It's too early to call Mayfield a franchise QB, but he's certainly looking like he has a bright future in the pros. Browns hit a home run with him in my opinion. He's what Johnny Manziel was supposed to be and i'm glad it's working out for them so far. Yes....They're 3-6 but flip those overtime losses that were basically 50/50 up until the end along with the tie with Pittsburgh and they are 6-3. Yes....the Chiefs and the Chargers blew them out, but we are getting blown out on a weekly basis compared to them. Any time we have won a game this year it has been uglier than Brooke Hogan. Titans was an atrocious game, both Jet games were colossal turds, the Oakland game ugly, the Bears game was exciting and yes we won, but it had it's ugly run as well. Other than that we've been housed by New England, Curb stomped by the Bengals in what was probably the most bizarre game I have ever witnessed, the Lions steamrolled us with like 3,983 yards rushing in one game, the Texans dropped bombs on us, and then the Packers **** on us last week. We win ugly, and we lose ugly. The Browns are competitive and extremely young and more importantly (despite them still losing games) they are entertaining, and that.... is credited to Baker Mayfield. I can't wait for next season when Tyrod Taylor is our starting QB.

What is frustrating to me is I think our team lacks vision. They keep doing the same things over and over again, with the same results. I would like to see them on the cutting edge for a change.

Qb Seeing the field in big picture mode is the vision a qb needs to reach hi levels of play, if they compartmentalize the field they and we, are fooked.

How long will you use that excuse. With you people it's always something. You are never okay to judge the Fins on W/L. Always some extenuating circumstances that seem to not affect other teams. This guy was hurt...His blocker was hurt...He just returned from injury...He was throwing to new WRs...His TE sucked...the playcalling was bad...the ref hosed us...on and on and on.

Hate to bring up Orwell on a football board but in "1984" he said, "the act of telling the truth is revolutionary ". My bottom line is a clear and obvious fact-- "the Fins aren't very good (for many reasons).

Here, AND ONLY HERE is that controversial. Other Fin fans, friends, family, people I see out watching games...They agree. Only here is that obvious reality met with derision. Maybe is internet hubris, online badasses, whatever.

But the fact remains to say the Fins dont suck, you have follow that with posts like you see here from the Excuse Makers...Steelers, Chiefs, Chargers, Pats, Texans, Saints, Rams, Panthers, Vikings Bears...they can say their team is good...and leave it. Not us. Not here.

I must be irrational. I must be dwelling on negative. I must be stupid...otherwise, I'd be smart enough to use all of the convenient and often used excuses.

I just don't understand how people defend anything this organization does. Its a complete failure from top to bottom.
Here you go the last playoff wins for each of these teams.Only 4 teams in the entire Nfl have been worse than us and it will only continue because we have no direction.

You're being completely irrational. Who is saying that the Dolphins don't suck? The issue people have with you is where you lay blame and how you think it should be fixed.

Yet, when it comes to say, the Browns, you make all sorts of "excuses" to try to prove that they don't suck

Maybe go write on their message board?

First off, the Fins have a better record than 17 other teams in the league....plus 5 others are tied with us at 5 wins. That leaves 10 total teams with a better record than the Miami Dolphins today. If the season ended today, right now, we're in the playoffs as the #5 or 6 seed.

Second, define "sucks". The team is definitely struggling right now, despite being a current playoff team missing over 30% of their roster. Not a single person here has debated that- it's not a good team with what we have to play with. But we "suck"? I think 22 other teams would disagree with you on that one.

Third, define "fan". To me, someone that can only say, "They're great" or "they suck" doesn't qualify, because they don't know enough about football or the Dolphins to have an opinion. Maybe you're referring to the media that said we're the worst team in the league and will win 3 games tops for the year. Guess what? Those people clearly suck at their jobs. And what I mean by "suck" is that they don't have a clue what they're talking about.

I'll mention it again, we're tied with or ahead of 22 other teams in the NFL. You said you want this to be solely about wins and losses...there ya go. We're the 10th BEST TEAM in the league while playing 2nd stringers on offense. By your definition, we don't suck.....we have to be one of the best teams in the league.

Of course, what I'm saying here is not true either....because I'm using noob logic of a typical bystander that calls themselves a "fan". It's not only about wins and losses in the NFL. I do think it's funny though that you're only point (look at our wins and losses for proof) shows that we're a pretty good football team.

Lol...perhaps you are just browsing, or not fully paying attention. If we were a young team (rookie QB, rookie RB, young on D) and being close in most of the games, I'd be ok. But Miami isnt a young team. Cleveland needs are clear...they need an Alpha WR and a LT. Once they get that, they're going to be really good. What does Miami need? QB. Interior OL. DE. DT. LB. CB. And a new coaching staff. See the difference? See why there is plenty of reason for optimism in Cleveland and not so much in Miami?

    ^^^THIS^^^

You know, no one here is denying the Dolphins are struggling and struggling badly. I've made the injury point before. We've been plagued by them and yet we are still in the Wild Card hunt fielding a team with 2nd stringers. Hell, the mighty Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers whom some of you have developed a Viagra induced erection for have a worse record than the Dolphins and yet...

KeyFin is absolutely correct when he says no one is denying the Dolphins have problems but we as a team don't "suck". We're SCREWED by injuries, but for Christ's sake, suck?

Take the '84 Dolphins...pull Marino...pull Clayton...pull Duper...pull Stephenson...pull Baumhower...pull Bokamper...pull Blackwood, either one of them...what happens to that 14-2 season? Would the Dolphins "suck" or just be cursed by injuries?

The first three games of the season the Dolphins, as a team, played very well going undefeated. Even then, folks were already bashing the team. Those same first three games of the season, the mighty New England Patriots and the disputed "goat" Tom Brady start with a 1-2 record having defeated the Texans on opening day only to lose two games in a row to Jacksonville and Detroit. Here with a healthy squad we were undefeated and folks were still touting how we, alone atop the AFC East still "sucked".

I want each of you to look at yourselves....your own employment. If you are the manager or leader of your section, take yourself out...take your right hand man out...then take out 30% of the best workers you have out and replace them all with "qualified" yet unproven replacements. How good is your company going to be?

    Do YOU suck?

I agree with you here, Key. However, I can also see the other side of things too and understand why people are frustrated. I am at the point, as a Dolphin fan, where I just want to see progress. I realize it's kind of hard though when our starting QB has been injured the last two years, and this year the injury bug has bit us hard. How can we build any continuity? IMO, considering who we have lost, I think Gase has done a great job holding things together. As you said, our record isn't that bad, and if we can get things rolling out of the break then who knows what can happen. We might not be able to overcome the injuries, but I hope to see a guy or two emerge so that we can see a sparkle here and there to carry us over to next year.

Exactly. I dont care about excuses any longer. Draft and sign better players...condition them better...whatever it takes. But, Tannehill can't even use that excuse. against NE, the biggest game for this franchise in forever, he was Cleo Lemon bad. That game showed me all I needed to see He wasn't injured, he wasn't missing WRs, he wasn't missing blockers...he just stunk up the place. Badly. He's crap.

When was the last time the Patriots lost THREE games in a row? There was no way...NO WAY we were going to win against the Patriots...not to mention the last time the Dolphins defeated the Patriots in Foxborough was September 2008.

And just another little tidbit...since the drafting of Tannehill...he's undefeated against the Patriots IN Miami.

Don't get me wrong, I'm just as frustrated- none of us want to see this. But that doesn't mean to throw childish temper tantrums while ignoring what's actually happening either. To fix the problems, you have to go a little deeper than "They suck, the team sucks, everyone sucks. Fire everyone."

Sorry common sense was too much for you to deal with- it must sting that this "sucky team" is tied or ahead of 22 others.

Welcome to being ignored...I highly suggest everyone else do the same. The only way to beat trolls is to ignore them (or wait until their tiny minds self-destruct in anger and they get banned).

This might be the most ridiculous thing I've ever read. Football isn't like basketball. There is almost no difference in age for teams. I mean the difference between the youngest and oldest teams is two years. Not five, not four but two measly years. All 32 teams are within two years of each other. Football is the one sport that doesn't have old and young teams

Yeah I am just kind of burned out and past really caring until this team actually makes it worthwhile. If they keep Gase I will hope he has a good year 4 and we go on to great things. But do I feel the need to expend energy defending him? No. He just has not been very good - I look at his tenure and there really isn't much I can point to and say "oh hell yeah THIS is our guy!" I neither completely discount injuries, nor do I use them as a "free pass" either. No, I didn't really expect great things once we started bleeding people ... but at the same time, we got absolutely thrashed while healthy by NE in a game that was going to define our season either way. We have been absolutely blown out in multiple games. We couldn't show up or compete at home against the ****ing Detroit Lions. We basically are the Detroit Lions at this point but with a ****tier QB. We cannot stop getting absolutely smoked on national TV. Yeah RIGHT NOW we have an ok record. We also have racked up Ws against several teams that are absolutely garbage.

The only word I can conjure up for Gase is meh. Just absolutely meh.

That's an indictment on our coach, QB and team then. The road to success starts with us beating them. It also doesn't help that the game wasn't even close. To be frank, they put us in our place, and I see no reason why Gase or Tannehill are the people to climb out oft that place.

You are misrepresenting his argument here. Is there a significant age difference between Baker Mayfield and Ryan Tannehill? Yes. Should more be expected out of the latter than the former at this moment (injuries aside)? Yes. Is it easier to excuse mistakes and poor play for Baker than it is for Tannehill due to the youth of the former? Yes.

Of course when you have a team of 50+ people the average of the entire team won't be significantly different, but that wasn't the argument. Nobody really cares about how old or young the third string is.

I hear ya. If we can stay relatively healthy (especially whoever we have at QB) then next year we will have an idea of how good he can be as HC. Four years is plenty of time for our guys to really know what they are doing, so really then there should be no excuses. We either execute at a high level or we don't. It stinks that we will have to wait, but that's the luck we have been having lately. Until then, I hope we change some things up during the bye. I see the Jaguars have been using a FB and have run the ball all over the Steeler the 1st half. That's the kind of stuff I hope we start doing. I want to see vision and creativity from Gase to get our offense really going. I understand that is asking a lot with Osweiler because he probably isn't going to be able to beat you deep, but you get the idea.

No. He specifically said QB, RB and D. I used the Mayfield vs. THill example to illustrate how it's valid to focus on a certain core while ignoring the team as a whole because again ... wtf cares about how old your bench warmers are?

If RB is part of that argument (and DE), then you're pegging our two oldest players and skewing the results. Players aren't supposed to run as hard as Frank Gore at 35 years old. I just can't see how that counts against us when he's more productive than the average 23 year old on other teams.

I think you are coming in halfway through here. The original argument from Redwine (whom you may or may not have blocked) was that he would be feeling much better if we weren't getting blown out and if we had a "young team" - specifically mentioning QB/RB and defense. The counter from Adam was that in the NFL there is not a big variance in whole team age, and that you don't really see "young" or "old" very much and so it is a dumb argument. I get his point, but it missed the idea that certain positions having youth - especially QB - may lend themselves to giving a fanbase more hope for the future than trotting out Ryan Tannehill again next year. The Browns suck, but the fanbase can be excited by a young core of guys like Baker on offense and Myles Garrett on D. They can see progress being made - even with their coaching staff in turmoil they have 3 more wins than they did last year and have played several other games close.

I think we have some interesting and good youth on D personally. Xavien is excellent and I think the LBs are playing better overall. Minkah is going to be excellent. But the DL/DE positions are pretty big questions. Harris has definitely not taken the leap we hoped. Wake and Quinn are not young. As for Gore, he has given us a lot this year and has been better than most probably could have expected. But again, are we excited for Frank Gore at 36 next year? Personally, if he and Drake are still platooning with Ballage behind I'd be OK, but we aren't talking the next Alvin Kamara, Kareem Hunt or Saquan Barkley here.

Frankly, it's probably about to devolve back into playing the "does Gase get a second pass for injuries or not" game if people keep posting. :)

He does. You just don't like them and feel you could do better.

The most important intangible to me is a draftees maturity. Many of the top picks don't seem to have it, while many of the lower draft picks do. I'm sure it has something to do with ego. This is a tough nut to crack for all NFL teams. Look at all the high draft choices the Browns have had and look at their results. Compare that to, lets say, the Patriots who don't usually get as many high draft picks. How do you feel about the results of that kind of comparison.

It seems to me that if you can get more middle and late round draft picks for a few high round draft picks, the odds are in your favor but this has to be a continuing process in order to see the effect of a stready stream of solid players as opposed to an intermittent stream of good players who then have to carry the load for the fewer solid players that their team could get.

30 isn't old for a QB. It's just old if he sucks. Rt sucks. So, old or not, he needs to be replaced. You do agree that QB is the most important position, yes? And if hes not avail, or is avail and is horrible, it's bad. RT is bad.

I wouldn't say RT sucks, but I wouldn't say he is great either. When everyone was healthy, we were competitive. Not earth shattering, but we could win some games if the defense held and we were able to get a turnover or two. That's probably true for a lot of teams and their QB. I don't place the blame on RT. He is what he is. However, I do think Gase and our FO failed to realize what they have, or I should say don't have in RT. They should have been looking to upgrade the QB position a long, long, time ago.

What were you expecting? You have receivers who aren't creating separation, and a defense that crumbles in any sort of crucial situation.

Like I said somewhere, I think people expect Tannehill to come out and throw for 400 yards and 7 TDS, and when he doesn't, it's evidence that he sucks.

I have no issue with going after a better QB...but who is that QB?

If you didn't have expectations for Tannehill, then what are you complaining about? What would have been successful numbers, in your opinion, for Tannehill?

Or were you only answering my question about who to replace Tannehill with?

unless we trade for someone there's really no one to replace him with, he would def need to change his salary IMO to keep him. other wise we can get a cheaper options at the same outcomes. Def no one in the draft the wows me
