the staff, coaches and players be on board along with the owner. I have a hard time believing this can even happen on any team. What I do believe is happening is a Long Term Rebuild. What this means in my humble opinion is: A pass on a any record while they rebuild. The record isn't going to matter SO the staff and coaches will have time to build this thing from the ground up, inside out. This also means NO PRESSURE on trying to sign the high priced free agents for a temp fix and a run to just try and make the playoffs. This has been the Fins recipe for mediocrity year in and year out. It is about time they try to fix this and so far it seems they are well on their way. We already know there is a pass on 2019 so 0 and 16 would not matter and would probably be welcome to get the number #1 pick in the 2020 draft. This is part of why we're NOT seeing a big run at free agents this year. To me it is expected and I for one am happy to see it. They are sticking to what they have been preaching. The Devante Parker restructure deal is a bit confusing though. Unless my wishful thinking side is correct in that they did this deal to make DVP more trade-able. With all the nothing happening in FA we are also seeing the CAP getting fixed. I am anxious to see who else we trade/cut in the next few days. We know THill and Quinn are more than likely gone. What I am hoping for is we at least get a trade out of one of those guys to add draft picks. We need em. We are currently sitting at 21M free space on the CAP and could get to 66M with 5 cuts/trades. It will be interesting to say the least. What I would love to see in the 2019 draft is a whole lot of focus on the defense front 7 and the Oline. I mean I would not mind if that was all they drafted. While I don't think that will be the case I do believe it will be the focus. What I think the fans will get this year as far as record and team is much better play. A lot less of the stupid mistakes that just make us break remotes, TV's or pull our hair out. No more 1st and 20 or on D 1st and 5, less fumbles and less sacks on our QB. I want to seem better TEAM play, communication and camaraderie. I really am not expecting much as far as record and am just hoping to see the above. I do see the Dolphins playing better but winning less this year. I doubt we pick number 1 but am thinking around 10 in 2020 Draft. This will be plenty close enough to sell out and get the QB of the future for the Miami Dolphins. Tua, Fromm or Herbert. #FINSUP This is just my humble opinion.
Get a franchise QB. That's what the plan needs to be. Whatever it takes to do that. So if it's trade away talent for picks, let talent go for compensatory picks, whatever it is, you get that QB. I doubt they go for Murray this year. I think they aim for 2020 or 2021. Build talent at good value through draft and at a bargain.
Sorry, I still remember how good it felt not to go 0-16 back in 2007. Winning at least one game is important. Winning even 3 games still gets you the #1 pick most of the time.
Yeah...that season was horrible. I was 17 then so maybe I'd handle it better now but damn. Especially since we ended up with Jake Long, no offense to the man but we needed a QB, and had previously taken Ronnie Brown instead of Rodgers which hurt too for the same reason.
I agree and remember that too. But what I am saying is it will not matter to Ross. My thoughts are we will be picking between 10 and 15 and have to sell out to get to the top pick and get that "franchise" QB.
So players fighting for a contract are going to want to lay down and ruin their careers for a possibly change to draft a web that possibly will be decent in the NFL? Nothing is 100 certain and if I worked for a guy who purposely hampered us I’d lose respect and want to leave that team ASAP!
Tanking as it exists is basically a front-office level initiative that essentially depletes a roster of good but overpriced veterans. In the short term, it creates a talent vacuum which results in poor records. It will not be a shock to see us do something of this nature. It's not that Ross or Grier are telling Flores and the players "hey guys, go lose a lot of games" so much as it's just them paring down the roster. The players will never intentionally lose or play poorly. We just won't have a lot of experienced talent. It is likely that it will take a year or two in the bottom third of the league for us to rebuild and pull out. The key will be landing the right QB. If we land one who is good enough, that will shorten the rebuild in a big way. If we miss, it's likely that Grier and Flores don't make past years 3-4 and we start over again.
Going into the season I don't really care what our record is. I just care about the direction the team is headed. If we lose but Flores has them prepared and ready to fight, that's fine with me. Worst case is that we lose and Flores loses the team, or looks lost.
I don't care, I refuse to root for losses, but I think they will be one of the worst teams in the league all by themselves.
I will never embrace tanking unless the only other choice was Blake Bortles. Then I would be all for tanking. Otherwise, no....I think we should sign Teddy B or Tyrod. If not, then draft Drew Lock or move up for Murray. It's one or the other. We need a franchise QB. If we can't get one this year, then find a guy to bridge until we do. It's really that simple. We need a franchise QB, we need a franchise QB, we need.....If Grier or whoever doesn't like Murray or Lock....OK...fine.....draft smart, draft to solidify the O line, try and find a star at a different position, draft the BPA in each round. If we do draft Lock or move up for Murray then we're at least an exciting team that loses. If we're going to lose, i'm fine with it as long as we fight, as long as we have a hope at a few positions. As long as we have a guy that we can watch and say "damn, he's going to be good in a couple years." If we lose with Drew Lock or Kyler Murray looking as if they have a bright future in the league then i'd be fine with that. If we lose with Blake Bortles or Jake Ruddock i'm going to be angry, if we try and bridge the QB position with Taylor or Teddy B and we at the very least solidify the O line, i'll be interested for a few weeks until things go south (if they do at all). But to answer the question, no....I hate tanking, it's never a guarantee, i'm all for building the right way, being smart, and staying competitive.
It's not tanking. It's putting together a team that's not quite ready to win yet. The players and coaches will try hard to win but they won't have the talent to do so. That's what this season and next season are shaping up to be.
It's about finding out what your young players have to offer and what drive these low cost FA's still have to offer on the team. Building a solid foundation (whether that's culture, mentality, scheme, coaching). I don't like the idea of intentionally tanking for one of the QB's next year, as you never know what may happen (horrific injury, loss of form/focus) but look at the BPA in the important positions & plugging competent starters/back-ups into the line-up to compliment these.
Tyrod and Teddy would rather be backups than play for us....embrace the tank!!! I suggest we sign and start Nathan Peterman, the antihero Miami needs, get us that #1 pick Nathan
You know, if we really want to lose, he's a pretty solid option. The problem with finding the absolute worst QB out there, however, is that makes it difficult to evaluate the rest of the team. Got to aim for a spot where they aren't so atrocious as to crush the entire unit, but also not so good as to lead us to a winning record. Taylor I think would have hit that sweet spot. Bridgewater was more a shot at a guy who still has untapped ceiling. However, I think he is looking at Brees retiring in the next year or two.
End thread, end topic, just buy a billboard and put this on 95 so everyone can get a clue. Sticky the post.
Honestly, I think that's why I was so passionate about Gase- our guys fought hard under him and believed in the impossible (like the Miami Miracle). We won several games the past few years with inferior talent on the field, and I personally think that's all you can ask of a coach/team. However, the team did "lay down" in weeks 15 and 17, partially because they probably knew what was coming already (the "fire Gase" stuff was already at full steam by then). I genuinely hope that doesn't carry into this season once players realize we're just not good enough to compete AND we took this path on purpose. It seems like a very easy way to lose the locker room and I'm worried how it will turn out.
All I know is that we better win at least two games and that would be against the New Jersey Jerk Offs. It would so piss me off to lose to that little bug eyed douche.
Bingo. Spot on. That's exactly what we're doing here. Purging the roster of prior big contract mistakes, accumulating draft capital to build it the right way for success in the NFL. Build a roster of young, cheap talent, including a young top QB, then spend some cash when you're ready. This has become a necessary evil in the world of salary caps in sports. That's not tanking to me.
