Some people have been wondering about coaching changes on the defensive side of things. ... "Miami Dolphins: Sources tell FootballScoop that defensive line coach Terrell Williams has been let go. Williams has previously coached the defensive line with the Raiders, and prior to that was at the college level at Texas A&M, Purdue, Akron, Youngstown State, and a few other stops." Albert Breer ✔ @AlbertBreer " The Dolphins are trying to hire well-regarded Lions DL coach Kris Kocurek after receiving permission to interview him. Kocurek coached Dolphins star Ndamukong Suh for five years in Detroit. "
Its a start but imtelling you I want Burke demoted or replaced. I know everyone wants to give him a change I don't he learned under Vance and he blew as a DC coordinator IMHO and I didnt like this years defense either on the whole. I want a proven DC for this team or were going to never win the East. Every playoff team left has a great defense. New Englands is the worst still in it, but they have Brady and a potent offense to counter.
Like I said of those still left in the playoffs New England has the worse Defense remaining. 1. Vikings 2. Jaguars 3. Broncos 4. Eagles 5. Steelers 16. Dolphins The Patriots rank 29th in total yards allowed. Brady and Gronk are the only reasons that team can win games. http://www.nfl.com/stats/categoryst...OTAL_YARDS_GAME_AVG&d-447263-o=1&d-447263-n=1
If you're using "yards allowed" you're not really going to prove anything. Case in point in that yards allowed has the Dolphins defense ranked higher. At the beginning of the season when the defense was giving up a lot of points the Pats went 2-2. How did Gronk and Brady allow that to happen? lol The Pats have the 5th best defense in the league.
I’ve made my opinion clear on who I wanted as DC and that was Wade Phillips. Well he went to the Rams so it is what it is. I’m willing to give Burke another shot next year but as he’s cleaning out the position coaches that belonged to Vance Joseph, this will be HIS defense. His complete responsibility and if he fails I’ll be the first reaching for the axe. Unlike some of you, I’m looking at the LONG game and a Dolphins dynasty and those aren’t built overnight.
While I agree with some of your statements. Im so tire dof being asked to wait for a playoff caliber / competitive team. Its seems every year it's groundhogs day around here. I don't want to have to wait for a coordinator to learn / go through growing pains anymore. Once the defense gets good our offense will suck and vise versa. I know it's not realistic but I just want to buy a team that wins!
Exactly. The only thing that matters for defense is points allowed. Takeaways is second. The Patriots have had one of the best defenses in the NFL after week 4.
Yep. And I'd even say it's a safe bet that their defense, if you don't factor in their bad first month of the season, are giving up top 3 points allowed. The Pats defense has been elite since 2001 sans a season or two.
What I did not like is that we played the defense the right way against Patriots by pressing. i thought for sure he would see how great the defense played and stay that way, but not he reverted back to the old ways. Heck in the patriots game at the end he reverted back and it almost cost us. I'm ok if he is gone.
You're no different than any other Dolphins fan. We ALL want our team to be the dominate team in the league, but with the disappointment of this season due to unexpected injuries, many are resorting to the woe is me mentality or the Gase Sucks mentality instead of being realistic. Gase came in and took a 6-10 team and turned it around. He showed us we have a team that is indeed talented. This season however, we lost too many key positions and had too many holes to keep the boat afloat. You can't fault him for that but one good thing, if you try to look for the good, is it was a wake up call for the remainder of the team. With the coaching changes being made and being made rather quickly in the offseason and the anticpated return of Tannehill, McMillian and God only knows what we're going to land in the draft, I'm actually quite optimistic about next year...provided nothing catastrophic happens between now and then. Taking a closer look at next year's schedule and basing the team's performance during 2016, I'm actually seeing 10 and MAYBE 11 wins in 2018. The Patriots' days are numbered.
How much credit does Williams deserve for the emergence of a guy like Godchaux? Taylor showed flashes of belonging in the NFL too, in his limited action. I don't think Williams was a bad DL coach, just looking at how our young defensive linemen have developed, but this may have been looked at as a chance to upgrade the staff, as it was with Studesville. Could be we replaced two middling positional coaches with two who are like top 5 at their positions.
your probably right. I really haven't much of an idea when it comes to these positional coaches unless when I get to see some of them in action on the practice field...I based my assumption of him on a bunch of interviews, but its just that, a useless assumption.
