Yeah, a big guy in the middle to stop all those long runs up the middle would be nice. However, getting away from the wide-9 would also help.
We can't draft to keep guys away from another team in the division though. Remember the arguments some made that taking Pat White kept him from the Pats? Like they were going to pull Brady to put White in for the Wildcat? Total waste of a second rounder.

Remember when 2005 was a weak year for QBs? The top prospect, Alex Smith went at #1, but luckily Miami grabbed a RB in Ronnie Brown at #2. There was only one other QB taken in the first round that year, I wonder what happened to that guy? It was weak year for QBs so he is probably out of the league, right?

Okay, my point is: You just don't know. If you have a guy that looks promising, you have to swing for the fences, even if most every other team is willing to pass him up. The odds are not good even in the first round, but they are single digit in the later rounds. You have to hit on 6 top picks to build a great team around an average QB, or you can spend those finding a great QB who will carry an average team and if you manage to give him a good team for a couple years, you get to compete for Super Bowls.

One more thought: If you really don't like any of the QBs in 2019, trade away your first rounder for a second rounder and a first in 2020. Stock up to grab the QB you want then. Only a stable front office, not fighting for their jobs, would make moves like this though.

You’re right. Crappy organizations will waste top tier picks. Just look at our 2013 draft, where we traded away to make that our draft and then completely whiffed. My point is I have no confidence in this organization anymore.

Too early to tell. Look at RG III, first year in the league everyone thought he was the greatest thing since sliced bread.

my number 1 rule for first round picks is you can't bust. I can't draft a QB in the 1st unless I'm sure he won't bust. Later rounds I can take a flyer. At this point drafting Charles Harris hurt us. It wasnt a neutral pick. It was a negative. Had we gotten it right we would have had an additional impact player in our starting lineup whetjer DE or some other position. Missing on linebacker Bolling in tje 5th or 6th didnt hurt us because you dont count on them impacting the team though its a nice bonus if they do. To me you use the first three rounds as building blocks and the last four as lottery picks. If you consistently hit on your first three picks and then once in a while get a bonus with a late pick youll grkw your team quickly. Miss alot with the early picks and you will tread water or sink.

Also there is an advantage when teams are playoff caliber they can take flyers with late first rounders on QBs like the Dolphins did with Marino or the Packers did with Rodgers. It won't kill you to bust if you are a perennial playoffoff team and you miss on a pick once in a while especially one that is way back

Tannehill to get healthy enough to evaluate w hopefully an ok OL.

Keep Gase and Rizzi but everyone else is expendable but we'll see how Burke finishes out.

Hope we have another solid off-season.

I want to go to the playoffs and then still have Adam Gase fired(Unless he wins a game.) Is that in any way possible?

I'm expecting to go 6-10 or 7-9 so that's what I'm prepared for in my head. And hopefully Gase's head on a stick.

The peripheries of the NFL evolve. I still firmly believe if you can stop the run on defense and run the ball efficiently on offense you are going to win more than half of your games.

Let's ask a different question: what IS happening now?

Anyone paying attention to today's games? Ravens beat Bengals and Colts beat Titans. That means Dolphins are now tied with 4 other teams for the last WC spot (Dolphins, Bengals, Ravens, Titans and Colts all tied at 5-5).

Makes this Colts game coming up suddenly playoff relevant. Oh, and our loss to the Bengals isn't that important with a multi-way tie.

I just came to post the same info. Our Miami Dolphins, warts and all, control their own destiny.

I was going to post some in-depth statistical analysis, but I didn't want to confuse cbrad with big numbers and such.

And yet people want to get rid of Gase. If he makes the playoffs in two of his first three seasons, with all the injuries and problems that have plagued us, dude should get the key to the city of Miami.

I am with you! We don't know how high Gase's ceiling is, but his floor seems reasonably high considering what he has had to work with.

That's football- you're never out until you're out. It may sound shocking to some but we're still in the thick of things.

Not sure where to ask this, but has anyone heard of any players we might get back from injury? Also, on a different note, I am hoping we see a few more wrinkles coming out of the break. This is a big game. We need to shore up our defense and on offense get on a roll.
