The Dolphins spent a lot of time talking up wide receiver DeVante Parker last season with offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen, wide receivers coach Shawn Jefferson and other predicting Parker would end the year with big numbers. Whether because of Ryan Tannehill‘s injury or other reasons, things did not play out that way. Parker put up a year that looked similar to his first two in the league and that’s led to a different approach this year. Wide receivers coach Ben Johnson, who took over the job when Jefferson was bumped to assistant head coach, said that approach involves fewer grandiose predictions and more day-to-day work. “We were making these giant claims about him last year,” Johnson said, via the Miami Herald. “Now just one-day-at-a-time mentality. Keep stacking good days on top of each other.” Head coach Adam Gase said earlier in the offseason that he’s seen a renewed sense of purpose in Parker and Johnson concurs, saying that Parker “understands the urgency and how important this year is” for him. The coming months will show if that leads to the kind of results the Dolphins were expecting last year or if Parker’s potential remains more appealing than his production.
For me, this comes down to two simple things- 1) Can Parker be healthy enough to play at a high level for 16 straight games? I don't want to hear about ability, potential and all that stuff....just tell me if the guy is available without cramps, sprains, and other excuses. 2) Can our line get Tannehill enough time to fully take advantage of a deep threat like Parker? That's the real question here because I'm not going to be impressed with screen passes and 3 yard outs. If the line isn't considerably better then Parker's speed/talent/catch radius/vertical jump really won't change enough to matter....even if he has evolved considerably.
Chris Chambers confirming Parker's lackadaisical attitude....I didnt need it, I could see it in his actions. He needs to wake up and start taking care of his body and STAY THE F OFF twitter!! Retweeting my girl is shady tweets and talking about music everyday. Get your shot together young man.
Said player not utilizing some former player's now business is hardly a telltale indication of their current attitude. And who cares what they do on Twitter. Just be happy you have such in-depth access to player's and athlete's lives now and be content.
I'd tell the organization to **** off and preserve myself if they brought in some dip**** like Cutler too. We're all good for '18.
Would be silly for a professional athlete to ever think that way. Dude checked out mentally for half a year, just is what it is. Hoping he is more engaged as Gase suggested, because he is very talented.
But it is reality. In many aspects, they're just normal every day people with the same mental processing as the rest of us.
I mean, I wouldn't check on mentally if something like that happened. I dont think thats why at all, I think it had a lot to do with his GF sucking off his buddies.
just shooting the sh## here, but maybe were deflecting any negative notions about him because we wanna move him?
I don't care what he does on twitter, except, then its tied to him sucking. "His girl was stepping out on him" or whatever. That's the real shame. I don't care what kind of relationship he has with that ho...just don't let it affect you. If its going to, tell the coaches so we can keep him on the inactive list or move on from him. He looks like Tarzan he plays like Jane. And we have some players that can play...even younger guys, I think. If Parker cant get his head straight, and be committed to being a professional, we should jettison him somewhere else.
Bringing down the hype around him couldn't hurt. I don't really want to hear stories about his "potential" anymore, I just want him to go out and do his job. If he can't do that, then I don't want the coaches to hesitate in pulling him for one of the other guys on our team. At least no coach's reputation is on the line if he is bust, so they may be more inclined to move on from him IF he doesn't perform.
Gase is smart. He is praising publicly, this puts even more heat on Devante to start taking the proper steps in his preparation to stay healthy and excel. A focused dedicated Devante Parker is a potentially elite WR.
Here's Parker's latest at the podium. Looking at him, I am like damn. The dude is a monster WR who is big and fast. However, I have to admit, he's a hard guy to figure out. I know a lot are down on him and along with me, frustrated. I hope he proves us wrong.
He just didn’t develop socially, it’s really awkward for him..he’s obviously immature. This regime didn’t draft him.. It’s not difficult when you have that kind of talent, just keep your mouth shut and train your body, that’s it..
If he is smart, he will Beast out and get a lucrative contract. Time will tell if its with the dolphins. Would hesitate to give him a lot of money. Hopefully he changes my mind.
