It means that he has shown an ability to play at a top 10 level for an extended period of time. It's not saying that he's a top 10 QB. It's saying that there's a good chance he may become one...especially in this offense.
I've already explained this to him. Numerous other people have explained this to him. People, who make a living dissecting QB play have laid out in detail with video, these things. None of it matters, because a guy who can't tell the difference between QBR and qb rating says so.
...and the injury, what do we do to protect ourselves against that again? he can play at a level all he wants. he isn't sustainable at top 10
video? that's the answer? There are 10 qb's right now that have better ratings than Tannehill ever had, thus not making him top 10 at all. his time is slipping away. same for gase too
I've proven he is not a top 10 qb. There is nothing you can ever post that will convince me otherwise. I also have proven that Turnstile is a waste at LT and that shedding salaries and rebuilding the trenches is the way to go. You don't seem to have a fix for this team, who is rotten to the core. Oh wait, you do...more top 10 Ryan tannehill
Look. Thill has been our starter for 5 years. In the years he played he has been average vs. the other starting QBs in the league. Sure, he's had some good games and had a good stretch after the Browns game last year where we started to get excited. However, I think the point of DL's thread is that he is not a top ten except for the occasional game. I agree and if you've been watching the games you should too. We can hold up any stat on Thill to the light and analyze it and say 100 different things. However in terms of completions yards thrown and tds Tannehill has been meh. He was less meh before he got injured.
All QB's have injuries. Brady, Rogers, Ben, Brees, Marino, etc etc etc...I'm not sure what you mean by "protect"? All teams have back-up QB's. Some teams have better back-ups than others. Most here, including FinD, have said they would be all for drafting a QB next year. However, they don't think that needs to happen in the 1st or even 2nd because RT has shown that he can play at a very high level. Worrying about injuries will get a team nowhere. They should do their best to prevent injuries, but they happen.
http://www.espn.com/nfl/statistics/player/_/stat/passing/sort/quarterbackRating/year/2016 here you go again
Do some work. I'm not clicking that and then making a counter point when you're too lazy to actually dive in on more than a surface level.
so if RT gets hurt, don't back him up with a top qb, get one in the later rounds instead? How about we just back him with Fales or Moore instead? If RT gets hurt again, and Gase doesn't have an heir to the throne for the future, he deserves to get fired in-season
I don't think you can put Watson or Wentz in the top 10 yet. They've played at a top 10 level about as much as RT has. Same with Keenum, Smith, and Goff.
No team not name New England (and that's only because I could play QB there) is too concerned about their back-up QB. Sure, they want a good one, but few have that.
have you seen the pulse of the cities of Phily, LA and Hou? They can now build their team around a franchise qb, vs having to build the perfect team around him to protect him. That is us. we need pro bowl level linemen because RT has problems playing with our line. meanwhile, any pro bowlers on the Pats line? maybe solder is one, I don't know
From ESPN: 2016 Completion % 6th Yards Per Attempt 8th Then more advanced stats for 2016 from Deep Ball Project: Deepball: Overall accuracy 20+ 64.1% 4th Accuracy on throws of 20+ 2nd (only behind Derek Carr).
There have been numerous one and done or two and done "franchise QB's". Crowning them too soon tends to backfire. The Pats are a bad example. They cheat.
are you talking about teams that have a great qb already? because we sure don't. we had a qb with an acl injury and refused to address it in the offseason. that's why we are here at 6-8. we could be worse with a rookie qb, but like Goff and Wentz taking their lumps last year, year 2 could be the leap. but we aren't even in year 1
RG3 had a pretty awesome rookie campaign. You trust Watson to come back playing like he was for the rest of his career based of a half season?
We did address it. We got Cutler. Who was it that would've led us to the playoffs that we could have signed?
he attempted the fewest passes at 389 out of all those qb's. not impressed. what if Ajayi couldn't run the ball? his deep ball did improve, I will say that. so, guess what? he is a top 10 qb!!!!!!
will take my chances. but if you are Hou, you might want to draft someone, not as early, but still. their backups suck
Everyone has ****ty backups. If some teams had two starting caliber QBs there wouldn't be 20+ teams with mediocre ones.
That's a pretty weak argument to dismiss the stats. He threw enough to be statistically relevant. Why would you take away Ajayi? Are you going to take away every other QB's help? I bet if you take away some other QBs run game, linemen, or receivers their stats are going to fall back to earth as well. Also using the QBR rating of a single year to make your list of the top 10 QBs in the league? Well, that's just stupid and/or very lazy.
I still don't know how he is a top 10 qb. you think any pundits would say going into 2018, RT is a top 10 qb? really? Look at the qb's that are top 10 now. when has tannehill played like that, 14 games into a season?
You just said that if a stat was posted showing him top 10 then he was. Are you changing the standard now?
I'm not making an argument for Tannehill being a top 10 QB. I was pointing out that the stats provided are exactly what you were asking for someone to provide. You can still not believe Tannehill is not a top 10 QB even with the stats presented. That's fine, I honestly wouldn't expect you to change your opinion based on that new information, but maybe be a little more understanding where someone else might have a difference of opinion on it. Here is a question for you. Dak Prescott ended last year as the 3rd ranked according to QBR. This year he is playing at 16th. Did he mysteriously forget how to be a top 10 QB? Or, is it more likely that there are other factors to a QB getting into the top 10? Now, when you evaluate this team, do you see a great team that is missing a QB? Clearly you don't by your other posts. So is it possible that Tannehill suffers from not having a great surrounding cast?
the surrounding cast is my exact point. You need a strong cast for a mediocre qb. You nailed it about Dak. He is a guy that has to thrive on a team w a line and rb. All teams have issues, but the elite ones mask holes and deficiencies. Has Brees and Brady always had great run games and linemen? No. That's virtually impossible for the 15 years or so they have been in the business. The chase for the elite qb should be ongoing, like it was in Philly. it's the easiest, most sustainable way to build a consistent winner.
