Sam Madison looks like he may be cut/released today. The Giants have four guys that are almost locks to make the roster and Madison is possibly on the outs. I was wondering if you guys think we should/could bring him in? At the CB, we're thin and if an injury was to happen, it would be even worse. Madison could compete with Lehan or Goodman for the # 2 or nickel spot in the defense. Give him a small deal, one year, veterans minimum and if he does nothing, you let him go.
It looks very likely right now. They have their four corners; Dockery, Ross, Terrell Tomas and Webster. They like them all a lot and Madison looks like he's done with them. Madison's contract may be part of it as well. I don't know how much he makes but I'm sure he makes more than the first four.
Alen, I think that would be a great idea. Would cost us next to nothing, yet would bring a veteran prescence here. I don't know if Pasquiloni, Sparano or Parcells has a history with him, and if they might have someone else who does have one with them on their radar already. But its a great suggestion bro, at least from this fan's perspective.
Money talks, and if you are making a lot, its a noticible clanging on a strained cap. If that is a problem in Giantland, he is gone. No question about it.
Screw Sam Madison, loved him when he was with us, but it won't be beneficial to the team bringing him in now. If they release Sinorice Moss now. I think that is a player we should bring in as a 5th or 6th WR. JMHO Courtesy of PFT
Always liked Madison and especially rooted for his team. I would love to give him a min contract and he could be a nice situational corner. At worst, give him a chance to retire a Dolphin.
I was thinking the same thing about Moss, he has showed some moments of being good to very good and would give us another dynamic with he and Ginn on the field.
I would love for him to come in and be our nickle as long as he doesn't think he should be paid like a king.
I just don't think that this regime is looking for a Madison...I don't know that he's any better now than the guys we have....He's certainly lost a step or two...I just don't know that he'd really have any impact at all right now, unless someone is not as healthy as is being advertised...(Lehan)...
Madison is a smart player with a ton of experience but I just don't like what he brings to the table physically at this stage in his career. He was never a good tackler from the position and his speed is a liability. Combined with the fact that we look to be a 3-4 D playing alot of zone coverage and he was alwasys a man to man guy, I just can't see it happening.
Madison seems safe, Sammy Knight is the one on the outside looking in according to all the local news..
In the right situation he would be a great mentor on the field coach and his intelligence would make plays alone.
Really? I heard earlier this week that they hoped Knight could make some plays for them. Definitely interesting lol.
Not to hijack this thread, but there are rumors that they might be cutting Sinorice Moss. Is he worth a look? I remember his name from the draft. The nostalgia value would be nice, but I don't think he would fit in with the rest of the young players we have now.
I think anyone is worth a look to be honest. He had troubles holding on to the ball from what I heard. I don't know how much of that is true. Hopefully NJFINSFAN1 can elaborate on that. Also, I don't know if he makes the team if he comes here.
The Giants have three veteran defensive backs, Knight, Sam Madison and R.W. McQuarters, to handle backup roles. It may not be fiscally smart to keep all three, but Coughlin could hope to get by with three safeties to keep a sixth cornerback, leaving Knight on the outside. http://www.northjersey.com/sports/giants/Which_22_will_be_cut_from_Giants_roster.html They have also been saying the same thing on the radio. Phillips has played very well making Knight iffy to make the team.
Moss's problems are injuries, not dropping balls, he misses to much practice time and can't get on the field. Sinorice Moss and Brandon London are in contention for the sixth wide receiver spot, with Moss a potential candidate for a trade for either defensive line depth or a draft pick. The brash London has made a strong impression, but if he clears waivers could find a home on the practice squad for a second straight year. http://www.northjersey.com/sports/giants/Which_22_will_be_cut_from_Giants_roster.html
I knew injuries were his problem but I recall hearing him having trouble with his hands too. Guess that isn't the case lol. Thanks NJ.
All those bubble Giants made the team, at least for now. Madison, McQuarters and Moss... http://blogs.nfl.com/category/news/
I love to see former Dolphins who were good contributors to the team get a SB ring . I just dont see him fitting in a rebuilding team looking for youth to grow with the team. Hopefully the Giants will keep him around for another year .A player with his experience can be very helpful in the playoffs
Parcells never thought that much of Madison. I remember BP on his show was listing the top CB tandems back when we had Madison and Surtain he didn't include them. When asked about it he said that he wants his corners to support against the run and that they, particularly Madison didn't do that well enough. So if Madison becomes available it doesn't seem likely that he'd be on our radar.
Madison had 67 tackles last year with 59 being solo. His best ever but you're right, he does not fit zone coverage schemes, and until last year, was always one to shy away from contact. But man on man, with a good safety behind him, he is one of the best in the buisiness. He had an excellent game against Randy Moss in last years Super Bowl, and a very solid year all around.
