    "Predatory" lootboxes. lol

This is getting out of hand. RNG rewards systems are legitimate gaming mechanisms. Drop chances have been a part of games for three decades.

I’m with you for the most part...I guess what has me worried is how EA tried to put a full free to play..pay to win system with paywalls and all the frustration that comes with that monetization model into Star Wars BF2. I was pretty ignorant of the issue when I got Shadow of war and did not get what the big deal was.. but now understanding if it was modeled similarly to BF2 how much that would have sucked I am concerned since this is my hobby.

EA shutting down some great gaming studios and seemingly destroying some great franchises like mass effect because they can’t make “Fifa” money the industry could be going in a very wrong direction..especially since EA has tried to buy studios like rock star etc.

A little long but worth the watch imo.

You have got to be ****ing kidding me...this **** is insidious.

    https://www.rollingstone.com/glixel...chmaking-tricks-to-sell-in-game-items-w509288

For anyone that doesn’t quite get the ramifications of this the article gives the “nice” version of this application...now if you take a more realistic/pessimistic view of it imagine this..player X just spent 40$ buying crates because his ice gun hasn’t been doing well because all he seems to fight is players with ice armor. Now he has a shiney new laser gun! Enters the Q...now all he plays against are players with laser armor!...bummer time to try for that acid gun..

But since the engine knows he wants an acid gun it drops the % for him to .00001 and he spends a ridiculous amount of money with basically (or literally) no chance at the weapon..nice huh?

I feel really bad for this and the next gen of gamers...with these bean counters in charge and all the apathy/ignorance from a lot of the community the industry is morphing into something quite different than the one I got to enjoy.

This guy sums it up pretty well

And for people playing fifa and madden if you don’t think something like this is running in the background to entice you to buy card packs...you might want to think again.

This nonsense has absolutely worsened, if not ruined, many games, I agree. I don't play online at all, and the online portions have taken all of the attention from the studio for some games, and too much of it from others.

I boycotted both Madden and MLB The Show this year because they did absolutely nothing to improve single player offline franchise, the only reason that I play the game. Mass Effect's issues were wide ranging, but one of them was certainly trying to cram the online aspect into the game, same as they had the previous one. One of my favorite series for 20 years, Gran Turismo, put out a colossal failure this year after they grossly underestimated how little the devoted fans of the series were interested in an online only game.

Like you, gaming is my hobby. For me, its my only hobby. I play games, offline by myself, and I want to continue to be able to do that. I'm thankful that single player games continue to be financial successes, and that there are enough people like me to keep some of them going, but every year there are fewer and fewer options out there.

I've even had to give up on some of the gaming news websites that I visit, because every other story, if not more, are not only about competitive online gaming, but about "Esports", which I care about as much about as I do intermural flag football at some middle school.

I’ve delved fairly deep into ME A and when you find out what they did to Bioware and that franchise it makes your blood boil.. short version EA took the bioware “A” team and had them work on a cooperative shooter trying to have them create the ultimate micro transaction machine (what a sad end to a great developer) then had the “B” team work on ME A with an engine unfit for an rpg the team spent more than half the development time making the tools necessary etc..just pathetic.

These AAA companies with the best licenses are spending all of their R&D money on psychology and algorithms to drive micro transactions not to make better games..that canceled Star Wars single player game looked and sounded amazing but with no MT model they (EA) canceled it..So not only are they trying to turn everything into a giant mobile game slot machine they are destroying some possibly great games along the way.

I never figured I would be rooting for the government to step in but for me it is by far the lesser of 2 evils..before the next generation doesn’t even realize that games aren’t supposed to suck.

I don’t have much of a social media presence but I am doing what I can keep the conversation going.

Thankfully Bioware isn't totally dead yet. Even though they're still losing good people, Dragon Age 4 is still in development, and hopefully they've been able to convince EA that they need to get it right after what happened to ME:A.

But yes, I totally agree that they're intentionally destroying and/or cancelling good games to go with ones full of MT instead, and it sickens me as well.

Right now, our hopes depend on smaller foreign studios staying independant and putting out good products, such as CRPR (Poland)and Guerrila (Netherlands). Bethesda is still out there too, but they seem to have their heads up their rear ends at the moment.

They aren’t dead yet but they got poisoned the moment EA purchased them..I had some hope for a while and I still have a little hope for DA 4 but it’s pretty faint...and just the fact that the Bioware A team is working on this micro transaction monstrosity “Anthem” a 4 person looter/shooter instead of an rpg is just sad.

Read this all the way to the bottom..seems like Chris Lee certainly “gets it”.

All we can do is boycott all this BS and support the good games that don't do this garbage. It's just nuts that they think gamers will fall for this.

Well, DA4 is the very top of my list, whenever it does come out, but I won't be doing anything online with it other than downloading DLC.

I'm glad you still find enjoyment in the Dragon Age universe. I felt Inquisition was bland beyond belief. And I actually enjoyed DA2.

We're all different! For me, though I always of course want even more, it was precisely what I want a video game to be, and I am so excited to see where they take the series next. They say that they actually have an outline for the next three games laid out, if they're given a chance to make them.

The game's look, mechanics, interface, difficulty level, ect were all just what's right for me, and it was deep enough, and with enough story, that on my second playthrough I believe I put in about 130 hours, with none of that wasted milling around or aimlessly exploring.

I had then hoped that ME:A would pick up on that and take it to the next level in its universe. However, they apparently first started with something akin to No Man's Sky, spent years on it, fought about it, then scrapped the entire thing and scrambled to create what we ended up with in the last year to 18 months before release. Had they simply taken that road from Day One, I wonder what an amazing experience we may have had (or at least, I would have had) within the ME universe as well.

As it stands, I remain hopeful that Bioware feels that they absolutely need to get DA4 right given the likely loss of their other property, that they'll make certain that it meets and exceeds the expectations of the community when it does come out.

    We are definitely all different.
I LOVED DA:O, and have hated every single DA game since.
I loved ME1 and ME2. ME3 was okay, and the last one SUCKED.

Ha! This guy Lee is great... “sense of pride and accomplishment” quote is classic that and the “it’s a trap!” From the first one are a great wink/nod to gamers.

As of yesterday, I've joined the Broadband World, but I still have little to no interest in most online gaming. And certainly nothing where I would pay to do better at anything. I want great games, and then expansion packs that add onto the single player story.
