Looking at the production we’ve gotten from Wilson and Amendola, they’re eclipsing Landry’s production.
Amendola is making the tough over the middle catches, without many sexy stats or highlights reel, but he is chugging away nicely.

Albert Wilson though is doing what Landry cannot, turning short receptions into long TDs. Of Wilson’s 4 TDs on the season at least 3 are TDs that Landry would never have made because he has the speed to escape the DBs, and doesn’t have to try to muscle his way through for a first down. The 75 yarder today is a perfect example where Landry would have trucked the defender to make the first down and maybe a few more yards, Wilson turned on the afterburners and zoomed through the small gap available. PS great downfield blocking by Stills and Drake.
PPS another great block by O’Leary to set up the downfield breakout

    Who?

Tom Landry? Sure he was a great coach and all but what does he have to do with the Dolphins?

My feeling at the time of the deal was that Landry's production could be replaced. In RT's first two years he had Hartline playing in the slot, he managed 70 odd catches and over a thousand receiving yards in back to back seasons with 1 and 4 TDs respectively. What did Landry manage in his second and third year when he replaced Hartline? Roughly 50 more catches, 200 yards and 3 TDs. Not exactly significantly.

The way I saw it was that Landry averaged less than 10 YPC in years one and four, nd over 10 twice in years two and three. He was a good receiver for us and I'd liked to have seen him stat, but his production has proven replaceable and Amendola, Grant and Wilson are doing an excellent job replacing him. I'd go as far to say they have more upside than Landry offered us. So far it is proving a wise decision to move on.

That game was a total disgrace....how in the hell was Gronk split out wide and that freaking open with 30 seconds left? I was all ready to fall asleep and had to cuss out my television over that one.

The thing that impressed me so much was that Wilson broke two tackles before turning on the afterburners. He's an incredibly dynamic player.

Not in the slightest - I thought that offensively we needed more speed and elusiveness. Landry would catch some tough balls, but he just wasn't a playmaker. He didn't scare anyone, and seemed to just serve more to encourage the offense to play short.

I wanted Stills to get a bigger role. While I was not sold on the actual contract Wilson got, it's turning out well. Grant has stepped up. Amendola ... well I was not a big fan, but he's been alright and glad he has been healthy so far.

The biggest disappointment has obviously been Parker. What a bust.

Landry would be a huge upgrade to Amendola in this system from a talent standpoint. But there are things like money and ego.....so

I thought that too- if we could swap Landry for Amendola straight up and all the money was the same, I'd do it. We had to make that choice though because the money is obviously not the same. And with the contract Landry signed, he's essentially going to be in Suh's position in a year or two...a good player that is paid far above his productivity and ends up cut.

Hey, at least he's getting paid though to stink it up in Cleveland. I'd take that $16M/year job if there was an opening.

Amendola has shown a veteran leadership/work ethic that has been praised by both coaches and other receivers alike. Landry has talent but his emotions get the best of him. While talent level upgrade may be true, I'm not sure he's a player upgrade for everything that Amendola has given us.

Along the lines from the OP, anyone missing Ajayi (who's on IR now).

At some point maybe he will realize what he is... a piece, that’s it, however you can’t blame him For a GM fu## up, just glad ours made the right call...on both ends, signing Wilson and letting juicebox go is a very big deal.

    The stats after thus weekend
Landry 31/66 targets 47.0% catch rate
    12.6 y/c (5.9 yards/target)
1 TD, 16 FD (1.5% targets for TD, 24.2% targets for FD)
431 offensive snaps (93.1% of offensive snaps)
    $15.1 million per season

Wilson 23/32 targets 71.8% catch rate.
    15.6 y/c (11.2 yards/target)
4 TD, 10 FD (12.5% of targets for TD, 31.3% targets for FD)
218 snaps (61.1% of offensive snaps)
    $8.0 million per season

    Amendola
    24/31 targets 77.4% catch rate
    8.8 y/c (6.8 yards/target)
0 TD, 9 FD (0% TD; 29.0% of targets for FD
290 snaps (81.2% of offensive snaps)
    $6 million per season

    Wilson and Amendola combined
    47/63 targets (74.6% catch rate)
    12.1 yards/catch (9.0 yards/target)
4 TD, 19 FD (6.3% of targets for TD, 30.2% of targets for FD)
    508 snaps
    $14.0 million per season

NB salary is average per season contract, not cap charge this season.
I didn’t include Jakeen Grant because he was drafted while Landry was still here, but you can add his numbers in for $650,000 per season if you want to add some more salt to your juice.

Obviously with 10 games left to play its far too early to give these numbers too much weight, but the early returns are in Chris Grier’s favor

Edit added snap counts, so if people want to take that into account. FWIW Wilson and Amendola have been in on more ST snaps than Landry.

Did everyone see that Hue Jackson is dissapointed with Landry for leaving the locker room early without meeting his media obligations after his 11 target 2 catch for 20 yard day against the Chargers..

I remember when the reports starting coming in that Landry was a cancer in the locker room. A lot of Dolphin fans here told us that is just sour grapes.

It is looking more and more that Landry was a cancer in the locker room.

Hmmm I don’t know if I would go as far as saying a ‘cancer’, to me it was more a lack of maturity, mixed with an inability to recognize that his ability didn’t match his ego.

I'm not missing him at all. I wouldn't trade him for anyone. He was a decent player, but money was way too much and the more I hear about his attitude at times, the more I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole.
