Reshad Jones is one of the highest paid safeties in the league, and he signed his current contract after a year in which he was injured, IIRC.

    Correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't pay much attention to NBA contracts and salaries, could you explain your Steph Curry example a little bit more? From what I gather, he's the highest paid player in the NBA.

Good signing. Gives you an extra year to find his replacement and allows Tannehill to have all his needed weapins

Landry is the 16th wide receiver to ever get the franchise tag. 10 of those 16 have left the team the following season for nothing.

Better get the phones ready if we dont have an offer by the trade deadline

Well, I'm hoping what this really means is they are buying time for a proper extension. 16 Million for him as much as I love having him in Miami, is not a sound decision. I still am hopeful they can trade Parker for a 3rd or something. Pouncey too for that matter.

It feels like they are looking to trade him. Better to get something for him, then see him walk for nothing. A late first or early round second would help ease the sting of seeing him go. Say "No!" if it is the Pats calling though.

FWIW, I just heard on NFLN that the Titans may be working on a deal to get Landry.

Unless Landry is willing to sign a long term contract for around $10 million a year, there is no way he will be on the Dolphins roster much longer. Since I do not believe he is willing to sign with the Dolphins for that type money, I expect him to be traded in the very near future.

The Dolphins only made him their franchise player so they would be able to get something in return for him. They will likely get a second round pick for him or perhaps a third round pick but they will not get a first round pick for him from any team in the NFL, IMO.

On MSN it is being reported that the Saints and Panthers are two teams interested in trading for Landry.

Panthers I can understand. Saints would be a little bizarre considering they traded away a much more dangerous receiver in Brandin Cooks not too long ago.

What does OBJ want to do? Cripple his team?

If Landry wants to keep pace/compete with his friend in terms of money then he may never win a championship.

I think you overrate the championship part. Championships matters to fans and winners.

Most athletes will be fine with just having all the money they can get.

Not that its a huge surprise, but Ian Rapoport just instatweeted that the Fins gave Landry and his crew permission to seek out a trade.

If I'm the Giants, I'm trading him immediately. There is nothing that man can do that is worth $20 million per. It also shows you where his priorities are at.

Landry doesn't fall far from that brand of tree either. Over-value their own egos.

If we can get the bears pick Tannebaum’s job just got saved by pure luck.

I honestly feel there should be other players made available for picks. We need to clean up the roster a little bit, too many bad contracts.

If landry is gone we need to package him with something else for a top 5 pick for Mayfield. No reason to start trading for 2nd rounder's move your first rounder #11 landry and whatever else to any of the top 5 teams should be enticing.

I like your thinking, but if we're moving to top 5, it better be for Darnold, Rosen, or Chubb.

Truthfully doubt were in on the QB market.. think all the talk is just a smoke screen and Gases is a RT secret admirer, And the Landry and "whatever else" sounds nice until you find out what the "whatever else" actually is..if they were trying to get top 5.
Now if the right QB were to fall to 11 that might create a whole new ball game of decision making. (but highly doubt that happens.)

At this point in time the Bears sound like the most logical at having realistic possibilities.
One they can get the money, 2 they have 2 complementary WR and Landrys in the slot is what they could really use.
Now trading 1st not enough they are only three picks above us at 8.
They do though have a 2nd rdr at 39, bingo..... Thats got to be it. They have no 3 rdrs... and forget about 4th (I hope).

Browns are also intriguing. Not their 1st rdrs, but they have two second rd picks, 33 and 35. They also could use a WR...
And they have the most cap space of all teams in the NFL...110 mil.

Trouble is we’d be lucky to use him in a bundle to get into the top 10, let alone the top 5.
The reason to trade for Landry is to give your QB a weapon he can use.
The reason why a team has a top 5 pick is because they don’t have a QB.

Maybe the Browns would consider Landry as part of a package for the #4 overall, but only if they had a QB they were in love with at #1.
The Colt’s D is in disarray and they don’t know for sure if/when Andrew Luck is coming back. SomI can’t see them handing over their #3 for what would be a luxury item for them.
After that then you get to the Bears and 49ers at #8 and #9 who actually have QBs

I honestly think there’s that possibility we pull the tag and let him go test the market himself. And i think he will be humbled by the offers, and theres a difference in playing for in a city like miami than anywhere else.

the dolphins cap situation is barely healthy and they need to move on. Robert Quinn is a great start, we still need some linemen and a cornerback. Possibly Malcom Butler?

#Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry is accepting the franchise tag and signing it imminently, source said. Based on talks with several interested teams, he's being viewed as a No. 1. WR. Signing locks him in with DeAndre Hopkins & Antonio Brown above $16M. Let the trade talks heat up

" Ian Rapoport and Pro Football Talk both indicated the proposed Bears trade was not even valid, and this was later backed up by former scout Greg Gabriel. So what exactly is going on?

The truth is this entire situation may be a carefully crafted exploitation of the rumor mill by Miami to stoke the fires of “reported” interest in Landry. The truth is far different. A source informed me that the Dolphins are negotiating from a weakened position and they know this. Not only is Landry not generating a ton of interest, but Miami is hampered even more by other factors.

“THE PUSH IS COMING FROM MIAMI PUTTING OUT WHO IS AND ISN’T INTERESTED BUT THERE AIN’T AS MUCH INTEREST AS REPORTED.

THE FEELING IS A TAGGED PLAYER BEING TRADED IS HE’S A RENTAL AND SEVERAL TEAMS ARE WARY OF THAT.

CLEVELAND AND SAN FRANCISCO WILL NOT WASTE ANY OF THEIR PICKS. THE BEARS DON’T WANT TO WASTE PICKS EITHER. BALTIMORE COULD BE DESPERATE ENOUGH BECAUSE OF HOW THE SEASON ENDED AND THE NEED OF OFFENSE.”

That isn’t the only issue for Miami. They’ve been hemmed in by their own mistakes. Their recent trade for defensive end Robert Quinn has put their salary cap in a bad situation. Well into the red. This means they have to shed salary if they’re even going to fit him onto the roster. Landry, who plans to sign the tag next week, may actually be forcing their hand.

My source confirmed this much. Teams around the league know how strapped Miami is for cash and how desperate they are to trade Landry. This puts them in a superior negotiating position. They could just choose to sit back and wait, forcing the Dolphins to either work their way under the cap likely at great cost or rescind the tag and let Landry walk.

“ONCE IT’S SIGNED THERE’S NO GOING BACK. TEAMS WILL LOWBALL THEM AND THEY’LL BE STUCK WITH LANDRY.”

This means the Bears don’t have to do anything. They can sit back and wait. Either the price to acquire Landry will drop as the season gets closer or they can prepare a strong free agent push once Miami removes the tag, making him a free agent. This comes down to GM Ryan Pace. Is he that desperate or can he stay patient? We shall see."

Eh none of this is really surprising at this point. Teams attempting to trade a tagged player are always in a bad negotiating spot and are more or less just taking a flyer and crossing fingers. I'd be surprised if we don't just drop the tag and let him go - Landry saying he will sign it is likely an attempt by his camp to force the issue and either get him a long term deal here asap or let him hit the FA market quickly while teams still have spending money. Letting him play on the franchise tag was always a bad idea, even before we traded for Quinn. Unless we are really close to a deal with him (seems unlikely) then we just pull it and let him walk.

Landry is as good as gone. He wants too much money and no one will pay him what he wants. It seem she's too stubborn to believe this reality.

Miami will rescind the tag and Landry will most likely be gone for a mid-round pick. What's (not) so funny is Landry will most likely sign on to another team for about what Miami offered, but the bridges are slowly getting burned and I think Landry would do that just to spite the Dolphins. I hate this, but it is what it is.

I can see someone like Nick Foles asking for a $100M contract after winning the Super Bowl and playing a darn-near perfect game when it mattered the most. But a guy on a 6-10 team with great hands that can't get separation? It's just not realistic....especially when you factor in that he was thrown out of his last game for fighting (and then blamed it all on the other guy afterwards instead of being a man and apologizing).

I like Landry a lot, but the guy belongs in the 5-8M/year range maximum. It kills me though that these greedy, selfish players make these ridiculous demands- there's nothing in the world he could do with $15M/year that he couldn't do with half that. This all comes down to ego and that's exactly why he was thrown out of his last game as well. If I were the GM, I would rescind the franchise offer, cut him completely, and then grab my 2nd/3rd round compensation pick to be done with this.
