If you watched the Super Bowl you would think that Brian Flores was nothing more than a puppet of Bills, not once do I recall them giving him credit for the masterpiece called against the number 2 offense in the league. Well stories are now breaking and Brian is getting his credit! Let’s hope he can turn things around in Miami! https://sports.yahoo.com/patriots-d...-masterpiece-dolphins-ecstatic-072443869.html It would be a defining moment for Flores. But perhaps most importantly for Miami fans, it should be known as a game he called, not Belichick. Multiple Patriots players said so after the win Sunday night. And if that wasn’t enough, one personnel man very familiar with Flores and the Patriots even took the trouble to text as the game drew to a close: “[Flores] has called this entire game. I promise you.” If that isn’t enough for Miami fans who are wondering if they’re actually getting the man who was at the defensive controls Sunday, perhaps hearing from Belichick will put some minds at ease. Not only did Belichick assert that Flores called the game, he even called him the “defensive coordinator” at one point in his compliment, a big deal since Flores had never officially been given that coordinator title this past season.
So, you're saying he played a key role in the most boring Super Bowl ever? Joking aside, good to know he actually understands how to call a game on defense. I'd like to believe Belicheat is leaving soon and wants to have a solid coach in place within the division to challenge McDaniels -as part of his revenge for not being allowed to trade Brady. New England tanking without him would only enhance his legacy.
I didn't find this game boring in the least. I like defense. I've always said that, and even though @cbrad will disagree with me..lol...defense wins championships and that held true at least for last night. Flores called one hell of a game. He made the Rams offense look like the Dolphins offenses over the last decade. Brady played like crap, and even so their defense bailed them out. And the guy responsible for that is going to be the Dolphins new head coach....I'm excited.
I was really impressed. I think he will have more talent (but in entirely different positions) on the defensive side of the ball in Miami.
Like you, I also prefer a good defensive game and this didn't let us down. It wasn't that Brady played like crap and Goff played like crap...both defenses played phenomenally!! This was the epitome of Wade Philips versus Brian Flores...a defensive chess match. It was an incredible game. One thing though about the game that drive me nuts were the announcers. When the offense for the Patriots was on the field, it was Brady this and Brady that. When their defense was on the field, it was Belichick this and Belichick that. As the thread indicates, I thought it was Flores that was calling the defense, not Belichick. Either way, Flores earned his money last night and I am eager and excited to see defense become the cornerstone of our team. As I indicated in the other thread, it's going to be a few years of growing pains as the Dolphins are remolded, but if Flores did indeed learn the art of defense, if he does indeed possess that intangible skill of leadership as set forth in FM 22-100 (Military Leadership), then perhaps we can indeed see a return to glory days before I turn 55.
Knowing what we know about New England, was this defensive mastery? Or did they know every single Rams offensive signal? Calling defense isn't too hard when you know the play coming. Think controller peeking on Tecmo Bowl... Unless Flores is coming with his own Ernie Adams, I won't expect that type of defensive "mastery".
Both Brady and Goff played like crap. They both missed open WR's. Threw bad interceptions. Fumbled (Brady). Just plain threw bad balls all night. Brady looked old and Goff looked lost. If this was a 5 years younger Brady the Pats would have won handedly. I don't think any QB could have scored much on the Pats defense last night.
Brady and Goff did NOT play like crap. The defenses on BOTH teams played incredibly!!! Let's give some credit where credit is due. Brady and Goff didn't put up numbers like they normally do because they were facing in your face pressure all night long and great coverages downfield. Not a personal shot at you Dan, but it annoys me to no end when a great QB faces a great defense and that defense executes perfectly, the excuse is, "QB played like crap"...that takes away from the damn fine job done on the defensive side of the ball.
I think it was both. Clearly the defenses had the offenses' number (and defense was overall more important yesterday), but Brady didn't look as sharp as he normally does, even when he's faced good defenses. With the Rams I found it interesting how they couldn't adjust as the game went along. So I'd give the Patriots defense the credit early on, but I think you have to blame the Rams offense for not adjusting well.
Both defenses were lights out yesterday... took an incredible catch by Gronk to get to the red zone once..
During the 2nd half, I couldn't help but wonder how many points Tannehill and Gase would have dropped on NE in that exact situation. Of course, we'd have to keep the Ram's D in this scenario or it would never be a 3 point ballgame, but still...I kept thinking that RT would have found the endzone a few times in that 2nd half.
I've always felt that whenever we've been able to successfully pressure Brady, he folds like a cheap suit. I mean, he missed that one yard "toss" to the RB by half a yard in the 4th quarter...his whole game changes when he knows he's about to take a few hits. That's always been the key to beating the Pats and it amazes me that more teams don't blitz.
too bad he'll be our HC not DC. his play calling has 0 effect on what the dolphins defense does next year because he won't be calling the plays on defense here.
Was a great defensive football game. I enjoyed it immensely aside from the Pats actually winning the thing.
