Unbeaten '72 Dolphins welcome Patriots to the club http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/football/nfl/12/28/72.dolphins.ap/index.html
Congrats to them for a good regular season, but sports writers nowadays just plain suck. We celebrate the 17-0 Dolphins not the 14-0 Dolphins. The Pats had a great regular season but all this jumping up and down by the media is foolish considering 19-0 is required to "join the club".
^That's the only way I'll watch football in 2008 aside from the Dolphins, so I hope you're right. The NFL is no different than the NBA, except the NBA wasn't changing the outcomes of games -- just how much a team won or loss by when games were already over, basically. NFL = politics, and I don't like politics.
Some of you guys need to just accept it. These Patriots are way better than the Fins teams of the early 70s. This is dynasty thats already won 3 SBs and on its way to a fourth. Look forward and not backwards. Our goal has to be to be competitive first and then to win SBs second. Right now, the Patriots are the best dynasty thats ever played this game.
Conspiracy theories. Lets just give credit where credit is due, they're a great team and they had a great season. Congrats to the Pats
no, the patriots have zero class, and zero respect for the game. the ravens was pure example that the NFL is rigged. i hope so much that the patriots lose in their 1st game in the playoffs. it may be Jacksonville they play, which would be awesome...Jaguars are probably the only team aside from the Colts who can beat them right now.
They might not have respect for the game when they're running up the score and their coach might be the biggest jackass on the planet, but you can't deny that they are the most talented team that the NFL has ever seen. Pains me to say it, but they're great.
The so called "field goal dynasty" can hardly be called great as far as dynasties go. The Dolphins, Steelers, 49ers, Packers, Bears, Cowboys were all far more dominant in their eras. Its always the case that the present day teams seem more dominant but that's just due to them being fresher in our minds. Talk to me when they actually dominate teams in the playoffs and not just eek by. This present day team is nothing more than the Dick Vermeil St Louis Rams when they burst on the scene. It took teams half the year to figure out how to play them. Now they're in close games every other week. Let5's see how "great" they are over the next month
I would throw in San Diego. If Rivers can have a good game I think they win like they should have last year
There not going to lose a game. The NFL and Refs will make sure of that. They need the biggest ratings for the Super Bowl ever. Having in 18-0 tean in there looking for history will do that. Granted they are good. But lets see how they do with no calls going there way in every game.
Adam, Adam, Adam... Let me explain something to you about football. Its about WINNING. This isn't boxing where you have knockouts and crap. You win, and thats all that matters. You are too young to remember the Perfect Season in Miami. I am not. There were a bunch of close games. In the SB vs the Redskins, they weren't even favored. No one "feared" the Fins. The Steelers won their SBs vs the Cowboys (twice) by only four points both times. Who cares. They won. This dynasty is going to go down as the greatest yet. But don't sweat it. It gives us something to aspire to.
ROFL...you don't cheat to go perfect. You get some calls that go your way. You get some luck. But thats why only one team has ever won them all. You guys need to get past your prejudices and admit greatness where it is. And it is NE, and this NE team would beat that 72 team by 3 TDs.
Well I know they joined history with the other undefeated teams in the regular season. Fins, Bears did it twice, and Now the Pats. Congrats to them, had some calls go their way, but they are by far the most talented team to probably every take a football field. Next year will be a different story though, no way can they keep that team together
Lets not forget..For them to have an undefeated season they have to go on and win the superbowl. If they dont win the superbowl they didnt accomplish what we did... so there is still hope. An undefeated season and an undefeated regular season are two completely different things
people forget too fast that they did this for real, they lost draft picks and were fined this was a serious issue and it seems to have been blown off by the media, they have a blemish on this season like some of the baseball players with HGH
I won't say the Ravens game was "rigged"....but you know damn well the ref did not want to be the guy who ended the perfect season on his instant replay review. So what if the WR didn't have control of the ball.....still call it a TD! Not to mention the 5 do overs of 4th down the Patsies got. New rule I propose: a false start on 4th down = loss of down!
Not a bad idea. It has been proposed before by the sole called "analysts" but I havent heard anything concrete about a rule change. If Baltimore, and moreso Philly didnt "beat themselves" the Ratriots would be 14-2 right now...
As long as they don't get big heads and foolishly start thinking they are better then the 72 Dolphins, congrats to them.....if they survive the playoffs and superbowl.
Its too late for that. There heads are bigger than the staypuffed marshmallow man. Look at when Rodney Harrison got in Billick's face. You dont do that to a coach. He should have been suspended for at least 1 game
It hurts but they are the best team I have seen in my lifetime. They have never really looked like losing this season, even when they came close they were still only a deep lob to Moss away from 7 points. I don't see them winning the superbowl, because I have faith that at some point, somebody will have to beat them. It only takes Brady having a bad day, and up to this point he hasn't. The scary thing is, they will add a top ten draft pick next season. Yes, they will probably lose a coach or two, they always do, but they always keep ticking. The only hope we have of winning the division in the near future is if Belichick leaves, and he just might decide to leave on the top this offseason.
IMO, Untrue... Talent: If you look on just talent, on Offense they are not even the most talented Offensive team this year (Colts still havejust as good recievers as the Pats, better TE, better O-line, better RB, and a QB with more skills), On defense the Pats are better then the Colts, but the Colts have more players considered the best at their positions. And the most talented all around team by far is the Steeler teams of the 70s(Teams like the Packer teams of the 60s, Cowboy teams of the 70s, Dolphins teams of the 70s (Don't let the noname nickname fool you) 49ers teams of the 80s, Bears of the 80s....all more talented then the Patriots team this year) . Mentally strong (Played as a team, played smart): They may be the most mentally strong team this year, but they are not even close to the 70s Miami Dolphins (Teams like the 60s Packers, 70s Steelers, 70s Raiders.....all way more mentally strong). This Patriots team is running up scores to make themselves look good, but against teams like the old Steelers, Raiders, Dolphins, Cowboys, 49ers, Bears teams they would have hard time even being in the game. Do you really think the Patriots come back (As they did last night against the Giants) against one of the teams I just mentioned.....No way.
I am old enough to remember those teams, and this team is not in their league...Sorry. As Adam pointed out, great FG from a great FG kicker in the last seconds of game decided the Superbowl. This Patriots dynasty played games where most of the games opponents came out think, how the heck did we lose that game, we should have won. Not taking anything away from these Patriots teams, they did what they had to and won, but they were not nearly as dominant as the other dynasties.
[mod]Please keep your comments on the post and not the poster. Just because you disagree with someone, that doesn't make them or their opinions "ignorant".[/mod]
Well, bit of a stupid thing to say considering they only beat the 07 fins by 3 touchdowns. Are you saying that the 72 team are only as good as todays Dolphins?
That's true, it could also be their downfall, they may start becoming too overconfident going into the playoffs
And what will this season mean for them if they lose their first playoff game...Absolutely nothing...Because if that does happen, the Ratriots will not have accomplished what we did and our legacy will stand.
I disagree, the Pats are stacked at every position, especially WR and OL. The Colts don't have the talent that the Pats have. Manning for all of his greatness, is not Tom Brady. Brady just finds a way to make things happen, even without the talented WR's (check his career). I can't think of one player on the Colts that I would choose over his Pats counterpart, seriously. The Pats have a great system in place that even Wes Welker had a monster year. Yeah I know he did well for us last year, but he was All-Pro this year. It's hard for me to comment because I wasn't even a twinkle in my parents eye when the teams of the 60' and 70's were winning, but I can say that players today are bigger, faster and in much better shape and even better prepared than players of the past. So would the Pats be able to come back against those teams? I don't know, they might not have to come back with the way their offense has played.
Great point L2G, I find it hard to compare players and teams from 30 years ago with teams today, the game has changed too much, and players today are completely different.
Congrats to the Pats, we have some company when it comes to a perfect regular season but its all for nothing if they lose in the playoffs.
for all you jokers saying the NFL is rigged... go watch the first half of the ravens game. the pats had a ton of bad calls against them. also, go watch the colts game, where the pats had a ton of bad calls against them. are there officiating mistakes in the NFL? of course. the pass interference rule especially has become a joke. but to say that games are rigged is just obnoxious. and im sorry, but to be able to go undefeated in an era where the league tries its best to make all the teams equal is more amazing than the 72 fins
Another indication that they are classless pieces of crap is that they refuse to honor Sean Taylor by wearing his # 21 on the back of their helmet. Every other team in the NFL does this. This truely shows how selfish and classless the whole organization is.
I disagree, I think there is more talent with the Colts, but hey, everyone has thier own opinions. Wes Welker is a great talent, just because he could not have a monster year here, does not mean he was not very talented, not his fault we could not get a Coach that could use him right, and a QB that could actually get him the ball. True, but those guys were great in their time because of talent and mental toughness, you don't think if they were playing in this time they could not be close physically as the the players of today? They would still still be special player mentally. who knows, it is a guessing game, but special players find a way to compete in any era.
