Yesterday watching the Rams vs Phily game, I was shocked at the consistency of one-on-one pressure up the middle to the qb by Cox and Donald. Suh doesn't seem to do this because it seems he is double-teamed more. Pressure up the middle is the exact kind of thing Brady needs, and qb's overall. Has anyone else noticed this, and should Miami be leading someone behind Suh to dial up pressure, since the edge rushers aren't very good?

His name is McMilian and he's been on injured reserve as a rookie all year long. He is a beast hitting the gaps and getting after the QB.

but I saw Cox and Fletcher, by themselves, getting to the qb in under 2.5 seconds

Ya thats because their teams actually run something valled a blitz while we set our limebackers out to coverage to patch our pathetic secondary.

Also the coaches here have a belief that the defensive line should be able to pressure the quarterback without the need of a blitz.

I'd like to see more 'right up the middle' blitzes, letting Suh get a one-on-one as the Center is occupied. Get Brady looking at the pass rush and not downfield and not having a pocket to step up into to escape the DE rush. We need to ask the secondary to cover for three seconds, and will get burned if the rush doesn't get there, but I'd rather lose by 20 while trying to win then play soft and hope to keep the score "respectable".

I'd like to think Burke knows all this too, and more importantly, has the guts to call an aggressive game.

you are so right. 2nd post Im replying to on aggressiveness. Some poster asked me why I would like Rex Ryan, and this is the reason why. Get me a guy who can dial up pressure and dare the qb all day

For the love of God Man! Are you seriously trying to criticize Suh's play? SERIOUSLY??? If so, I am no longer entertained by your antics.

nope. I am saying if he goes one on one, he will get to the qb. If he is double teamed, we need to make sure and send a LB or stunt to keep the pressure. In the game last week there was a bunch of single blocking on Cox and Donald.

Learn to communicate more effectively and don't try to spin what you say when you are wrong. Be consistent and stop making ish up just to create hate and discontent. Think I've been reading your posts quite clearly.

I've noticed that they are chipping Wake and that gives the tackle time to slide up a little higher to a position to defend against his speed. He then engages Wake and forces him even higher. I think they need to stunt a little with OLB rolling to the inside as the Tackle slides out to get to the Wake position. Have Suh attack the Center/guard to that side to occupy them. Either the LB gets pressure from off guard (if the guard doesn't pick him up) or Wake is only shipped and he gets pressure from the outside forcing the QB to roll away from the pressure or move up where the LB and Suh are.

Your premise is spot on, but this is why we drafted Jordan Phillips. If Phillips would develop the consistency he is supposed to, then we wouldn’t have to look at anyone else besides Davon Godchaux to put next to Suh. The rush from the DT spot next to Ndamukong has to be better to make up for the lack of rush we get from our DE spots right now. What worries me is next year being the last year of Phillips contract and then you have to pay him. He seems like the type to finally “get it” in a contract year, command big money, and suddenly regress or revert to old habits after he gets paid. The DE spots have to be better as Harris has to develop and Wake needs to be relegated to more of a pass rushing role. Branch...just needs to be a back up or run down player because he is too slow getting to the QB.

It's the result of competent defensive coaching and schemes that features versatility and flexibility. That holds especially true for Ram's Donald and the mastermind behind it all - Wade Phillips.

A large majority of the time, not only is Suh is lined in the 3 tech over the strong side but the entire front is often aligned in the same manner. NT at 1, DT at 3, DE's kicked out in the 9, and three off-the-ball LBs whose alignment is easily determined by the offensive formation. We feature little to no variations with the exceptions being when we face down and distance situations that feature higher than normal passing or run plays. It's easier to nullify the effectiveness of someone like Suh when him and his teammates line up in the same manner down, after down, after down. Burke is not a qualified DC.

Phillips may be the best DC of our time, but Donald was a beast and top 3-5 DT before him.

Certainly, and Phillips found a way to make him even more effective, much like he did with Miller in Denver.

I yearn for the day when we can land a competent and creative DC.

Can’t remember the last time when we had a flexible DL, that could vary positions, gaps, run stunts, etc .... it’s not just Burke (who wasn’t very good) .... we are full up on 1 trick ponies ....

But, if your going to go out and pay Suh that $$$$, you had better figure out a way to get a benefit out of it ... otherwise, trade the man and save all that $$$ for a couple other players - who can be put in a position to positively impact games.

Not blaming Suh here ... just saying we are wasting both his good years and a lot of $$$ for nothing.

    Shameful...
