Remind me again, how big of a lead did that much improved defense give up in the final game. Is this really a debate?

If you watched them play instead of googling box scores it is. Atlanta had a very young and improving defense over the course of the '16 season.

Is Phillip Rivers a HOFER? Roethlisberger? Because if they are, and imo, they are, Eli is too. Eli is ahead of both in yards and 3 behind Rivers in TD top 10 all time in both. And hes never had the offensive talent either had. There was not HOF back or TE like Gates or Tomlinson. There was no HOF WR or RB like Ben had from Ward, Brown and Bell. He had good players who had careers derailed like Cruz and Nicks but they had very short windows. Plunkett may be the only 2x winner not in the HOF but Eli will not only get in, he will be in by, at worst 2nd ballot.

Here's a graph of average points scored per season, the region within which 95% of teams were by points scored, and how many points the SB winner scored in the SB:

So only 8 out of 51 SB winners scored fewer than league average points per game in the SB.

Point For also accounts for defensive and ST scores, it's not indicative of strictly offensive production.

    Same goes for these numbers.

I agree it's more likely than not that he'll get in, but I don't think it's certain. Like I said.. all someone needs to do is make an argument using adjusted stats and it's another story. And at some point someone will make that argument because if you don't adjust stats, then you're going to start admitting a LOT of barely above average guys into the HoF. Whether Eli came early enough so that such a debate won't impact him (especially with the 2 SB which need no adjustment) we'll find out.

Well, I would have to say this...

-In 2016, Tannehill was 8-5 as a starter before going down with his knee injury.
-Eight of those wins came on a 6 game winning streak after the Dolphins started 1-4
-Tannehill posted his best QB rating for the season with a 93.5
-His average gain per pass attempt was at a career high of 7.7 yards per attempt

And those are just "numbers". The intangibles of being able to take a team on your shoulders and win 6 games in a row after starting 1-4? That's incalculable!!!! At 1-4, the Dolphins were all but written off after the beginning of the season but the team never quit!

I've said this a few times already but the hatred against Tannehill for THIS season's failure just astounds me. I could understand it if it was Ryan Tannehill under center this season and we finished 6-10, but DAMN, it was Jay Cutler, NOT Tannehill.

For my example, I knew that. I was trying to be nice to Tannehill by including the entire 22.7 PPG. It's actually worse when you account for defensive and special teams points. Helps my case, but I didn't want to do the math.

Good points. We also had Ajayi running pretty well then as well. I don't blame Tannehill for this year. I just hate seeing these other qbs "get it" in such a short time while it looks like Tannehill has stayed exactly the same. Kinda like how the Dolphins are pretty much the same every year.

You don't have a case when you're attempting to apply all the responsibilities of offensive production to a single position, while ignoring all other factors.

Remember, the original question I answered from the OP was "when was the last time a Qb not named Brady, Brees, or Rodgers made it to the super bowl with a bad defense?". I gave the example. He acknowledged he forgot about that terrible defense. Im still wondering what we are debating.

Does Tannehill not lead the offense? If not, why is he paid $100 mil? What am I missing? Did I say he was solely responsible? I don't recall saying that.

'16 Falcons defense was pretty damn good and improved vastly over the course of the year. You're simply using an inaccurate box score average that encompasses the entire year and does not show who they truly were to finish out the season.

Good point, if I’m paying anybody 100 million at any business, best believe they will be the ones always being looked at.

Tannehill should of only took 50-60 million if he didn’t want to be “the man”... I wish he did, his contract holds us back and he doesn’t live up to it.

You're measuring Tannehill by the DOLPHINS record and not by Tannehill's performance itself. This is a quarterback who has broken franchise records...records previously held by Marino including...

-Most passing completions in a season (392)
-Most passing completions in a rookie season (282)
    -Highest completion percentage, career (62.2%)
-Highest completion percentage in a single season (66.4%)
-Most passing yards in a rookie season (3294 yards)
-Most passing attempts in a rookie season (484)
-Most consecutive pass completions (25..also NFL record)

Tannehill's quarterback play has not been an issue. He's reliable, consistent and accurate. What has made everyone question Tannehill was the playcalling by Joe Philbin. I mean seriously, what happened after Philbin was fired? Miami goes from 6-10 to 10-6 and a playoff appearance.

I understand your frustration seeing some of these younger quarterbacks making it and Tannehill hasn't but that's more of an indication of the front office and the coaching staff than the individual players themselves. It all starts from the top down and unfortunately it took Stephen Ross to un-eff what was eff'd up when he bought the team.

What are you on right now? Let’s revisit the 2016 playoffs...

    They beat Seattle 36-20

    They beat the Packers 44-21

They lost to the Patriots 34-28

Their offense was CLEARLY the reason why they were successful in the playoffs and their defense was far from “pretty damn good”.... cmon man stop grasping at straws.

More box score scouting at it's finest. Both Seattle and Green Bay scored meaningless TDs in the waning moments of those games, and the Falcons D is responsible for a pick 6 score in the SB. And while they are also an integral part of the SB collpase, Atlanta's offense couldn't move the ball effectively in the 2nd half either and was subject to short drives and 3&outs.

Their trip through the post season was at 25 ppg? Hmmmm, something in this milk isn’t quite right...

BTW, a football game is 60 minutes... not 55, not 52, not 48 but 60.... what happens inside those 60 minutes is all an indictment on the team... I don’t use “garbage time” ever... if I’m a coach, I don’t care if I’m up or down 100 Points, I’m gonna keep calling plays with the goal to score in the best way I know how.

I take it you credit the Dolphin's offense this year for those couple of TD drives in the last few minutes when it had no bearing on the outcome of the game whatsoever. That's weak.

Okay, let’s do this and your about to look real bad but you got it Champ!!!

Here is games after their bye week

    7-8-1 Arizona Cardinals : (W) 38-19
    They are mediocre

    4-12 Los Angeles Rams : (W) 42-14
    Terrible team, atrocious offense

    2-14 San Francisco 49ers : (W) 41-13
Horrible, horrible offense... god awful team

    12-4 KC Chiefs : (L) 29-28
Funny.... they finally face a good team and not only give up 29 but also lose while the O posted 28 points... should of been good enough to get the job done with a “pretty damn good” defense.

    6-10 Carolina Panthers : (W) 33-16
Mediocre to bad team and terrible offense

    7-9 New Orleans Saints : (W) 38-32
Average team but Drew Brees was able to expose that D after weeks of average to terrible teams and weeks of HORRIBLE offenses.

In conclusion, you hid strength of schedule and all I see is them playing a plethora of bad teams but the offense always did their part meanwhile the D looked bad against actual offenses.....

    Also in conclusion, your argument.

No one wants to adjust stats for era when i keep telling people Marino was the GOAT so no one is doing it for Eli. And if youve watched every game of Eli's career, as i have, you wouldnt classify him as barely above average.

By your logic, what’s the point of the Patriots playing the second half of 2017 SB?

Or Minnesota last drive last night...

Just give up. Your out of the game. Lol

You have what I like to call... “a quitters mentality”

A football game is 60 mins.... FACT

Tired of overpaid athletes quitting during a game. I love the ones that play the duration ALL THE WAY through.

Even worse, fans who hate effort such as yourself.

I think every time I've compared QB's across eras, including Marino to guys like Peyton or Rodgers, I've adjusted stats (unless the stats don't need to be adjusted for era.. like win% or SB's.. though those can be adjusted for other factors like defense). Regardless, I'm talking about what the people who decide who gets into the HoF will do. At some point they'll have to take era into consideration or too many will get into the HoF. When that argument becomes prominent.. who knows.

Warner has a black eye in NY but it’s because the OL couldn’t support his style of play. Warner was used to long developing plays in Martz’s offense and the Giants tried to implement that but it wasn’t sustainable. Manning had a lot of those same issues after Warner was benched that year. Overall, I thought Warner was tremendous and he almost duplicated his success in Arizona.
