Jim Caldwell is the QB coach and the assistant head coach. Robbie Leonard is probably the OLB or LB coach.

That makes it sound like Rizzi won't be back after all.

Crossman has been an NFL coach since 2003. He's been a ST coordinator with the Panthers, Lions and then Bills since 2007.

Hmmm. With this news I suppose Rizzi won't be back. I am kind of sad, really. I hope Crossman is as good as Rizzi at evaluating talent. I think he has done a reasonably good job at finding productive kickers and punters.

Crossman isn’t nearly as good as Rizzi this is a big downgrade for me even though I didn’t think Rizzi was the prom queen myself.

In Buffalo where he served the same role he was ranked 32nd (ugh)

And the prior years at Carolina he was ranked 10th, and 22nd the year prior

Stole this from twitter but my exact feeling right now.

Crossman was fired from the Bills. Godsey was the Lions QB coach and Karl Dorrell was the Jets WR coach. Three great organizations to get coordinators from. Does Grier know what he is doing? “

"Crossman was the Bills’ special teams coach since 2013 but was fired after last season. He previously was the special teams coach for Carolina and Detroit.

Godsey was the Patriots tight ends coach in 2012 and 2013, where he worked with Flores. He was the Houston Texans’ offensive coordinator in 2015 and 2016 and the Detroit Lions’ quarterback coach in 2018.

For Dorrell, it will be his second stint as the Dolphins’ receivers coach - a role he held from 2008 through 2010. He also was the Dolphins’ quarterbacks coach in 2011. Dorrell was the Jets wide receivers coach the past four seasons and previously was the head coach at UCLA from 2003 to 2007 (going 35-27) and offensive coordinator at Vanderbilt, Colorado and Washington."

Yeah like I said crossman was 32 out of 32 teams. Rizzi wasn’t the best but was better previous years than crossman ya been.

I just don’t like poaching coaches from **** teams and expecting great coaching in Miami!

The belief that drawing a positional coach from a bad team is on the face of it a bad decision is really a powerful dumb guy idea. Like, look at the ****ing unit and his history. It's not that hard.

Karl Dorrell for instance been responsible for developing a lot of late-round receivers who were productive very early(Brian Hartline, Davone Bess, Robbie Anderson, Quincy Enunwa), got veterans to play their best or near their best in bad QB situations(Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker). But no, he came from the Jets, he's bad.

And Grier isn't hiring the coaches either, it's Flores guys.

Not true. In the last 5 seasons, Rizzi was better than Crossman 2 times.

It wont matter next time though. If the team fires these guys in three years and wants to bring in a proven head coach or GM, they'll still have to go through the whole processor get in trouble.

Well, Miami had one of the best special teams in the league....so anyone would be a downgrade really. I don't see anyone stacking up to him and I'm guessing he'll end up in NY with Gase.

Every analytic website I look at has Miami's special teams rated in the bottom third of the league.

It wont matter next time though? No offense, but what are you even talking about? Next time? ....ok, but I'm talking about now. Ok, if the team fires them all at the same time, uh yeah, that would look bad, but first...stop being such a negative nelly, ok? ..we are about to become the next great dynasty :tt1:. Second, It's highly unlikely that they would fire them all at the same time. Third, it wouldn't be quite the same thing, but sure, go with it. Fourth, uhhhhh.

The further into the background Caldwell goes, the better. If he ends up just being a veteran set of eyes and ears that Flores can go to for advice, that's terrific.

There is a report that the Pats assistant QB coach is heading to Miami to be QB coach as well. Jerry Schupinski or something like that. Supposedly credited with Garrapolo's development.

I also like the idea of Capers as a defensive balance to Caldwell too. Sort of Grown ups in the room to make sure the young guys are going in the right direction, without having to work too hard themselves. Share their wisdom when needed.

I for one am very pleased with Flores bringing in the older experienced coaches with him. I think for setting the tone, and the extra guidance while he is getting his feet under him it will be invaluable.

Is it just me or is this a fairly impressive group of coaches that Flores has put together? Now if Dom Capers signs on I'll really be impressed!

Meanwhile Adam Gase is attempting to recreate the Bountygate scandal and the Bengals are trying to be under Philbin.

Still gotta bring it on Sunday and Flores has to show he can be a head coach and not just a decent coordinator, but I like the potential at least. For a few moments it seems we can be happy with something. Hopefully Grier has a solid draft and we make some nice offseason moves to have some optimism for next year for a team that may not perform well in the standings, but fights hard, plays cohesively, seems well coached and has some good young talent ready to cut loose.

It looks pretty good on paper so far. My worry is that so many of them come from one place, New England. That's not surprising given that Flores has spent his entire career there, but its still a risk. I want the team to create their own identity, and not try to replicate what they have up there.
