Darn, that's not what I wanted to read this morning. About the only thing that can beat us this season is injuries.
That's a shame. I know that you get injuries over a course of a season, but it's frustrating to lose someone to a scenario like this. Hope Hayes' recovery goes well.
Oh the one that BA and his masters in physics was trying to say he forced as much weight on Carr as possible?
This is tough. This unit has played stellar football all year. This line needs guys moving in and out. Very tough moving forward.
Dolphins head coach Adam Gase said on Monday that Hayes is done for the year after tearing his ACL. Gase added that the injury happened when Hayes worked to avoid putting his body weight on Carr once the quarterback was on the ground. Hayes had two sacks and four tackles in his three games this season. Defensive end Andre Branch also hurt his knee on Sunday, but is day to day. Defensive tackle Akeem Spence was ejected, which left the Dolphins thin enough that guard Jesse Davis took a snap on defense.
Big Loss in the rotation. Also F this rule and the Leauge. Just put QB's on the field with FLAGS. What they are asking of the defensive player is stupid. Ryan Included if you can hit the opposing QB you do it. Don't use all your weight what kinda candy *** BS league is this?
Tough loss. Hopefully we'll be able to find some capable replacements along the line. The Raiders absolutely destroyed us up front when the line was thin and gassed.
How long has this been a rule because I hasn't heard of it before? I was honestly shocked when I heard the commentators talking about it yesterday. I get not slamming the guy into the ground, but not falling on him with your weight? Contact sport? Hello?
Even before this injury this rule has been painful to watch when its been enforced. After the injury... I really really hate anything and anyone that had anything to do with this rule change... Come on NFL do the right thing and fix this rule.
Clay Matthews can tell you all about this rule, he's been flagged for it once in each game this year. It's complete crap. Worse than not knowing what a catch is.
I think we need to ditch one of our FOUR QUARTERBACKS and bring up Malveaux and resign Kendall Langford.
Heartbreaking for the guy. We have certainly had more than our fair share of ACL injuries; Ryan and Raekwon last year, and now William. On a positive note, Manchester City's French full-back suffered a ruptured ACL last September and played again in April, though only for a few minutes in each game and went to the World Cup. I hope William has a similarly speedy and full recovery and is back on the field next season.
When the play happened, I was honestly surprised he didn't get flagged for roughing the passer. Sad part is, the NFL could care less if defensive players are getting hurt if it means they can keep their "star" QB's on the field to keep their television ratings high.
It sucks balls ... but the NFL would rather see 10 William Hayes hurt before seeing Carr, Rogers, Brady, Prescott etc go down. That's just the current reality of the game, and it is unlikely to change. QB's make the league money, offense makes the league money. They want more Pat Mahomes and the Chiefs O than anything else possible. Will take time, but defense and refs will adjust. Still, the smart move has been on building up offense, and that is going to continue moreso. We used to see defense rise up in the playoffs fairly often, but man I am not even sure of that happening much anymore.
Sunday was a tough day for the Dolphins defense, which now has another hole to fill up front. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, defensive end Andre Branch will miss some time, after suffering a knee injury against the Raiders. Branch is expected to miss “a few weeks,” which is much better news than they got on William Hayes earlier today.
Ok so let's say that the 2-4 weeks figure that Armando tweeted is accurate, that would mean Branch misses Patriots/Bengals/Bears/Lions
Yeah, we need to drop a QB, bring up the best prospect from the practice squad, and grab a guy in free agency. I'd be looking at a trade too if necessary. A fourth rounder or later for a solid DT sounds fine, to keep our season on this winning track.
its not stupid, they are protecting the only player on the field who is in a completely vulnerable defenseless position when throwing the football, it’s a cheap shot for the defender to try and drive them into the ground..pretty simple to see the logic behind it...it’s a cheap shot bottom line on a defenseless player.., they can’t fight back or protectt themselves. Suck it up defenders and find a fair fight.. I have nothing against aggressive football, but when it Mano e Mano ya know.
Well if PFT is to be believed the ESPN take, as usual, is completely wrong. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.c...ttee-wants-roughing-rule-applied-differently/
