Video title is a little hyperbolic.

Did you watch that game? That was a huge win with Jim Bates...team really rallied around him.

    Wasn't hyperbolic at all...

Alright, this is what the 2017 season comes down to...win and we make a run at the playoffs, with a good chance at it as well, with good vibes if we can pull that off going into the offseason.

Lose and let’s play the playerS we need to get good looks at.

Hate to say this dj, but that Tampa game was really the last time where we had a realistic shot at the playoffs (or the NE game if you wish). We're out of the playoffs almost guaranteed even if we win out now.

Right now the WC teams are Jacksonville (8-4) and Baltimore (7-5). It's nearly impossible to beat Jacksonville because they'd have to lose out to even have a chance and they at least have the 49ers left to play. Tennessee (8-4) is tied with them record wise but they also have the 49ers left. Baltimore would have to lose at least 3 out of 4 because losing only 2 means they beat us due to head-to-head, unless it goes to 3-way tiebreakers which means record in common games, then strength of victory (which we'd lose for sure!). Oh, and Baltimore will play the Bengals, Colts and Browns.. they're NOT losing 3 out of 4.

Then of course there are 4 other 5-6 or 5-7 teams we're competing with (we can ignore Buffalo at 6-6 assuming we sweep them) and the probability we'll win tiebreakers ? Yeah.. you get what I'm saying.

We're not making the playoffs this year. That's not 100% certain, but I'd say it's like 99.3% certain LOL (that's meant to be a subjective estimate, but probably not too far off the mark lol).

Well..then this is our big game.

Pound the Patriots and move on to off-season.

I think I'd blocked out the memory of those awful uniforms. I clearly remember the game, but had pictured them in Aqua.

That was the autumn that I started dating my wife, and it might have been the first game we ever watched together. I know she stayed up until the end of the Browns game the following week with me, and was bored to tears. The loud "bonk" when the ball hit the upright on the FG try is still vivid.

The extreme and blatant disrespect by the on the air people at ESPN before the game was jarring. They didn't usually trash teams so openly in those days in pregame, but it was two hours of laughing at Miami. Still burns me all these years later.

Baltimore has us by two games and they still have to play Pitt and Cinci, plus Indy and Cleveland. So they should go 3-1 or 2-2 at worst....let's go with 2-2. That makes them 9-7. Let's say we win out and are also 9-7....what if LA or Oakland also finishes at 9-7? Do we have any chance in the 3-way tie scenario since head-to-head becomes more cloudy? I'm not seeing anything that gives me hope from the tiebreaker rules.

I'm grasping for straws here...it doesn't look too good.

It depends on which teams are in a 3-way tie. First tie breaker is head-to-head sweep, so if one team beat all others, or if one lost to all others, you can eliminate a team (or multiple teams). So if there is a 3-way tie with two teams we lost to, such as with both the Raiders and Ravens, we lose out. Actually in that case the Ravens go through because they beat the Raiders.

The only "realistic" chance we have is if there is a 3-way tie with any two teams OTHER than the Raiders and Ravens, OR there is a 4- or 5-way tie in which case we have the advantage because the next tiebreaker is conference record and we'll have a 8-4 conference record which is guaranteed better than Baltimore, Bengals, Chargers and Raiders if they go 9-7. Only the Jets can match us there.

But that doesn't matter because the next tie breaker is record in common games and we have the Jets beat. Both teams lost to the Raiders, Panthers and Bucs, but Jets also lost to Atlanta and the Bills. We beat Atlanta but lost to the Saints, which if they win out they'll have beaten. The difference maker will be us sweeping the Bills, which as you remember was the key anyway lol (just NOT in such a convoluted fashion!).

So the one realistic scenario for us making the playoffs is if we win out and are in a multi-way tie at 9-7 but not in a 3-way tie with the Raiders and Ravens.

Okay, awesome....so we're officially LA fans as long as we keep winning. That will be a crucial piece of the puzzle since Baltimore will definitely be in the picture.

I don't want to piss in anyone's corn flakes but are you guys really discussing playoff scenarios? The Dolphins will not make the playoffs this year. Why are you torturing yourselves?
