Would have to imagine Winslow will be included in a TJ trade, right?

I think Spo is aware of the big picture. Supposedly he is very active with the front office, and there is some talk that eventually he'll move upstairs after Riley leaves. I would imagine that if he's pushing this, he sees something specific with him.

There is Moute's younger, cheaper replacement.

    Apples and Oranges....

It's okay to admit the Warriors have both been very good, and very lucky in this run.

The Heat are trying to trade Dion Waiters according to Sam Amico.

Interesting. I'm torn on that. Waiters has as much upside as anyone on the roster, and while you don't like the length, the annual value isn't horrible. I guess you move as many of these contracts as you can, but he's one that I'd hesitate on. I hope they're not attaching another resource to make it happen.

Also, if they do trade him, it will look bad overall. They gave him that deal knowing he'd need ankle surgery, and are now trading him without ever seeing him healthy? That doesn't mean it's the wrong move, but it certainly looks like they don't know what they're doing. Unless of course they somehow get value for him, which I'm not counting on.

Rumor has Melo to the Nets for Jeremy Lin and either Allen Crabbe or Demarre. Brooklyn would get a pick as well. Melo would then get bought out.

That would be pretty strange. OKC would be taking back more money than they'd be sending out, lol. And they'd be giving up a pick?

Theyd still shed about 3m if they took back Carroll and that 3m is really like 9m because of the tax. The acquisition of someon like Carroll is a better fit as a 3 and d then Melo there and Lin gives a viable back up pg. From a money standpoint they could probably do better. From a "fit" standpoint, its not bad. And they could always flip someone like Roberson if they want save money.

Lin makes $12.5M and Carroll makes $15.4M. That's $27.9M. Melo makes $27.9. If they were doing that, why not trade for Tyler Johnson who makes a little over $20M after the trade kicker, and filler?

Most likely not. Houston by all means should’ve won the title this year.

Sucks for them then because I think they will be worse next year. I don’t agree that it would have been that easy. I think it was a coin toss.

You guys are honestly saying that in a series where 2 of the rockets 3 wins were within 4 points, that it would have been impossible for the Warriors (objectively the better team) to win? Come on. Would the Rockets have had a better chance? Of course. COULD they have won? Absolutely. But to pretend that it's a certainty is silly IMO. And again, the Warriors were missing Iggy for the entire series. Obviously not as good as Paul, but he could have also made a difference. Especially in the close Rockets wins.

They had HUGE leads in both games 6-7. They may have lost game 6, but with Paul? They weren’t losing game 7.

Possible? Yes. Probable? Not at all.

And yes, losing Iggy was a blow...but not even on the same Richter scale as losing a HOF PG.

Sucks. Unfortunate for the Rockets the way things went down.

Ellington signs a 1-year $6.27M deal with Miami. Obviously that's a great deal for Miami. I wonder what this means, though. There is still a serious logjam, and are they still in the market for Melo? Are there more moves coming?

They are trying to create space for Wade.. fee bad for Ellington... i bet there were more lucrative offers and the market dried up on him while he was waiting for the Heat. The cost of loyalty.

Because Lin is better then Johnson and Carroll is going to help them win games this year?

Miami is now above the tax threshold. The good thing is they don't have to get under right away. The bill is only $4.9 million (I know) so even if it's just to retain his rights until some of those contracts become expiring and mobile, it's a good move.

  28. CaribPhin

    CaribPhin Guest

If the point of trading Melo is to lower their tax bill, then that's a silly trade and it doesn't matter if they're better than Johnson because they wouldn't be lowering their tax bill.

  29. CaribPhin

    CaribPhin Guest

I think he's fine with this. Ellington, like everyone else, knows the Warriors are the heavy favorites to threepeat. Mbah a Moute, Ariza, Reddick, all guys who took one year deals to see how the landscape changes next off-season. Outside of a Kawhi trade or an unforeseen blockbuster trade, the balance of power for this season is set.

Elliington essentially opted into an additional year of his previous deal at the same salary. He gets to see what Miami can do to improve and see which teams improve to rival GSW. Now the MLE won't need to be spent on having one competent shooter.

Well if it’s to better their team and still gain financial flexibility for beyond this year than that trade accomplishes that.

  31. CaribPhin

    CaribPhin Guest

Counterpoint: That Lin/Carroll trade costs the Thunder $130 million in taxes. Miami's team salary+taxes are $131 million with the Ellington contract, for perspective. A much cheaper first round exit.

I don't agree with that. And Melo could help them win games this year. It seems like the MO is to save money from that crazy tax payment they currently would have.

Doesn't really impact Wade does it? He'd getting the MLE if he signs.

A Wade signing would also further the logjam. There has to be more coming, and there are some rumors that there could be. There's some speculation about some of the recent moves Chicago has made to create cap space.

Melo is a poor fit there imo. As long as Westbrook is chucking 30 shots a night they’re better off moving on from Melo. I think they’d like to save money but they’d also like to stay competitive. Acquiring Lin and Carroll could allow them to move on from a poor contract like Roberson and improve the team all at once.

They’ll continue exiting in round one for as long as you have a ball dominant pg and a poor supporting cast. That gives them depth they lack and attractive expirings for a trade if they so choose.

  38. CaribPhin

Melo has nothing to do with improvement. $130 million is an entire NBA payroll.

Well that OKC isn’t happening because the nets just did work.

Jeremy Lin to the Hawks...my guess probably expirings and a 2 but no word yet in Woj’s report.

Nets trade Isiah Whitehead to Denver for Kenneth Faried expiring, Darrell Arthur (I believe 2 years left on his deal), a 2019 protected 1st, and a future 2.

Nets have 2 max slots for next year already, their own first and now Denver’s first albeit protected. Knicks need to get moving. Lee and TH JR should fetch firsts. Noah you may have to give one of those firsts to move if you want a clear cap. Moving the first two though gives NYK two max slots as well.
