"Most fans want a full return to the uniforms worn in the late ’60’s and 70’s but the Dolphins don’t appear to be in a rush to join them." wow.
Uniform designs are now “tweaked” every few years in order to get fans to shell out for new replica jerseys. This isn’t limited to football, if you look at the soccer world cup every team that made it last time and this time are wearing slightly different jerseys. All the soccer fans want their teams (national or club) to return to the traditional jerseys but Reebok and Nike et al make too much money from redesigning the jerseys to ever go back. That’s why you get one or two “throwback” games a year to sell fans more old school jerseys and memorabilia, but the uniforms are going to get adjusted and changed every few years. If I had my choice we’d be running with the classic unis of the late 60s and 70s, but Ikm not going to hold my breath waiting for it to happen.
i think Fink listens to the fans, after all he did move the stands closer to the field.. we'll go with three im pretty sure..just takes time to figure out which game. I like the throwbacks we wear as well, as long as we rock the black cleat with them im good.. should also be interesting to see the new tweaks. Finkel is the man, he'll do the right thing.
Exactly. Alternate jerseys exist to sell merchandise. If the fans are already buying both, then the team and league have no reason to change things up. I do like the alternate throwbacks more than the regular ones, however my personal preference would be for something different alltogether - a new jersey with a darker shade of aqua.
While I agree with you, from a color combination perspective, I like the throwbacks because they are as close to unique as you can get in the sports uni business. Navy and Aquua would be too close to Jacksonville’s Black and Teal. While I have a lot of fondness for the all whites, if you’re at a sports bar and you see aqua and white on the screen you know instantly it’s the Dolphins.
I don't get the fuss over uniforms. Yes, I like some more than others, and I do wish that the Dolphins colors were maybe not so "clashy". But that's only because I like to wear caps and other dolphins shirts and it's hard to find clothes that look OK with either.
I'd love to see a throwback to the late 80s or early 90s, but I have no expectations of that actually happening.
I had the same conversation with a few folks here last year- I don't get into that either. If I had to choose, we'd wear all black with a cool orange/aqua stripe pattern weaved in that makes the outline of the dolphin. But since we can't get that then I don't care. =)
Soccer they get new uniform every year for national team, it's been like that for ages. Not just world cup.
It amazes how much money the NFL leaves on the table with not allowing more Jersey designers and changes. Sometimes people allow tradition to ruin their good sense
There can be a happy medium. The team has to retain an identity, and the uniforms, colors and logos do that. Look at what college football has become. I can turn on a game and have no idea of who is playing until I look at the scorebox. Teams wear uniforms that have nothing to do with their traditional identity. Its a confusing mess. That's not what I want the NFL to ever be. Gradual updates that stick close to the scheme of the team are great. Massive changes for this team or that are fine, as long as they only happen once a generation or so per team. Things need to be updated, but it cannot become chaos.
I am not looking for the college level, whatthefu**erie when it comes to uniforms. I think that every 5 years teams should have newer uniforms and redesigned logos. We should be looking back at the eXtreme! logos of the 90s, wondering what we were smoking, as the 90s were terrible. Except the 90s were "meh" like most NFL logos are "meh". The NFL is lucky about Fantasy Football or they would be thought of as baseball, an old person's game.
Wish they would as really that the teams all of them need to have newer uniforms and redesigned logos there. To get with the 21st century.
Maybe I am imagining things, but It seems to me that our players play with more swagger and our winning percentage is pretty good when we wear the throwbacks? If so, I like those. Otherwise, I am pretty cool with any of our choices as long as it's not the all orange ones. That color must be cursed and I think of the Bucs and their horrible seasons when I see those.
Ha! From your comment, I am guessing, we are perfect. I'm in. Let's go for it! I have my Ricky Williams orange jersey ready to rock at the sports bar! :-)
LOL, do we care about ugly or winning more? The correlation could be as simple as the opponents getting blinded from the neon and they forget what they're doing. That makes me want to change my vote- forget the black jerseys with the neon stripes. I want full jerseys made out of that reflective tape first responders wear! Our players would gleam like diamonds on the field. =)
I'm a strong believer that the uniform the players are wearing in has virtually nothing to do with whether the team wins or loses the game. That being said, as a fan, I want to be proud of my team when they are out on the field, and I want to be excited when I watch the highlights and look at the photos later on. And seeing them wear what I consider to be ugly garbage does not embody that.
Not posting much anymore, but I'd like to point out the OP is assuming the statement they quoted it true. If one were to read the article they'd realize there's no evidence, no study, no poll, no....anything whatsoever to back up the statement "most fans want a return...". That is literally a fabricated "fact" that people are taking to be true.
