This club is perfect fit for Klopp, I see us as his final coaching destination. Hopefully beyond 2022 :-). What I remember noticing when Cuntinho was still playing with us is that while he was creative, others would look to him as the focal point to get the ball to the front three, especially when we played the lower table teams who choose to sit back. It was as you say holding us back, him leaving forced everyone to get better at supplying the front three. TAA apparently triggered a pay increase for himself, good on the lad he has been such a bright spot and a scouser and lifelong Liverpool, imgaine how crazy that must be to grow up supporting the team you are now helping to get back to the glory days :-).

As for Lovern, I was so worried yesterday when there wasn't any word on his injury but today the team said he should be okay. Also Gomez is nearly fit and back to full training. Will be great for the next week and half coming up.

It'll be interesting to see which 11 Klopp chooses for this Saturday's road game at WBA. With Roma clash coming up on Tuesday, want a healthy top 11 for that one.

So I'll be going to Anfield this next season, just depends on what games are on offer from the club since it'll be my first match there but I couldn't pass up going to see them versus United at the Horseshoe so I bought two tickets 5 rows up on the Liverpool supporters side behind the goal. Can't freaking wait, even though most of the big players will still be resting from the World Cup.

I have the same feeling about the WBA, I think it will be something similar to Everton match with possibly Gomez/Moreno playing since they are fit.

ah, lucky... but I'm confused, you said you were going to see them play United at the Horseshoe. Isn't that game being played in Michigan? "Horseshoe" refers to the stadium Ohio State plays in. You don't want to get the two confused

Yeah, that's on my "list" of things to do.. see them play at Anfield.

Hahaha I sure as hell did get them confused. I'm lucky that I have a side gig with Delta and work a seasonal job from May-Sept, 6 hours a week and I fly for free on Delta metal and get 10% fares on that majority of other airlines. I was planning on going this season, but bought a house last year and was trying to be responsible and build up the savings again.

Mo Salah, player of the year, as many expected. So great!

Liverpool have been awesome to watch this season. I've seen almost all of Salah's goals. Hope he keeps it going. If they stay healthy the are building a very complete team. Still stiff competition with City, United, and the Spurs.

I really enjoy watching the Spurs but their offense has really sputtered, esp. since Kane went down. He hasn't really been the presence he was before and Delli Alli has been pretty blah the past couple of games. Not nearly as creative.

But, Back to Salah. What a player. Some of his goals have been just magical - perfect touch, such incredibly quick thinking. His reactions as to what to do with the ball - are so lightning fast - and most of the time he makes the right decision. Just a great season to watch imo. As long a Tottenham finish ahead of Chelsea all will be well. Cannot abide Chelsea.

yes it does, he was just getting into a groove with LFC. But I don't think he'll be missed as long as everyone else stays healthy for the rest of this season. More on that in my next post.

I don't know if you told me before the Roma match that having a three goal lead wouldn't make me extremely happy... but after conceding those two late goals, man I can't help but feel the sky is going to fall on us next Wednesday LOL. Must STOP THINKING LIKE THAT! ****ing Lovren... he started it... then Milner's pen.... yeah, it was a 50/50 call I reckon. Could go either way. Shame it went against us.. I thought Milner and Hendo yesterday were absolutely brilliant in their defending back. If they can put in another performance like that, we should be okay. And Roma can't defend against our front three. Not with Salah. He makes everything work. He just backs off the defenders and creates so much space and hesitation. Now, they are saying Roma played with the wrong setup for most of the game. That might be true, but that's not giving LFC enough credit.

Note, I haven't seen the BM vs RM match yet... don't know what happened... time to do some scouting

Yea i don't buy that BS that Roma played setup for the wrong game, if the coach is worth anything he could have made the tactical changes in the first half or even at halftime. Put simply Roma were outclassed, the Lovern mistake was his first bone headed one in sometime that I can think of and reminiscent of the Spurs fiasco earlier in the season. It happens, and I think he'll respond big time in Roma for us. Yea can't really argue the penalty, it could have gone the other way and we did catch a break on Salah's first goal as well with him slightly offside. If anything I think the two conceded goals will be good for the team, make them realize hey we can't lift the foot off the pedal or else. Hendo played his best game ever I think in a Reds jersey. Gini was phenomenal coming in for Ox, if he plays the same role next week I think he's inline to final score an away goal lol. I'm absolutely gutted over Ox, but there was a silver lining that he has no ligament damage which the club announced yesterday. Preliminary thought is 2-3 months on the injury. Oh and we can't lose anyone else in the midfield, 4 or 5 matches left and not one backup left there anymore :-/ .

Oh **** those Roma fans for attacking our supporters :mad:, one supporter is in the ICU over there still.

Well the score ended 0-0, but the ref sure won the I'd say. Not concerned with the result, they played with 5 different starters, tried a different tactical scheme and still nearly pulled that one out. Still bothers me how he missed two obvious penalties, and somehow we rarely get any penalties calls go out way, oh well. Can't wait for Wednesday.

PS- Wasn't sure if you read but Buvac is taking a leave of absence. Lots of articles speculating what caused it. Hopefully it doesn't affect the team, don't think it would but who knows.

    That's a heck of a call mate!!

Well that is the best 4-2 loss in Liverpool history... at least that I can recall  Certainly the lads deserved better on the scoreline. It really wasn't that close on aggregate. It doesn't really matter though. A UCL final against hated Ronaldo. Going to be epic. Hoping for a good game. The boys will enjoy the experience no matter what. Young team. Huge moment.

Now, I'm not enjoying looking ahead and seeing Ronaldo coming in on the left vs TAA and Lovren. That just doesn't have a good feel to it

Would be nice to win this weekend at Chelsea just to wrap up top 4 before the final game... but it wouldn't be LFC without it coming down to the final game would it? Lets hope tonight's XI are healthy for the final.

WE'RE GOING TO THE FINALS :yahoo::yahoo:!!! Never in my wildest dreams thought we'd have a shot at the finals. Was on cloud nine all day yesterday after the match. Can't believe I got the Gini goal prediction right, well deserved for him (IMHO losing starts to Ox seemed to make him play much better). Was a comfortable win all around even though the as you mentioned contrary to the scoreline. I think they'll handle themselves quite well in the finals. Bayern looked like us in fall where we couldn't convert any chances, so if we play as well as we can we have a good chance to win :-). Either way, its been a great year and been fun to share it with ya!!

yeah it must have been someone he knows because he was motioning to him to meet him afterwards. One of the things that struck me about that video was so few supporters wearing LFC jerseys. I suppose they didn't want any trouble there in Rome? I mean usually it's a sea of red wherever they play.

BTW, next time we play Chelsea we should just sit back from the start and play the way they do. go for the 0-0 draw. screw it. we only needed a point from the start of that match to finish in the top 4. Force them to come out and attack... then we counter with our front three on their back three.

I believe the club and Merseyside Police told supporters not to wear jerseys or red colors since there have been problems with some of the ultras in Rome, especially after the issues in the first leg at Anfield. Just finished watching the Chlease v Huddersfield match, and they did us a huge solid with the fraw. Now just need one point to ensure Champions league.

I think we have a chance at this. We've come this far. Why the hell not? Scoring the first goal is going to be huge, especially if it's LFC. Each team is at their best when they can counter. I do think their defense is not as strong as ours. Bayern proved that. And there wasn't really anything special that they were doing that we can't. I don't think anyway. Although maybe that's me being biased.

I obviously don't want to see a poor call decide the game. Ronaldo is notorious for diving/acting/embellishing. Lets hope that doesn't happen.

I'm assuming we'll open the game with our standard 4-3-3... with:

    Karius
TAA Lovren (gasp) VVD Robertson (RoboCarlo)
    Gini Hendo Milner
    Salah Firmino Mane

Bench? Migs, Klavan, Clyne, Moreno, Lallana, Ings, Solanke I suppose?? I guess you could see Can or Woodburn for Clyne/Moreno/Solanke, they are the only other two available I believe?

Oh man I'm so stoked and excited. Usually get butterflies just thinking about it hahaha. I think we have a really good chance to win, but we do have to play some good football to make it happen. I honestly feel that the winner will the team that deals with the nerves the best, and imho Real have more pressure on them winning their third in a row. For us, no one expected us to make this deep run without Coutinho, so I feel they we are playing with house money and can totally take this one. Win, Lose or Draw this season has been a memorable one, and can't wait for many more.

I think Lovern is gonna have another monster game, without the boneheaded mistake he made in first leg againist Roma. He's really turned his season around since the Arsenal early sub. Can somehow miraculously got himself fit, and even though I don't like him that much he will be another boost for the bench. Your starting lineup is what more than likely will be what we put out.

Any plans for the match? Dad, brother and I are going to be doing our normal cook breakfeast, drink coffee while watching pregame then watch the match. So glad we can watch it live. I'll try to hope on here during it as well.

    ALLEZ ALLEZ ALLEZ!!!!

PS- Rumors swirling that we are going to go after Lyon's Fenkir . Imgained the midfiled we can possibly have with Naby coming and then Fekir as well. Its a great time to be a Red that's for sure :-).

Prediction... 3-1 LFC wins it! Boom goes the dynamite

I reckon Gini and Mane have monster games. These two can be the difference today. They are trending way up in their form since March or thereabouts.

I'll watch at home with the family...at least me and my son, not sure about the wife and daughter. They are typically not watching with us, but it's such a big game they probably can't help themselves. I'm going to feel bad for my neighbors, that much I can tell you. No matter what happens, there will be screaming, yelling, tears, and the police may need to be called. Good luck today! We got this!

Yeah mate, it was deliberate. Very saddening way to go lose the game, never thought it would go down like that. Salah gets taken out and then Karius does the rest. Madrid didn't win that game, Karius gave it to them. You could say that Bale's goal was the difference though. I mean you have to give credit there. To see some of these RM players play the way they do is absolutely disgusting though. They are too talented to have to resort to those types of things. The dives, rolling on the ground like their knee just got taken out, the extra curricular stuff. Yeah, it's a sad part of the game nowadays. But I just hate to see it.

Anyway, we'll be back next season, no doubt about that. Silverware is on the horizon. Next time, when our top player goes out, we'll have a bench we can depend on that can come in and make a difference. I'm really looking forward to this transfer window and seeing what we do. I'm excited as hell. I don't know much about this Nabil Fekir fella... just some Youtube highlight stuff. The little Fekir looks good though

I suppose Migs is going to be out. I like Ward but I don't know if we'll give him an opportunity next season. Doing what Karius did in the most important game of his life. I'm not sure you can come back from that. Can he even be counted on to be a #2? Truthfully, he did some good things this season. We wouldn't have been in the CL final without him. But average GK's have a way of making spectacular saves look easy and easy saves look damn right impossible. I can't imagine we don't bring someone in to challenge. It's probably our top priority. I mean you look at the front 3 and you're not going to go out and buy someone to replace Mane/Firmino/Salah.

Mane was brilliant today, as expected. We have to find a way to keep him and Salah together for as long as possible. Their speed fits what we do. You'd like to have another speedy player to add to the mix and rotate and provide depth as needed. That should be an objective this window.

I thought Firmino had a rough day today. He was just a little off from the start. In these massive games you find out who has it and who doesn't. Firmino didn't have it today. Does that mean he won't have it next time, I don't know. He certainly has earned the right to remain the #9 on this team though. But a part of me wonders if we can't do better. I highly doubt that will be a thing to watch this window, adding a competitor to RF. But we should be looking at someone who can play in his role and give him a rest. It's obvious to me that neither Mings nor Solanke are going to be that guy. We need depth along the front lines clearly.

We also need depth in the midfield. I'm content with Hendo and Gini and I'm anxious to see what Keita can do as I suspect he'll be one to burst forward more than those two. Clearly it seems Can is on the way out. So are you replacing Emre with Keita, I suppose you are? Milner should remain as a solid depth player in the MF but I think we need a bigger bodied player to add to this mix. I've liked Grujic and I wonder if he could be that guy. It's something to monitor certainly. Again, you want depth here which was lacking once Coutinho went out and Can was hurt. It would also be nice to add a free kick specialist in the mold of Coutinho.

The defense is all of a sudden a strength with our "usual" back four. They all showed in this match why they should be considered the starters next season. Robertson had an amazing tackle tracking back on a break away inside his own box to save a would be goal. He's been beyond expectations all season. And the expectations were there for me. I had a feeling he would be a good player for us having watched him a bit at Hull. I didn't expect him to be this good this fast. He's clearly the #1 left back. VVD has been everything he was supposed to be since joining in January. There's no wonder as to why the defense has improved since he came in. He's the main reason why. He makes everyone better. He's exactly what you want in a center back. We are so fortunate to have him. I suppose the one thing about him that sticks in the back of your mind is his health. He's had some issues before. You want depth behind him certainly. I'm sensing that DEPTH is becoming a reoccurring theme in this post

Finnatic, I have to give you credit on predicting greatness from Lovren today. He, like Robo, had an immense tackle tracking back to stop a breakaway inside his own box. And you could see what it meant to him after the game, breaking out in tears (Hendo did too I think). There are times when he drives me nuts. We all know that he's the weak link on the back four. We should be thinking about adding a third CB for pure number reasons. I like Gomez though. So we shouldn't go crazy here and overthink this. TAA... he's 19. his body will fill out and he'll get stronger. That, to me, is the one thing that's lacking. It was a big moment for him today. He'll grow from it. He has the admiration of his competitors. SO you know he's the right player for us at that spot.

And I think about the bench players that we have...
Solanke... he should be loaned out, in my view. He needs regular first team soccer to grow and get better. I've never been a big fan though so my expectations are really low.
Ings... I don't see where he fits for us. He wasn't on the bench today. It'll be an interesting summer for him to see where he ends up. He needs regular action though, and I don't see that happening with this team.
Lallana... horrible season for him in terms have the injuries. Never got going. He wasn't in any form for us today. I don't know where he fits for us. He doesn't fit in our standard 4-3-3. Doesn't have the speed to be a front line player at forward in this lineup. I suppose he could fit as a MF, but he's behind Hendo/Gini/Keita. He's not been named to the England World Cup team. There was a time before he got hurt this season (I think it was last season) that he was playing his best soccer as a LFC player under Klopp. If he's playing at that level for us he's a decent bench player. But will he want first team reps on a more consistent basis?
Clyne/Moreno... should probably group these two together. They are really in the same boat. Former starters who now have no place in the starting lineup unless someone gets hurt. Will they want to stay around and be second fiddle? They are certainly good depth though. And with the amount of games we'll be playing next season, should see plenty of chances.

So to summarize where we need to look this window...
-GK (a potential star needs to be added here)
-Speed on the front line to provide depth to Salah and Mane
-A stronger player behind Firmino as depth
-A big MF to cycle in
-a creative MF (Fekir?) to "replace" Coutinho and be your free kick specialist, to be in a changed line up your true #10 role... in the 4-2-3-1 formation. (a potential star here as well would be nice)
-A CB to play in the rotation and provide depth
    -depth depth depth

Well, after all that it's time for a lie down I think... lol... I feel better now :wink2:

"How long will Mo be out?" is the big question now. Will he be back before the new year? And what does that mean for our chances next season? Not sure which is worse today, losing this game or losing Mo for an extended period of time?

I'd speculate that it's a broken collarbone for Mo. He's being X rayed tonight at the hospital. Four month recovery time if it is. I don't think it's a shoulder the way he was acting after the injury. He wasn't dragging his arm and a shoulder is typically more painful, depending on the separation degree etc. If it was a shoulder it could be less time missed, depending on severity. He's certainly out of the World Cup for Egypt, which is a terrible shame.

    Great stuff Paul!

I agree completely. Exactly my thoughts on the game and Real Madrid. Bale's kick was legendary. Really, all you can do is cheer that as greatness. Wish he played in the EPL though.

But, otherwise, it really was a tragic loss. I think if Ramos plays with class and the goalie doesn't give up ostensibly two 'own goals' - Liverpool would have won. Salah would have scored eventually. The attack looked dominant before his injury. Ramos should have been thrown out, twice (!!) imo. First for the American football tackle on Salah. Second, he could have gotten yellow cards on two "dives" - the Mane 'touch' on the face (these guys get a hand within 3 inches and they are down holding their face like someone broke it), and then the brush on his shin where he fell down like he was in pain. Ramos is so unethical, if he got within 100 yards of my house, I'd call the police on him. I wouldn't trust him enough to loan him $5.

It really bothers me that FIFA and UEFA and the nation leagues do not implement a "booth" official to communicate with the referee - ala Rugby. It would immediately clean the game up. A "booth" official can give out Red Cards after a replay; yellow's on dives; etc. That starts happening and players will stop the foolishness. And, then have some stiff penalties. Give Ramos a Red Card and then suspend him for his next game - or two - which would be the World Cup. Do that, let him pay a price, and future players will think twice before pulling a BS move like that.

I did love hearing, "You'll Never Walk Alone" near the end of the game. Hearing that at the start of Liverpool games is one of the most chill inducing sporting events there is. It's on my bucket list to go to a Liverpool game some day.

On players, I concur down the line also.

Lallana was blasé. Firmino didn't rise to the occasion. I think he needs Salah for his magic to come out. The front 3 are great and we need to keep them. But, also need a better backup who can maybe move back and forth in mid-field. Too bad Oxlade-Chamberlain is out for so long. He was really playing well this year. Killer for England as well. Also concur on the defense. Amazing how solid it has become. Lovren's play was great. I love Van Dyke.

I didn't even include Ox in my little roster analysis. He's been someone I've completely glossed over at times this season. You'd want to see more of him and less of Milner in that hybrid / swiss army knife role next season. He's an example of the kind of depth player we need as he can play multiple positions for you and he will die trying. Loves the team.

    That look alike is scary!

Man, I love Juergen Klopp. And, admittedly, he's hot (I don't go that way, but if I did ... ;) ).

That video is the best! Thanks for posting!

    Fabinhooooooooooooooooooo

6 foot 2, 24 year old, Monaco man. Brazilian. 40m pounds plus. Clear replacement for Emre Can. A bit sad that we don't get anything in return for Can leaving. But it is what it is. Fabinho. The first signing of what promises to be several. Fekir.... Lamar...Allison Becker...? Word is we'll add another by the end of the week. This Fabinho move caught a lot off guard. Many had him going elsewhere and out of our reach. This just in, players actually want to join us now... A beautiful time to be with LFC.

Nabil Fekir all but confirmed at this point. A left footed replacement for Coutinho. We have a lot of lefties on the team now.

ugh.... medical issue apparently sprung up, although they went for a second opinion and passed. Then apparently wanted a reduced fee?

Man, been so busy since the final and just got back from vacation. I agree with everything yall have been talking about. Got so unlucky in Final, **** RAMOS!! The one thing I think of in that game was the only thing that RM exposed was our lack of depth, but have every confidence in Klopp to fix that. The Fabinho signing is a very good one I think, a clear upgrade from Can. I was so excited about the Fekir news on Friday that I got sick Saturday and didn't do much web browsing. Imagine my surprise when I check my Liverpool sites and see it fell through :smackhead:. Oh well **** happens, hopefully it doesn't turn into Liverpools own Drew Brees medical hahaha. But again I trust FSG and Klopp, they are doing what is right for the club.

Read that Allison wants his transfer sorted before WC, so hopefully we somehow pull his signing off. Though I know they won't overpay, which is a good thing. We need the smart buys, not the super flashy ones (well okay maybe 1 hahaha).

My tickets for the United match at the Big House should be in the mail sometime next week. So excited, taking my son. Got seats 5 rows up from the pitch, in the supporters section. Kiddo has no clue either, gonna be a surprise for doing well in school last year.

He's been asking for a new jersey since he's worn his old one out a bit hahaha. Stalling so I can get him one of the new ones at the match!! I'll be sure to post tons of photos next month after the match!!

I think we might go back in for Fekir after the WC... that's what Paul Joyce said and he seems to be the one the most switched on... more than the Echo writers. It appears Shaqiri is a possibility as well and he's not an alternative to Fekir which is good. I'd also like to see more of TAA in the FK specialist role. He's been doing it in the England warm up matches.
