    man, had a nice long post ready last night ...TWICE the power blipped.. I went to bed.

    Mal, we had one down south too, here is a video;

    http://www.truveo.com/Fay-tornado-destroys-horse-clinic/id/1619877304

    well.. Fay did the extraordinary.. she intensified over land... here is Dr. Masters blog from last night that I "tried" to post then. Dr. Masters has been calling Fay the "Joker" for 4-5 days now because she has made everyone and their computer model look like an idiot this last week;

    http://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMasters/comment.html?entrynum=1033&tstamp=200808

    for now, Fay is maybe stalled right on top of Melbourne Florida. Models have it briefly into the Atlantic, then back across Florida "maybe" back into the GoM. Here is the current radar from Melbourne;

    The track is only slightly south of where it was predicted to exit the peninsula, which is good for my family in T'ville but sucks for my friends in Melbourne.

    The thing is, if the CoC get's offshore it could intensify.. and because of slow movement could impact both areas.. it IS headed toward T-ville, but the very worse is minimal hurricane, the big threat being tornadoes and flooding. I got ten inches here yesterday, and some made it into the cottage.. things were lively for a while.

    It sucks that the storm has stalled half in the water. Its going to keep its juice as long as it stays over the water prob. How far from Tampa is the storm?

    Well, it looks to be coming right over me now...:sad: Not that we don't need the rain here in G'ville, but the wife has to work on Thurs. and Fri., and I seriously doubt that her job will close down if and when it does come across us. Hopefully it'll stay pretty weak, but we'll see. It's not her I'm worried about necessarily, it's all the other idiots driving out there that scare me.:lol: They just don't understand that a bus handles differently in TS weather.

    Here is the storm total for the Melbourne, Satillite Beach area.. Notice the light blue/grey.. 20 plus inches and STILL falling On some weather blogs they are saying more than 25 inches... that's a LOT of rain in 24 hours. Most models have Fay pushing west over the state maybe impacting as far south as Tampa, but more likely the panhandle will get it. The fear is that Fay will get to the GoM and strengthen.. I think wind shear will tear it up.. we'll see.. the map..

    So...I'm guessing the rain is putting all the muck fires and such out that have plagued FL in recent months?

    That's a good thing, but my understanding is it's too much of a good thing all at once.

    Hope there's not too much damage from flooding.

    Thanks Deb.

    Well, Fay has finally decided to move off the Cape and begin it's trek back across Florida. She was weakened considerably but has in the last 12 hours or so re-established it's windfield and the whole southern part of the state has now lit back up and is seeing feeder bands again. The shear from the ULL that suppressed the west side is now gone so the GoM is now being tapped for the first time. Part of a feeder band is over me here in Jensen, and the wind has just risen from <5 to maybe 15mph, gusts to 25. Here is a current 1300est sat image;

    [IMG]

    The eye of convection is HUGE, Gainesville is in the eyewall and the eye is only 1/3 back onto the coast. While Fay sat on top of Melbourne/Canaveral/Titusville the eye wall storms just pounded the area with 25-26 inches of rain and the entire system is flooded something terrible. Here is the landfall loop to current 12:41 est

    [IMG]

    The forecast track is a mess, as it has been the entire time with Fay. The fear of course is the GoM, and it's warm water. Most tracks have it on, or close enough to the panhandle to restrain serious developement. Fay is one for the record books and she's not nearly done. Strengthened over land, caused tornados, serious flooding.. has sat on us for four days and it looks like another one at the least. Quite a mess for a storm that never made it to even minimal hurricane status. I can see the NHC retiring this name when it's all done and finished. Here are the spagetti models, this is a live link and I "think" will stay current.

    [IMG]

    I found an interesting satelitte loop at CIMSS, from the University of Wisconsin Madison. This blog goes into the reasons that Fay intensified over land. The GOES 12 loop I wanted to show you is to large for photobucket, so you will have to visit if you want to see it.

    http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/blog/archives/772

    Well, to y'all in the Florida panhandle, lower Alabama, lower Missip, and New Orleans.. heads up, Fay is headed your way, get your snorkles out.

    It has been an amazing storm. Strengthening over land is almost unhead of. I'm interested in reading the theory behind that.

    It was still somewhat over the ocean too though. I think thats where it got its strenght. Plus its stalled which made it even worse.
