When they've put up elite numbers? Yes For example: Brees first season with a rating over 100- San Diego has the 3rd best rushing offense and 11th best defense Brady has always played with a top 10 defense and superb o-lines. This year the Pats o-line has been down, but nowhere near as bad as the Dolphins and I'd say they are about average. (I just checked, they are 15th in rushing and Miami is 29th)
Also, both Wentz & Watson have had the same injuries that RT has had - how do we know that they will come back at the same level. RG3 had a brilliant first season, also had an ACL injury and never got back to his first season form - isn't he completely out of the league now? Improve the Oline & the LB's (maybe a stud DE), we will be a better team
great post. I'd rather take my chances knowing how they played vs a mediocre qb coming back from injury. You bring up a point too, just on the side, Wentz could be out the entire year next season. I wonder if they keep Foles or make a play for a qb for a couple years, like Cousins or Brees? Philly has been known to stockpile qb's recently
So how many of those elite guys are there? I would argue that as of right now there are probably 3 guys that can actually mask major holes in their team. You also bring up Philly and their model for finding the elite QB. How many 1st rd picks have they spent on QBs in the last 5 years? Same as us 1. If you are suggesting that we start to draft mid to late round QBs, I'm fine with that, but it is important to remember that Philly didn't find their "elite" QB in those picks. It was in the 1st rd pick they used. In fact, it looks like they were making a departure from their strategy of trying to find a starter in mid rounds when they made the jump to get Wentz.
Well, technically Ryan Tannehill is in fact in the "top 10" in all of those categories, so by the definition of those metrics he is in fact a "top 10" quarterback.
IMO rg3 was going to be a bust from day one and I seen it coming, because he ran too much and that's why he got hurt. your right there's no reason to think anyone cant come back from an ACL and succeed, I think wentz has a better shot at being the same than Watson just based of running, that's a key staple in Watsons game and wentz can easily become just a pocket passer. That's why I hate the idea of drafting lamar jackson, running qbs don't make it in the nfl. Dealing with RT his escaping ability is what makes his avg to below avg passing skills be masked a little, if he cant scramble and hes limited I don't know how much longer RT will be a starter, but who knows new age medicine is a wonderful thing.
Fin D argued he was top 10 just yesterday. The guy's played 5 years in this league, almost 80 starts under his belt, you can't cherry pick 8 games and claim it cements his status as a top 10 QB, that's just silly.
Running QB's don't make it? Ever heard of Russel Wilson? Fran Tarkenton? Steve Young? Aaron Rodgers? To name a few...
Yep very true. You guys are coming to Lambeau next season? You will probably whoop us once Ryan comes back.
lol...I hope so, but I seriously doubt it. Rodgers is just too good. I'm amazed that he doesn't have more rings. I guess that's more evidence that it takes more than a QB to win it all or else Green bay would win it every year.
Honestly if the only game we lost was to you guys and won the rest it wouldn't bother me. You guys are a classy team.
lol would he lose credibility in your eyes if he had? Then I posted 13 QBs better Brady Rodgers Brees Wilson Big Ben Cam Ryan Luck Rivers Carr Stafford Cousins Mariota Hell I forgot Wentz, that's 14. And before you say it's too early to put Wentz ahead of him, when a guy puts together an entire season that blows anything Tannehill has ever done or ever will do completely out the water, yes you can include him.
We found out how bad our defense is and how bad our coaching is once Rodgers went down lol. He covered up most of every bad area lol.
Mariota has more interceptions than touchdowns this season, and a passer rating below 80. Jay Cutler is having a better season that that.
I'd like to see the context in which he wrote that. That's why I asked for a link. What I've seen from FinD is that he says RT has played like a top 10 QB and especially the last half of the season last year. Which is different that saying that RT is a top 10 QB. And yes, it's too soon to make the call on Mariota (Who I'm not so sure is better anyhow), Wentz, and Goff. (I'm assuming you "forgot" him too?) Carr? Debatable. Rivers at this point? Maybe not. Luck? No. BTW, what was/is your other screen name?
He's also got that fire to be the best (especially considering all the crap he took when he took over from Favre) & elevates the play of everyone around him. He is another example of a QB taken later in the 1st Round that took his lumps early and came back to stick it to all of those that passed on him.
I never did that, nor do I say he was a top 10 quarterback. I said he PLAYED like one through most of last season. Not that he was.
Forget about age/long term, I'd take Mariota over Tannehill for 2018 alone. You could argue Alex Smith should be on my list as well.
im sorry but did the tark or steve young play with the speed and size of the nfl today? Aaron Rodgers? are you kidding me he isn't a running qb he just happens to scramble when needs to he's like putting Brady in that category he has 24 rushes in 7 games ya he is in the same category as newton and Wilson who have 114 and 81 attempts. You did forget cam newton but I guess 6'6" 265lb qbs just come into the league everyday there are rare acceptations you also forgot dak but ill move on, im not saying none make it but to say that more running qbs make it than not is a false statement its a landslide that more get hurt and flop then succeed. name a running qb who has won a superbowl not named young or Wilson? notable running qb's who flopped RG3, andre ware, vince young, kordell stewart, quincy carter, culpepper, tebow and the list goes on and on and on and on and theres Heisman trophy winners in their.
Ummmm...no. In that case, Dontari Poe is the best QB ever. He has a 100% compl rate with no INT's and a career 119 passer rating.
Tannehill's been "top 10" over two 8-game stretches in his career, once in 2014 and once in 2016, if you use passer rating. Actually in 2014 he was top 5 over that 8-game stretch so that was really the best he ever did. From games 4-11 in 2014 he had a combined 102.37 rating which would have put him #4 in the league had he done that for 16 games. From games 6-13 in 2016 he had a combined 100.13 rating which would have put him at #6 in the league had he done that the entire year. Several points: 1) 8-game stretches are meaningful in that you have well more than a total of 150 passing attempts meaning that passer rating is stable, 2) picking out an 8-game stretch from an entire year IS cherry picking, and 3) while passer rating isn't the be-all-end-all, it's pretty good at getting you a ballpark estimate of how good the QB is. So, without cherry picking Tannehill has twice demonstrated he can be a top 15 QB over an entire year, and that's where I'd place him right now.
That's fine. All I ever wanted was to see Ryan with a legit coaching staff around him. He has one now and had his best season, including a stretch where he was easily one of the better quarterbacks in the league. That's not an opinion, it's a fact. The numbers and videos have been poster numerous times by now. I expect that to continue next season if he stays healthy, so I guess we'll see what happens. Personally, I never cared for lists and rankings anyway. All I care about is playing well and winning games. Both happened last season.
Nonsense. Tark and Young played with guys relative in size and speed to what QB's are playing against now. And just because Rodgers can throw better than anyone in the league doesn't mean he's not a runner. Other than Wilson he's probably the best running QB in the league.
I agree. But again, most of the people here are saying that he has shown that he can play at a top 10 level. This is true.
Looks like I can't link club posts here. It's in the Tannehill savior thread. And I don't have another screen name on this site. How on Earth is Carr debatable? You wouldn't take Wentz and Mariota for just next season over Tannehill? Or Luck (assuming his shoulder heals up)?
