I saw a mock draft that had us taking Hurst at 11. That would not disappoint me at all! This guy is an absolute beast. He is the closest thing to watching Warren Sapp!

Wouldn't be terrible, but not great either. I wasn't very impressed watching his tape compared to some of the other DTs. Plus I think he has some sort of medical issue.

Heart "condition"...fully cleared by Drs. Was PFFs highest ranked defensive PLAYER at any position in 2017. Kid has an incredible motor...very quick off the ball.

I think you're onto something here.

In the wake of the first two waves of free agency, it's becoming clear that the Dolphins will take either Da'Ron Payne, Maurice Hurst, or Taven Bryan if their quarterback of choice is off the board. To release Suh for such a small cap saving tells us that Miami really likes one or two of the DT prospects (likely) or has a tremendous amount of faith in Phillips, Godchaux, and Taylor.

My money is on the former. We need to continue to get younger at DL, anyway.

I'd be a little nervous drafting a kid with a heart condition. Remember Nick Fairley? In this year's draft, there is a lot of talent at the top half of the draft. I would simply just pick someone else.

I like Hurst better than Payne. Less than Vea.

If they go DT at 11, Vea is the guy I'm most interested in. I would be happy with him or Edmunds at Lb at 11 and the way Qb's look like they are going to be coming off the board, one or both of those guys should be there.

Granted I've only watched a few games of each player but I don't agree with PFFs draft rankings this year. For example they have chubb ranked way below harold landry, which is ridiculous in my opinion.

From what I've seen of this years DT class my own personal ranking would be 1.Daron Payne 2. Tim Settle 3. Vita Vae 4. Maurice Hurst 5. Tavyn Bryan

There are alos some small school prospects with big upside like dedrin senat who could be had in the later rounds. I personally would not go DT at 11.

I'm not an X's and O's kinda guy, but isn't Vita Vea essentially a nose tackle in the mold of Jordan Phillips?

That's a good question. I am no expert nor do I have practical experience, but from what I have read about him, Vea can play in an odd or even front. I think he has the speed to be a 1 gap player and if we switch things around he has the size for 2 gap. I am not sure who we will end up with, and if Hurst will be there if we trade back, but he does have an awesome 1st step where he seems to capitalize on splitting the gaps. I am guessing most prefer the sheer size of someone like Vea, but I prefer a quick penetrator like Hurst because it seems more disruptive. As we all know, QB's don't like pressure up the middle. As for Vea, I would suspect he would be a great run stuffer. He's a BIG dude, if he gets his hands on you, you're going down. I wouldn't be upset at all if we drafted Hurst and snagged a LB too. I like one of my alums, Shaquem Griffin. I think a lot like Josey Jewell for his smarts and preparation, but I like Griffin's speed and tenacity. I am not sure who we should take over the other.

I used that comparison myself.. good looking prospect and if I had strong interest in a d tackle he’d be right there.

Man TI I would be disappointed in both of them..for different reasons..

Vea because I dont think we need a nose tackle no matter how good and Edmunds because I don’t see good enough instincts to risk the 11th pick

Well with losing Suh in the middle I think Vea would make a solid replacement. Edmunds is young but i would love to have a lb that could finally cover a TE. That's my thinking anyway.

Not really. He could be, but he's a 4-3 DT. He's a three technique or a one gap penetrator.

I think Phillips is more a one shade

    Ideal fit wise

I don’t see a fit in our scheme for shaqueem griffin.

I was interested Day 3 as a core special teamer and compete for snaps on d but the combine put his value into day 2 and that’s too rich for me.

I think you are right about Griffin, Hoops. Thanks for reigning me in. I like him, but we shouldn't take him too early.
