"As of right now, here is the Dolphins’ 53-man roster for 2018. We will update it with changes if needed when waiver claims start coming in tomorrow. Definitely applauding McTyer for his effort, although I really would have preferred to see Isaiah Ford kept around. I'd be shocked if he doesn't get picked up by another team. Also, feels odd to keep 3 QB's and 4 TE's, while I don't think it's ever a good idea to keep less than 10 OL. I would have dropped David Fales, A.J. Derby, and Maurice Smith for Isaiah Ford, Jalen Davis, and Isaac Asiata. Way more potential in the latter three. All in all, fairly happy with the decisions made. Let's make some noise this year.
I was going to say the same thing about Ford and Asiata (for Fales and Derby). Hopefully Asiata makes the practice squad but if not, then I'm sure there's a reason. I'm thinking maybe he just can't learn the assignments or something like that...I honestly expected him to be a starter this season until we brought new folks in. My other huge worry is that both Osweiler and Fales looked rough in pre-season...and they're not getting any more snaps from here on out. A lot criticized Matt Moore and I pray we don't have to see what a bad QB2 with no reps actually looks like in a game this year. Oh, and Ford will land somewhere. He's just too darn consistent not to.
I mostly agree...except I would have kept Maurice Smith and cut Cordrea Tankersley, who I think is the worst player, by far that we kept on defense. He's a HORRIBLE football player. Maurice Smith is a good football player at a deep position. And with Fitzpatrick basically a CB, I think the numbers work out.
Tankersley has never been an all-round corner type because there's not much going on upstairs. He's a very physical player though with good size and speed that can generally play well in simple assignments. I think we drafted him for one reason- cover Gronk.
I just started a thread on this and honestly, I'm excited! I don't think Falk is any more ready than Fales or Osweiller, but Gase saw something in the kid as a long-term answer. I'm sure he jumped all over it when he saw the name on waivers.
My question is if Miami likes McEvoy more than Ford. There must be something we don't know about Ford that kept him from making the team.....maybe an injury or some personal stuff going on. It just doesn't make sense to me otherwise.
But who gets ditched? Normally I'd say keep the veteran so you have a legit backup option but in this case I'm not sure that's true. So Fales and Faulk would be cheaper with more upside...
I have a feeling it will be Osweiler just off the experience, plus he did look really sharp last week. It's anyone's guess though since Gase is high on all 3 QB's.
Damn, so four backup linemen? That's slicing it awfully thin...even with two on the practice squad. They must feel incredibly comfortable with our starting 5 and their health. Fingers crossed folks!
Yes...that's why I resent him. I dont care at all that he can't cover anyone. And then I get all crazy and voice those opinions on Fins message boards. All because hes banging my girl. On the field, the guy was a real difference maker.
