http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/football/pro/dolphins/sfl-flspdolphins23sbaug23,0,731626.story A nice read. The staff has been very impressed with Ricky Williams and it talks about how players like Vonnie Holliday are trusting Ricky Williams' abillities this season. I thought Ricky was looking at around 14 to 16 carries a game this year but that number could go up with Brown injured. The article points out that he could get 20 carries against the Jets. I'm thinking he gets more than that, especially if Ronnie is out. I'm looking at 25 carries for him while Parmele or Cobbs could get another 7 to 10. It brought up that Ricky was in his last year of his contract. I think this will be a interesting decision next off-season. I don't know if they will want to keep him because the management could be looking at a certain amount of money they want to give him and he could get higher. I hope we keep him, especially with Ronnie getting injured every year.
Nobody will give him a dang thing in free agency. We'll keep him. The number of teams interested in 31 year old backs is fairly limited. I could see the Patriots inquiring but Parcells likes Williams and we'll give him a fair deal to stay at least one more year after this if not two. He really does run much like he did at 25, so it's not unreasonable to expect three more years from Ricky.
yeah, just like Favre, huh? No one gave a thing for him.... It's amazing what having an allstar season will do to your league value. Same can happen to Ricky.
Favre is a Hall-of-Fame QB with no drug related issues. Ricky is a player at a position where the life cycle is not that long. He loves the Dolphins and with a fair offer would certainly stay.
granted favre didn't get caught but i would call rehabbing due to an addiction of pk's a drug-related issue. the only difference between ricky and favre in that sense is ricky got caught(albiet 3 times) and favre hasn't. if ricky has a old school ricky yr then owners will knock us down to get him.i would rather keep him here myself if his price is not ungodly.
I'll just enjoy watching Ricky do what Ricky can do, then see what happens next off season. Ricky is going to help make this a fun year and win some games.
Yep , and must people that are into pills snort them, and i've never meet a pill monkey that wasn't also into coke.
With Ricky, we've heard this before haven't we ?? At any rate, not to be negative, but if Ricky shows he can shoulder the load again and be the back he once was, we'll all be very happy. Unfortunately Ricky has proven time and again that things aren't always as they seem...once he has some success is he going to slip back into his shell again ?? I don't know.... I do know that every time we've (Dolfans) have put our trust on him, he's failed us... Will this time be different ?? Hopefully not until after RB is back to 100%....that's what our season may be resting on...
Something I haven't seen factored in here on resigning Ricky: he still OWES the Dolphins $8.6 million which we have not (yet) tried to collect. If we want Ricky playing here, Ricky will be playing here, I don't see any way he leaves us. We might see fit to give him a small-to-decent raise, but as long as we still hold $8.6 million over his head, he's going nowhere unless we want him to.
I can see how the end of yr convo is going to go.... "ok Ricky with incentives and bonuses your pay for the yr was 5.6 mil. Now you only owe us....lol.
I'll admit it, im pleasantly surprised with what Ricky has brought to the table this year. I never thought it would work out as well as it appears it will. I figured he'd come back, and still be a good to average RB for us. Now the more I see him in game action, the more it seems like this guy has never missed a beat, even after what... 3 years? Its pretty damn incredible. Hopefully he doesnt mess it up.
If he can recapture his form of old we could indeed be challenging for a wildcard spot THIS season. I would love that.
Favre is a pill popper. Favre is further through his shelflife than Ricky is through his. And Ricky hasn't taken the standard beating that most feature backs have taken. There is no reason to think that Ricky can't produce the same as he previously did. What we've seen from him in the preseason and camp supports the idea of a stellar comeback.
