Just a couple weeks ago, we were 4-7 and it was on to next year. Winners of two in a row, and playoff scenarios are being thrown, Gase is the greatest coach ever, Cutler gets extended and the Oline is sufficient. I'm not saying don't be optimistic, but be cautious. These are still the Dolphins. They have proven one thing this year, and that's to be consistently inconsistent. First of all, if they happen to make the playoffs, it's really a sign of how weak the AFC is, because a ton of teams above us have to crap the bed for the next three weeks. There are huge salaries next year that need to be dealt with to make the team more flexible, and the offensive line is not deep, as well as the team. Last year we made the playoffs and sat on our Laurels. Where did that get us? we are 6-7, vs 8-5 last year. But statistically, we are at the bottom of many offensive categories, but I get we have improved drastically. Someone asked, if we make the playoffs, do you still look to rebuild parts of the team. The answer's an emphatic yes. You want sustainability. I mean how many years in a row have we had a losing record for all or part of the season? The real point is, a loss to Buffalo this week and the messages change 180. The right approach to take is yes, expecting to win out, but even if they don't, the same problems existed at 4-7 than at 7-7 and 9-7 or 8-8. Drake is a world beater right now, but we all know he is injury-prone. Cutler has been good Cutler, but when is bad Cutler showing up? Howard has been X island for 2 weeks, but what about the other 20+ games? And well, Tannehill has been mediocre, and the offensive line still has dudes named Jesse Davis and Sam Young. Gase is not only a genius right now, he also is a goat. He is partially responsible for us being 4-7, but you have to mix it in a blender with front office moves and injuries.

This team has no recent history of sustainable, winning seasons. I would take it easy on the Playoff talk, leaving the team as is, and anointing Gase the key to the city. This has been a tough season and there are some positives happening now, so enjoy it. Enjoy they are playing well, more likely not making the playoffs, but know they are building on things. Players are developing and the lessons of last year and this year will make for a better team. This is about sustainability, not 2008 again

My summation is let's win the next two and start the playoff talk. So many things need to happen to get us in there including a bigfoot sighting at Joe's Stone Crabs, Crockett and Tubbs reuniting as well as figuring out what's with Trump's hair. It's not time yet. Hopefully it will be in a couple weeks. We have been a very inconsistent team and just winning the next three alone is a yeoman's effort.

With that said, I hope we make it and kick insane amounts of *** and ride into the playoffs like Patton atop a Sherman tank.

As long as we have a realistic enough chance of making the playoffs (estimates of 5% to 9% probability of making it depending on assumptions), there's nothing wrong with playoff talk.

we were in this position a few years back and Everyone's Boy, Tannehill lost to the Jets and Buff to end the year, with one win, they would have made the playoffs. One game he was 10/27 for 82 yards and the other 20/40 for 205 and 3 INT's. Sure the coaches and personnel have changed, but last I checked, we are still 6-7

Um, yes there is. If we win the next two games, talk playoffs all day. What makes you or anyone else in this board, think we can run the table? We beat the Pats, but it was not a clean, complete game by no means. They still have redzone issues, WR issues, and have problems covering slot receivers and TE's. That just hasn't disappeared. Win two on the road, in tough, cold places, and then talk playoffs

Just because you don't like the playoff talk doesn't mean there's something wrong with it. And far more unlikely things have happened than a 1 in 20 chance of something occurring. No, there's nothing wrong with playoff talk. And there's nothing wrong with enjoying how things are unfolding right now either.

We don't have a realistic shot at this point. I think it's 9% chance we make it. Now stop me if I'm wrong as I only went to Cornell University but that would mean there's a 91% chance we don't. At least wait for a 50/50 right?

Why don't you just knock it off for while, seriously. I am sorry not every move this team makes is with your approval. I am sorry that everything you said would happen vs the patriots did not happen. I am sorry that other people's optimism throws you in a tizzy. I am sorry that people on here think so little of you, that they think you have multiple accounts. I am sorry that you being on a "vacation" , the mains had the best week with mature conversations, that it had all year. I am sorry that you came back and started up with the same clown act of multiple threads with the same content, like before you left. And I am sorry for the posters on here that come to the mains hoping it would keep improving. And most importantly, I am sorry for this rant, I am. Biggest win for us fans and this team in forever(and boy did we need that!) and you decide to piss on the parade.

Well.. the "wait for 50/50" doesn't jibe with your suggestion that we first win the next 2 and then worry about playoffs because even if we win the next 2 the probability of making the playoffs will still be less than 50% (depending on assumptions it will be closer to 37-40%). So I think that's way too high a threshold.

Why don't you post your own thread? We can all read it at Chuck E Cheese or Disney World with lollipops and fart confetti at each other. How are you improving the mains? Everyone on here doesn't need to guzzle the koolaide like Kramer drinking from the fire hose. No one is saying they aren't happy with us having won. Everyone here loves it when we win. The point is that some people need to chill just a bit on the playoff talk just like Landry, myself and some others had to chill with the fire everyone talk. Take a breath man.

The problem also is if we finish the year 9-7, playoffs or not, everyone will have a feel good pulse on the team, when it is far from that. AND I think the front office would do the same. In reality, we beat a bad Denver team and a Pats team without Gronk, who if the Pats had, would have beaten us. Yes they won the SB last year without him, but this year they need him. You will see the real Pats team next week. I'd hold any playoff talk until they can go to two tough places to play two teams that are in the playoffs right now. And, they both are pretty desperate for wins. One for a city and one to save face on a season that started well. Convos should be about the improvement they made from the depths of hell. And how they can build on that improvement. How on earth did they win a game against the Pats without any production from Thomas, Parker and Stills? And is that sustainable?

Wait... What??? Who do you think is going to blow up if we don't make it? Its not going to be the people that have been even handed with their expectations. Its going to be the people that go negative at the 1st sign of trouble. Sorry Dirty, but that's been you lately. If we lose 1 out of the next 3 games virtually eliminating us from the playoffs, I suspect we will hear "fire Gase", "Same crap team every year", and "Tannehill sucks blah blah blah", but it won't be from the vast majority of posters celebrating this team right now. Most of us see things we like, realize what the team has to do to get better, and understand how many obstacles were in the way this year.

I agree you should not get your hopes up, unless you temper it with reasonable expectations.

There is a difference between seeing a way to win three somewhat winnable games and fire everyone after each loss. I am sorry you think they are the same thing. Since we are still alive with a chance to make it(slim,at best), playoff off talk is certainly not an insane conversation. I am breathing just fine, talk about possibly getting to the playoffs is not lollipops and farting confetti. Sad that you think it is. And most on here won't be on suicide watch no matter how this season ends.....but I have a feeling most can guess which few on here will be

Yep. I don't want to consider playoff talk until we win the next 2. We can talk playoffs if we get into the last week only needing to win that last game. They have a lot of business to take care of and still need some help.

The point of my post, only one person gets, is making the playoffs or having this run SHOULD NOT take away from the deficiencies this team has, esp when we were 1-2 or 4-7. This was the mistake we made last year. If anything, we should go harder and fix the issues that have plagued us in the past and try to be sustainable, even start off like 6-1, vs 3-4 or 4-3 like the past 2 years. Just because you get away with Cutler this year doesn't make him sustainable. However, the game plan and prep might be. Just because you have Drake, doesn't mean you can get away next year without a duo. Phily tends to think you need a pair or 3, and they are #1 in the NFC. I like their thinking, even at QB. They had 3 in house and let the best one win. If Bell is available and won't be franchised, that's worth at least a look. Sure Tannehill will come back and more likely play, but isn't Brees and Cousins worth a look? No one here knows, it's just a guess, on their personnel evaluations. Fin D thinks Tannehill is set for stardom, when he has been a below average QB in the prior 5 years. I want to elevate this board's thinking. One year of Tannehill at $15M vs Brees or Cousins for two years plus a rookie qb....which one could have sustainability? There is a reason why his contract loses more guaranteed money at the end vs elite qb's in the NFL.

So if we lose, we're a bad team. If we blow out New England, we're a bad team. If we finish with a 5 game win streak and make the playoffs, we're still a bad team. Could you please describe a scenario where we'd be considered a good team then? Because it sounds like you're saying that 99% of the members here just don't understand football or what to root for.

We are no where near a good team. Do you know (I know it doesn't matter) what ESPN ranked us? 21st. That mean they believe teams with more losses than us are better than us. You actually trust this team? 2 weeks ago, we were 4-7, after getting our heads bashed to NE. Is all gravy in 2 weeks? How about the prior 4 games we lost, 3 in primetime? One to TB and Oakland? The players haven't changed. I'm saying we are a decent team if we are 8-7. 7-7 is mediocre. 9-7 is decent. You think this team could go to KC or SD on the road or Jax or NE and beat them in the first round? The same exposure they had against Pitt last year in the playoffs is still the same. It's the same team.

I want to win a Super Bowl. This is a deep draft; we need several high football IQ players to become a true contender. One more bad season will not kill us to be honest. I don't see good quaterbacks after this draft for 3 or 4 years. Our Oline and LBs are an area of concern. I can't think of a championship team with bad linebackers. I might be wrong, but a complete team can contend every year. We need to finish building that team.

I will be able to tell how they start out on defense. If we come out 7-10 yards off receivers we will lose. If we play like they did against Pats we will win. That is how I will judge rest of the games this year.
