Burke is mad at some players and is publicly calling them out. Now even the coach is saying Kiko sucks which is something I have been saying since last season. Thank you tbaum for overpaying this guy. The wake criticism I don't agree with, he missed one sack, he is still one of the best pass rushers in the league. His play is not a problem. Harris and branch are the problem, not wake. http://dailydolphin.blog.palmbeachp...urke-offers-blunt-criticism-of-3-key-players/
Eh I don’t have a problem with that. He wasn’t derogatory in his criticism. He said kilos generally good for 55 plays a game but the 5 he’s missing has hurt the team, and he’s right. He cited it being about player development and being the next step in their career. Public criticism comes with the territory and spotlight of being a pro athlete and likely these are things that have been or should have been said to the payer directly anyway. However turnabout is fair play. The wide 9 sucks. It’s not a scheme I’ve ever been a fan of and I don’t believe it can work unless you run a 4-2-5 base d with two LBs that can play at the level of a Keuchly (i.e. instinctual players who have solid athletic ability and technically sound). He’s done a crappy job running it and getting payers in to position in many instances particularly with regards to Alonso so some of those failures are on Burke himself.
His 5 out of 60 rationalization was just a way for him to soften the blow and not completely throw him under the bus. Fact is it's more than 5 out of 60. Pretty much every time they throw to his guy it's a completion. He has not been able to cover anybody all season, he has been missing tackles and being made to look silly all season long. He is just not that good he has low football IQ and seems to be always out of position or a step too slow. He does play hard I will give him that, but not very smart or instinctual on a consisten basis. I do agree with you about the wide 9 though, it requires great linebacker play to work correctly on a consistent basis, and we just don't have the personnel for it.
Kiko Alonso hasn't been a good player in years, which is why the decision to fast-track a new deal for him was baffling.
During the preseason and prior to Tannehill's injury I often said the success of this team for the year was going to rest on the shoulders of Matt Burke. Our defense last year was so atrocious I was elated with Vance Joseph was lured away to the Broncos. I didn't think he had what it took to be a good defensive coordinator. I also called for Wade Phillips to be our new DC following Joseph's departure. Unlike many here, I'm a firm believer players don't truly "suck"...they are a product of their coaching and with that being said, I'm not sure the problem is with the players....Alonso, Wake, Suh, Jones or any other of our defensive players. I believe it's the defensive scheme itself. Matt Burke's defense has shown flashes of brilliance occasionally throughout the season, most notably against New England on MNF but as equally brilliant as his defense has been, it has been that horrible as well. Coaching my friends makes all the difference in the world. I just don't truly believe that Burke was ready for this level just yet. We'll have to wait and see what happens next season. Does he stay or is he replaced?
Burke is completely right in his criticism. To see Tyrod shake off Wake and complete a pass was insane. That should have been a sack. Wake is better than that.
Not only coaching but the scheme itself. For instance, if a quick RB splits out wide and your answer is to have a linebacker follow him (like we did multiple times to opponents in recent weeks with Drake), it's pretty darn hard to fault the linebacker. Some folks here have said Kiko is weak in coverage, for example...then why are we asking him to cover people in the first place? If we sent the punter out there to cover Gronk and he fails, is it really the punter's fault? It's common sense that the scheme and the coaching are bug factors on how we execute.
I also heard that Kiko always goes to the wrong room for linebacker meetings. He can't ever find the right door.
So Burke is right about Kiko because the OP has a hate hard-on for Kiko, but he's wrong about Wake because the OP has a love hard-on for Wake. And overpaying? This thread delivers... Boik saved the thread with some rational thoughts and critical thinking. Thank you, Boik. The facts are, Kiko, as Boik alluded to, has had too much put on his plate. Kiko doesn't "suck". Wake doesn't suck. etc. All players at some time deserve criticism.
Burke was a mistake to hire, the worse position coach in the league and we made him DC VJ was the worse DC in the league but Elway wanted a yes man to coach his team, now look at the Donks. Both TD's against NE were on Kiko, the first Jills drive was 80% Kiko, they picked him a part. Kiko just hits gaps, mostly the wrong gaps and then makes tackles 8-10 yards down the field. Wake, now he's one dimensional player, couldn't play the run if his life depended on it, and has whiffed more this season getting to the QB than in the past. We need multi dimensional players, not specialist, this team isn't one player away and if we keep bringing in guys that can only do part of their job correctly then we'll need to have 104 players on the sideline....
Absolutely right, most of Kikos' plays are mistakes, he has maybe 5 out of 60 that are good.... This team doesn't have a great LB on the field, so running a wide 9 is wrong, but tell that to Burke....Because he doesn't get it.
Yes, that was one missed opportunity by wake, but overall he has been playing well this season he leads the team in sacks and is still one of the leauge's best pass rushers even though he gets double teamed or chip blocked on almost every play. Wake has been pulling his weight for this defense and playing great, the other DEs like Branch and Harris are the one's who should be criticized for not playing up to their paychecks and/or draft pedigree.
This. The debate over whether the wide 9 is a viable D depends on having the right 9. Just like the 4-3 or the 3-4 or the knick knack paddywack give a dog a bone! Key to success seems to be whether coach can take his n and beat your n and then take your n and beat his n. If we aint got the peeps for da wide 9, why run it?
Exactly, it was a horrible decision by tbaum to give him a big extension when we didn't need to yet (he was still signed through this season on his old contract) and after only one season of so so play for us. Same thing with branch, we gave him a fat new contract after one mediocre season with us. Branch is only backup material in this league but is now getting paid like a quality starter.
While Alonso is a trash LB (was also horrible at Mike last year), Burke should also be calling himself out. The wide 9 isn't a defensive scheme. Never has been, never will be. The fact that we try to make it so is embarrassing and an indictment as to how incompetent our coaching staff is.
Well even Burke says Kiko sucks.. Yet the Dolphins decided they must sign this guy to an idiotic contract. Ever wonder why we haven't seen a SB in decades??? http://dailydolphin.blog.palmbeachp...ko-alonso-vs-tes-do-you-have-a-better-option/
“My stats on Kiko are probably different than a lot of people’s,” Burke said Thursday. “I don’t know. Do you have a better option you want to…?” Enough said, do you have a better option..lol, yea I do, sign someone that can play the position.
Yes, I've been saying this for quite sometime. This is the problem when you hire people that have no idea what they're doing. Burke, a position coach that was the worse in the league last year gets promoted to DC, and guilty as we've all seen of producing a D that can't play the Wide 9, yet instead of playing a D that our players can play, rams a scheme that they can't play and fails.
Remember Burke was under one of the worse DC's last year, VJ, who as we all have seen this year has failed over and over again as HC.
