It is a completely different situation. They aren't hiring a GM, they agree hiring a person to run the football side of the team. Generally something the owner does

Ross seems to fear a full on rebuild. I don't know how you give Gase another year, while taking away the QB he seems determined to live or die by in Tanny.

Tannenbaum's specialty seems to be player acquisitions. Even in NY, he was known to make splashy moves.

But here is the thing with Tannenbaum, he makes the same mistake over and over again. One of the biggest things we need to improve on going forward is that we need to stop giving guys their last contract. It seems like every year, we are giving players their last contract, and oftentimes, it is a hefty one. Not only does he love the old, but he loves the injured. It appears like when the rest of the NFL are casting these guys off, we are bringing them in. He really gets beat up over the Suh deal which was absurdly overpaid, but at least Suh was a good player.

Look at some of the guys that we have brought in under Tannenbaum that were not cheap: Greg Jennings, Mario Williams, Lawrence Timmons, Jordan Cameron, Byron Maxwell, Julius Thomas, Robert Quinn, and Josh Sitton.

I'm honestly surprised that Amendola didn't finish the season on the IR with his concussion problems. It is the same mistake over and over again.

Now look at some of the contracts that he has given. Last time I checked, Andre Branch was ranked the 115th DE in the league. He is the 2nd highest cap number this year making $10 mil/yr.

Prior to Tannehill's restructuring, we essentially could have moved away from him free and clear this year, but now it is going to be a $13 mil cap hit. To put that in perspective, we could pay Teddy Bridgewater twice what he making now, and still have a million dollars left to spend. And we are in a situation where we could very likely pay Tannehill that much money NOT TO PLAY.

Now looking at these awful deals, we need to look at the opportunity cost. We could have spent that cap on some of our own younger, more reliable players. We botched the Landry deal completely. We should have extended him with one year left on his rookie deal, but instead, we waited until his contract was up and he was franchised. We totally lost leverage in that deal. We made the same mistake with JuWaan James. We are now in the same situation where we have our solid, young talent playing out the final year of his deal with all the leverage.

Every year, we are paying older, injured guys not to play instead of resigning our own talent when we have the leverage.

Okay, that makes complete sense. Nobody had posted that here and I doubt it's "general knowledge" across the fan base. TY!

I really think that for the foreseeable future, we need to stop signing players older than 26. It would be completely different if we were one guy away from the Super Bowl, but we are not there yet. We need to build a strong nucleus of younger players that we can count on having down the road. A lot of the aforementioned names we signed essentially knowing that we would need to replace them the following year.

Yeah.. as bad as we have it, I wouldn't compare ourselves to the Jets or Bills (especially Bills). They can have as much cap space as they want they're not going to spend it well. Dolphins management has been comparatively better than those two, and that's saying something!

    Also, to this quote:
    They will be soon!

We'll see dj. I think people who are jumping on the train after his last 2 games (or never jumped off) are making a mistake. Very impressive showings against Houston and GB, but I fully expect that to happen occasionally. I just don't think he's going to be a consistently accurate QB, and without the accuracy the rest of his game won't propel him to elite status.

btw.. I don't think we'll have to wait long to see who is right here. If Darnold is truly a great QB in the making there's no reason he can't keep playing like he did the last 2 games relatively frequently from here on out, so we should see a top 10 QB in Darnold next year. My prediction for next year: his completion percentage and INT% will be at best average, and his rating will be 11-20 rank range. And yes I fully expect a few great games from him in-between a bunch of average ones and a few clunkers too. And that's what I expect from him in years 3, 4, etc...

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see who's correct here. I think we'll know at latest by end of next season.

Im sorry but any coach who uses injuries as an excuse for his failures is no coach. Do you see Belechick failing with all the injuries the Pats have and no to mention dont even have a number one receiver. Good coaches overcome injuries, plain and simple.

I understand that removing tannehbaum and replacing him may help the front office contracts etc but how does that help the team win games on Sunday? We haven’t been injury riddled for 4 years straight, we have had horrible coaching across the board we’re a 500 team.

We need players of course which were screwed on with our upcoming cap next year so jettisoning key players will free up some cash but than you need better replacements. We don’t have enough cap to outplay the jets and buffalo or New England this year even after parting with Ryan, wake and others.

This is where coaching come in and I don’t believe Gase and his crew can get it done with less.

Ross needs to embrace a rebuild

Those are lofty expectations next year for the youngest qb to ever enter the NFL..keep that in mind CB..

Darnold can do things most qbs cannot, once the discipline gets ingrained you then get the final result, I had him becoming a great one predraft..

Folks thought the same about Mahomes predraft, they tried to tell me he wasn’t a first rounder, too undisciplined, air raid system qb, turnover prone, weird release, I heard it all, what they forgot was the pure natural ability, it was special, so hi level none of those other things should of ever got in the way.. once a skillset that has that kind of special Qb talent, gets disciplined, and familiar with NFL defensive concepts, and the work ethic checks out. watch out, you will get a superstar..

With both it’s all about vision and pure position specific talent..
