I hate almost everything about it. It's overly complex to the point where guys who have been running it for years still have to wear wrist bands to know what to do, yet it is also so predictable that almost every defense we face knows what is coming and how to counter it. The extreme rigidity of it where players have to fit the "system" instead of the system adjusting to the players talents. The constant worthless wr screens, the dink and dunk passes, the finesse and vanilla running game. Tell me again why we are throwing deep to Landry when he is not a deep threat? Why are we throwing screens to Parker when he is not a yac receiver? Why did we run so much inside zone with ajayi when he is a better outside zone runner? It's just awfull, only time it is any good is when we are down and he has to start taking chances and opening things up. I hope everyone has realized by now that gase is no offensive guru, he is an average offensive coordinator who lucked out having Payton Manning to make him look good. If your offense only works with a HOF QB under center then it is not much of an offense. This team is going from bad to worse, last year was a fluke due to a combination of luck in a lot of very close games, ajayi breaking out and carrying the team midseason, and a very weak schedule. Gase was not and is not ready to be a HC in the NFL imo. Maybe in the future he can become one, but right now he is an amateur at the position that he is in and we have to suffer through his learning curve. We need a coach with real experience and a history of real success. Someone who knows what the heck they are doing. With gase I am thinking the same thing I am thinking with tannehill. They are an average HC/QB combination. If we have a chance at a real proven HC and/or real franchise QB in the off-season we need to make the change asap and stop experimenting and waiting for things to "click". I have seen enough from both RT and Gase to know that neither of them are anything special.
Land the next Aaron Rodgers in the draft and all of a sudden Gase is a genius again. Problem is, we don't have the front office to even realize we may need a QB, let alone know a good one when they see him.
As someone mentioned, oh, the irony. Partly true. But he was successful with the Bears, and for all Peyton was at the time he was under Gase, he wasn't actually ... you know, good. Secondly, he did laud Gase more than is necessary. Half the NFL says what? Why is this year not a fluke due to a combination of starting QB going down, hurricane, Foerrester, Ajayi regressing and a way harder schedule? You may be right that he wasn't ready. You may be right we are suffering a learning curve. If that is the case ... why are we dumping him in the middle of that curve? If we are going to dump, it had better be because we KNOW he isn't a head coach. Flat out. As for a coach with real experience and a history of real success? Name some names. These guys aren't falling off trees. If you say Gruden, I will hit you through your screen lol. I can think of a handful of coaches, but it's unlikely they are unemployed and its unlikely we can entice them to move. I do think we should invest in a new QB. All in all, I want the full season to play out. I am currently on the fence. An offensive genius should coax a bit more out than he has. A good manager shouldn't seem to have as many issues as we do. Ultimately, if the season ends and we are at least playing hard and take a few? I'd probably lean towards keeping unless someone unexpected shakes loose. Get a better QB, better line, then let's see which season was the fluke.
Wait .. what??? Gase was OC in Denver from 2013-2014. Peyton in 2013 had a record breaking season, most notably the most TD's ever in a season with 55, and the most passing yards per game in a season with 342.3. There's a case to be made that that was the best passing offense ever in NFL history. The only thing more remarkable than that Peyton-led 2013 offense was how Seattle shut it down in the SB. And 2014 wasn't that bad either with Peyton having a 101.5 rating for the year which was 4th best in the league. The rest of your post you made some good points.. but this quote?? lol
I think the bad playcaller narrative is overblown, I think we have a personnel problem, and Unless you have russel Wilson at qb if your line is this bad, this weak, this uncoordinated, your offense is going to suck and be completely inconsistent.. Time to completely focus the personnel on the Oline
Yeah well, that is also largely on Gase. He is the one that thought we didn't need good guards to run this offense and that re-signing Bushrod and signing a career backup in Larsen was enough. He is part of the evaluation team that alleged Bushrod played great last year when we all know Bushrod is actually a terrible guard. Bushrod singlehandedly killed at least one crucial drive today against Tampa.
he got too much credit for Manning's ability. The 2015 season in Chic was average, and was over-emphasized because Cutler played a little better
Peyton in Denver couldn't throw deep though, so Gase's offense probably fitted him quite well (it doesn't hurt in NE either, as Brady throws a lot of underneath stuff) - however, both had/have a more well rounded offense and better Olines as well (notwithstanding HOF QB's). Someone more knowledgeable will know if they have bubble screens in their offense. The one thing I wondered is, if Cutler/Moore can see that the bubble screen (for example) won't work, how much freedom do they have to audible away from Gase's possible bad play sent in?
Cutler/Moore have zero freedom to audible. Gase does not allow audibles, which I think is one of the biggest reasons why this offense is not working.
yesterday on the first TD drive I was OK! Gase has it figured out now, but then he went back to she same ole BS play calling that has not worked all year.
Let's look at the results... PPG 31 out of 32 YPG 30 out of 32 So for those that like the "Process", how does this compare to last years "Process"?
If our team is still this bad without him, why did we practically give him away? I love Ajayi but like I said before, at the very least, it was worth keeping him around in hope he’d return to form and risk missing out on a low 4th round pick.
Freelancing...HMMMMMM, maybe since the hole that was supposed to be there wasn't he had no choice.....
been trying to say this as a point of though, you know how the job of a QB is a lot easier when you can run, look at the cowboys with out Zeke the ship is wavering. Having a guy who beasts on runs makes a qb's job a lot easier.
gase needed to prove his point lol and win lol but all it did was make gase look like a moron and give ajayi a shot at a ring. By the playoffs ajayi is going to be a focal point in thear offense, i literally think when he gets up to speed with blount there going to give every team headaches, you imagine trying to tackle both those guys who keep fresh legs all game. I wouldn't want to. you can already see there giving Ajayi a little more different of looks that we did in miami.
how dare you say this about Gase, Gase knows what Gase does and Gase doesn't like Gase being talked bad about..
Statistically yes that offense posted good numbers. Manning himself was clearly not the same though from a physical perspective. The point was that Gase was not inheriting prime Manning, which admittedly was not clear and thus your posting. He was inheriting a very physically limited QB. Yes, Manning's brain was undoubtedly a huge factor, his audibles, line calls, etc. But the people that just discount everything that happened in Denver as "just Manning" is a flawed argument imo. To be clear, I have no idea if you are or are not in that camp Brad, just explaining the thinking. The below quote got my gist. As far as bubble screens, Demarius Thomas was incredibly effective running those and other short routes. That dude seemed to house a bubble screen every damn game. Was crazy, I never understood how teams couldn't stop it.
Play action, read options, dump off passes, chunk yardage, converting third downs, defenses selling out to stop the run, time of possession to rest the defense, etc. But Ajayi wasn’t good for any of that, apparently. We’ve got a strong running game now.
He wasn't "prime" physically, but he was "prime" in terms of performance which is really all that counts I think. As far as who was more responsible, I'd say Gase is right now making a strong case that it really was Peyton more than anything else. Also when adjusted for era, Cutler's 2015 season with Gase was only his 4th best (his best years were his early years), and Tannehill's 2016 season was similar to his 2014 season statistically, including an 8-game stretch where his combined rating was over 100. Peyton on the other hand was an elite QB before he was with Gase. So while I think both contributed, right now the evidence weighs much more heavily on Peyton being the primary factor than Gase IMO.
Heres the real question how many of those screens where called plays and not audibles by manning? When audibles were called by peyton that had nothing to do w gase, which is probably why he thinks they would be affective w miami because it worked for peyton.
Who knows. We also don't have a Thomas on our team (size, speed, strength). Parker is the closest, but he has been a disappointment this season. Landry doesn't have the speed, Stills doesn't have the size. It wouldn't surprise me if Denver's success with it is making him commit to them, but they are not a great play here, agreed.
I dunno guys... it's almost like it worked so well with his skilled starting QB, and with Cutler it isn't working. When Tannehill comes back (or he is replaced with someone not named Cutler) it will go back to being fine. I think.
Both are highly experienced QB's though, if they decided to audible away from it, surely Gase wouldn't throw them under the bus if it worked (could his ego handle it?) as the QB is usually in the best position pre-snap to change the play?
What offense? You mean from the offensive genius QB whisperer? Yeah we have no offense. Our offense is offensive. It'll stop being so when we can score more than the other team. Until then it sucks. Don't need to break it down into slices. Did the other team get more points than us? Yeah? Ok then our offense sucks at least for that week. It's like trying to convince your parents when you have an F that all the other kids cheat and you are sticking to your standards.
"I've been in the same system for 18 years with the same head coach and only 2-3 offensive coordinators. I'm also considered to be one of the smartest QB's ever. Why am I still using this thing?"
Unless you like Tuesday-Thursday NCAA games for more reasons than betting, you will hate this offense. LOL
There were a couple of times last game where the back went where they were supposed to (assume) and it looked if they had bounced it in or out just a bit they would have had a nice gain. Guess Gase doesn't that.
