Warner To Be Named Starter/UPDATE: No Decision Made.

Chris Mortensen reports that the Cardinals are expected to name Kurt Warner the starter. Many questioned Leinarts arm strength coming out and the report says that the team has questions about Leinart's arm strength. Leinart has been inconsistent this pre-season and the report says that he was inconsistent in training camp as well. This came out after Leinart completed only four of twelve attempted passes in the last pre-season game against the 49ers (I think it was them), while Warner completed 2 of 4 passes. Many say that the team give Warner a low amount of reps so they don't risk an injury with him. Also, because they wanted to see what Leinart brought to their team. This doesn't look too good for Leinart. I don't know if this move is a good one or a bad one for them. Seems like a little bit of both.

Warner becomes a must have for fantasy teams lacking a QB. Throws a lot of TD's with a great supporting cast of 2 elite WR's, a budding young duo of TE's, solid OL, and a dependable RB. I just didn't think Leinart was the right fit for the Cards offense. With a team like that you need a prolific passer.

Exactly. Warner threw I think 21 touchdowns in the final seven games last year which was a league high. I find it as a positive and a negative because Warner can do everything you ask him to do and can help your team win games. On the downside of all this, Leinart has another 'setback' in his career and his confidence goes down a notch with this. We all know how important confidence is to a young guy so it'll be interesting to see how Leinart takes this. I find it surprising though because all reports said that Leinart looked very good in camp but apparently the Cardinals didn't feel the same way.

I was just getting ready to post this and make a snarky remark that I beat Alen to it but I guess not. :pity:

This too me this is surprising as Leinart has played well this preseason until the Oakland game but there has to be something else going on here. I think Leinart's head isn't in the game but is in other places such as the social scene and he better get it together quick.

Indeed. The only concern about Warner is his high turnover rate (int/fumble). But if you're in a league where it doesn't punish you heavily, there should be no reason Warner's still around.

Forget Warner even to some degree. Now I'm relieved and I will draft the WR core accordingly.

Unfortunately this makes them a much better team in week 2 against us when we go to visit them. With Leinart this was a win.

I've learned to start WR's and QB's on my fantasy team whenever they play us. Not what I want to see but better have some good come out of it I guess.

    Yup. No doubt.

One of the players in our league drafted him in the 14th round. He was a certain pick for me the next round. But he took an earlier flyer on him. Now he'll reap the benefits of it.

Hahaha. I had him last year and I vowed to never take him again.

Weren't you saying that he would lead the Cardinals to the NFC West crown and this would be his breakout year?

Wow seems like the coaching staff is trying to send a message to Leinart. I was really big on him when he came out, I really thought he would be a very good Qb. Can't ask for a better offense to be in for a Qb. I do think Warner is a solid Qb, he gets a bad rap but he's still a decent Qb if you give him time to throw.

Interesting. Ultimately though, I think Ken is NOT high on Leinart at all. He WILL go with whatever QB will win him a game on sunday, nothing else. If Leinart doesnt get much work this season they will shop him and be looking for a high draftee in the offseason.

I do think Warner earned the job with his play in the latter part of last year. Leinart really needed to play great in the preseason, Warner was really good last year.

I think they're torn on him. They think he has leadership and can be a good Quarterback but they quesiton his accuracy which leads to a lack of confidence in him. I thought Pete Carroll pointed out one interesting thing about Leinart. When asked about the situation, he said Leinart will not do you any good at practice. Hearing that, I'm thinking that can't be any good. Then he says if Leinart is a backup on a team, he won't do good. But insert him in the starting lineup and he will be a good QB for you. So now, I'm like ok, he's a good QB when he's starting but when he isn't, does he have a lack of work ethic?

Some people just play better when the pressures on, could me Matt is one of em. Still, he is not Whise's guy, bottom line. They will likely give him a shot, but they are not beholden to making him work or attached to him as he is not "their" guy.
Like I said, they may look to move him for some picks and grab their own guy this draft. However, if that is the plan, I DO question why they didnt go after someone in this past draft. I dunno, its just shaping up into an odd situation.
Seeing as how its Warner though, I think leinart gets his chance sooner or later :wink2:

He sucks. If you go back and watch him in college you'll see cracks in his amazing resume. Look at his true accuracy. The ball is rarely in the right spot and he's not a fluid player.
