So according to an article in the Miami’s herald it looks like Mike Tannbaum will let go before the New Years. They went on to state that Ross is leaning heavily on keeping Gase next year. Gase went on to elude that injuries were the cause of the bad season once again. While this is somewhat true every nfl team has injuries and even when those player were back in our game plan and adjustments sucked. Removing tannenbaum doesn’t fix the coaching which is the biggest issue we have. If Gase is kept Ross needs to force new DC and a real OC coordinator which is unfair to Gase but he hasn’t proven he can do it all. Ross get your head out your ace and fix all the issues we’re tired of 8-8 9-7 1 and done franchises!!
I actually dont care personally whether we fire Gase. However, I REALLY hope we bring in someone to call plays as well as a new DC. Also most of our important injuries haven't come back....our offensive line and WR core are entirely depleted and our TE are non-existant rookies which is generally how it goes at the position. That said, if I were to keep Gase I'd make him interview again. Make him show what he perceives the issues to be and discuss his plan to fix them. If he responded "injuries" I'd say goodbye.
Question- can anyone tell me SPECIFICALLY why Tannenbaum should be fired? We keep getting these threads about firing management and I've yet to hear a single reason why. You don't fire people on guesses and speculation...so I'm just curious what folks THINK Tannenbaum did that's so horrifying. Or are we just firing him because the team is 7-8 and the owner should throw temper tantrums like our fans?
My question is more this. If Gase is kept because of injuries why doesn't Tannenbaum get that same excuse? It's not like it impacts him any more or less. My only guess would be thinking the roster was poorly built depth wise to deal with key injuries.
Yeah, we can definitely blame Tannenbaum for the quality of our backup linemen (both sides of the ball) and cornerbacks. But we can also blame Gase for hiring Cutler, Falk and Osweiller...we know those were his calls. Or if it wasn't a "talent issue", then we need to talk about coordinators and position coaches who didn't deliver as expected. As I said in another thread, I think we would have been fine replacing one or two key pieces and I'm not sure it's even logical to expect the entire 2nd string line to fill in for starters at the same time. That's why we need more information before we can even have an opinion- where did the failure actually occur?
Umm.. when your team loses all kinds of key players, like Suh, Landry, Pouncey, etc.. sometimes after paying them massive sums of money putting us in worse cap situations than another GM (sorry, "Executive Vice President!") likely would, and doesn't replace them with other key players, that stands out. The team not performing well also means someone at the top has to go, even if it's symbolic. Also, Tannenbaum is the guy who thought Tannehill was our answer at QB. Of course, this is the same guy who thought Mark Sanchez was the answer lol. So if Tannehill isn't the answer (duh!) some of that blame rests with Tannenbaum. Good riddance!
Check out Matthew Canatta on Twitter. I just did and if some of what I am reading is true it is eye opening. I had no idea it was so bad.
Tannenbaum also plays the role of football adviser to Ross. He played that role for Ross the moment he was fired by the Jets. So, he's much more to Ross than simply Pres. of Football Operations or whatever. If Ross is going so far as to fire his consigliere then there must have been some major tension between the two this season. Over what, who knows.
I bet Tannenbaum, Grier and Gase have vastly different views on how to build the roster. That means they probably made different predictions about what would likely happen if the team did X, Y or Z. Of course, no one has total control so you get enough chances to see who was right about some crucial decisions, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if a bunch of Tannenbaum's predictions turned out wrong. All a guess.. but usually that's what happens with "advisers" who get key things wrong.
I actually don't think Tannenbaum has done a bad job for us even though he was horrible with the Jets. Perhaps, if Tannenbaum really does get let go, that means that Grier was the one making the good moves and Tannenbaum making the bad ones.
"Reports" are that Ross thinks highly of Grier, and apparently is willing to buy the injury excuse from Gase, which leaves TBaum as the odd man out. Two bad seasons in a row and someone needs to be held accountable. Beyond that, it's probably friction between the big 3 above, and/or behind the scenes stuff. Regardless, give THill his walking papers too please. See if Teddy can with with Gase or just roll with whatever. Move on. With Herbert going back to school, 2020 draft class for QB is getting more stacked.
We paid Suh massive amounts of money...but you and I both knew that was a fool's errand since no one player can make that much of an impact on a defense. Was it Tannenbaum that signed him though? (I'm asking....I can't remember) I generally agree with you though; we haven't had defensive pressure all year and we've struggled with stopping the run. I personally think that's talent AND coaching but yeah....that goes to the GM for not making changes sooner (or at all). For your 2nd part though, did Tannenbaum think Tannehill was the man? Or did Ross only hire people who would say RT is the man? I'm not sure if we know that. To me, Ross needs to own that part though because it's his own judgement that created the pro-RT culture within our team. And that's exactly why I asked....do you trust Ross to choose another coach/GM? What if he only hires people who think Ozweiller is a top 10 QB?
I haven't looked yet....I was just curious if any of the people screaming for people to be fired did any research. I'll definitely look later this evening though!
Yup.. "Mike Tannenbaum puts imprint on Dolphins as Ndamukong Suh signs": https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nfl/miami-dolphins/article13509797.html Yup again: https://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-dolphins/83044095-132.html I don't trust Ross at all. I'll trust him when he builds a consistent winner. Right now, of the 2 G's and 2 T's (Gase, Grier, Tannenbaum, Tannehill), the only one I'd be fine with is Grier who I think hasn't done a bad job.
Then that brings me to the most important question of all- what are the odds that Ross hires a GM better than Tannenbaum? It sounds like RT and Gase are staying if we have a decent showing this Sunday, so we'll save them for next week's debate. =)
Some people are speculating Grier will be the GM with no direct replacement for Tannenbaum. That wouldn't be bad IMO.
We already know how this story ends ...... The guy replacing Tannenbaum will eventually want his own guy - so this is just a big time waster barring an unlikely miracle.
I like it because I believe successful business happens when everyone has a very clear defined role with minimal crossover. Its why I keep asking for us to hire an OC as well. Gase might be much better off focusing on his responsibilities as a HC more.
The Dolphins do everything by half measure. They haven't learned that successful organizations have one vision from the owner to the guy mopping the floors. If it is time to fire Tannehill and Tannenbaum, then get rid of Gase and Grier. One fell swoop. Hire one man to run the organization, let him put his people in place. That is the only way. Anything else is rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Worse than accomplishing nothing, you are wasting valuable time. Get it right!
I would also like to cite the 2015 and 2017 drafts as evidence against Tannenbaum. The 2016 was a homerun but the 2017 is almost a complete bust and the 2015 draft yielded us a slot corner and a 4th round draft pick.
It's hard to say Harris, McMillian, Tank, Godchaux and Taylor are all bad picks...especially when 4 of them are starting and the fifth is a solely missed rotational player. Asiata is the only one in the first six rounds not showing potential.
I just wonder how much of the draft is Tannenbaum. There are multiple reports saying Grier runs the draft, while Tannenbaum seems to be more involved in getting (or not getting) players to come to Miami. We also heard something similar in 2015 with Hickey having final say on draft picks. So I'd first like to know more about the power structure before pinning draft busts on Tannenbaum.
And with all their injuries last year on their offensive line they still won the ring. All the injuries this year and they are still a game away from the playoffs.
Gase cant be the head coach and offensive coordinator. He needs to delegate playcalling to a real OC, because he clearly cant call his plays. His offensive numbers are offensive. and he needs to get someone at DC.
Ross is too much of a Cuck to force Gase to do anything it seems. Gase will be set up to fail next season cause he doesn't have a QB, and too many holes to adequately fill in one off season. Will that be the excuse next year so he can come back in 2020? It's gonna be so hard to watch another year of Gase's offense Idc who the QB is. I wanted this guy fired last offseason. Gase haunts me like Wannystadt did. We keep bum coaches too long. I know we're desperate for one too pan out but you can't force it. Do a better job in your selection process. Maybe next time don't hire a 3-13 OC to HC your team... Lol Stephen Loss is a joke. He makes me want Huizenga back.
When our offensive line was blocking well we didn't really have a QB problem. To me the issue isn't that we don't have a QB. The issue is we want our QB to carry the offense when it breaks down and that isn't his style at all. He will never be an elite QB in that aspect, never. So if we are stuck with Tanny another year Id do EVERYTHING possible to protect him.
Thanks for posting that Galant. (Those were the tweets I was talking about, Key.) It is interesting that CK said that not everyone is safe. I thought for sure Grier and Gase would be returning. I guess we will see...
That’s fair but at the same time the only thing more awful than our offense was our defense. Starting on this team doesn’t tell me anything about the quality of those players and what it actually means to be starting.
Well, you saw what happened this past week when Kiko and Howard were both out at the same time- the D fell to pieces and we couldn't stop anything. It's tough starting that much youth but I think we'll be better for it in the long run. We really need a defensive coordinator that can bring everything together.
Yeah, he should have been canned just for that Bridgewater decision. Seriously. I think the Phins were looking a gift horse in the mouth right there and at that price? Pssh! Forget about it.
I agree- but look how we started the season with all 11 starters and rotational players on defense. We were the top D by a very wide margin thanks to turnovers, run stuffing and goal line D. All five of that 2016 class played a part in that.
You sure? This is how we ended up with Hickey, Ross finds a scapegoat and forces him out but deems one or two guys as safe and that decision dictates the parameters of the search for the new guy. Grier is safe so we hear Paton’s name as a potential candidate to replace Tannenbaum...why? Because presumably he wouldn’t force Grier out considering they worked together for 6 years. We won’t be in the running for the better candidates because they’ll want power Ross will refuse to give them. It would be a lot easier if Ross just fired everyone, none of them deserve to be back.
