I know the pats game was harsh for everyone, its 1 game time to move on see what happens up in CINCY. we are still in the lead in the divsion and certainly have the option to keep it. projections thoughts? I personally have a hard time thinking we can beat cincy, they play a similar type of defense as the pats did a lot of man and jamming receivers etc. and there offense is super explosive, even though they lost Eifert (yuck) i think they have alot of weapons what do we do sunday to turn things around?
Get better play out of the offensive line, particularly in run blocking. Since the loss of Sitton we have not been able to run the ball effectively, teams know this and are focusing on shutting our receivers down. Defense needs to shake off last weeks game and get back to work.
Oh yeah, one more huge thing. We need huge improvements on 1st and 2nd down. Everyone talks about our poor rate of conversion on 3rd down, 32%. The reality is most of our 3rd down trys are 7 yards or more. The real problem is being off schedule on 1st and 2nd down. NEWS FLASH!! The league average for 3rd down conversions of 7 yards or more is .................... 30%. WE are no worse than any team converting 3rd down given the distance to make. The problem is we are nearly always trying to convert at 3rd and 7 or more.
It's amazing what that one game did for us in where we rank on offense and defense. We were one of the top defenses by points going in and now we're 14th. Our offense was around average (or a bit above) by points scored and now we're 24th. Tannehill is still 7th in the league with a 106.1 rating, but we're not yet at that 150+ passing attempts cut-off point. He has 94 attempts, so it will probably be after game 7 where we'll see a rating that more or less reflects how he's played. Same goes for overall offense and defense.. Cinci game will be huge.
Good point. I know we all don't have the time when we are throwing out stats, but it's nice to have a little context when they are used. That's why I am not big on rankings. Often, they can be misleading. Note: My ranking comments were not directed at cbrad. If anyone around here can make real sense of what the stats really mean it is him. I couldn't even hold his calculator!
I have a legit question and I didn't want to start a thread about it so i'll put it here as it does have relevance to this upcoming game. Why....aren't we using Kenyan Drake? Look...Never mind that I drafted him on my FF team, I don't care about that. I am just curious as to why we aren't using him. Is Gase saving him for the grind of the season? I envisioned us using him the way Chicago uses Cohen, or the way the Saints use Kamara or Sproles back in the day. I'm just baffled by his lack of touches. I thought for sure we'd get him plenty of looks against the Patriots and he was basically non existent with Gore getting the bulk of the work. Whats the deal? This is the one area where I truly don't understand the logic of Adam Gase. Is it a blocking issue? What?
Let me get this straight...you're saying we need to get better on 1st, 2nd, 3rd and sometimes 4th down? That sounds about right. =)
They're going to roll right over us offensively. I see us giving up over 28 points. Can we score enough to keep up? That's going to be the question.
Gase is trying desperately to use him and Gore a lot more, but it just hasn't worked out. Either the run blocking is terrible, or we've just been behind too much in games and thus had to abandon the run.
No. what I said is we need to get better on 1st and 2nd downs and our performance on 3rd will improve accordingly.
Cincy like to push with their dline we have to negate that with some sceens imo to back em off. Coarse running it would help but we will have to see how that's shakes out. Larson needs to be replaced imo.
