you know, given what we saw from daniels in his rookie season, i'm not so quick to write him off like a lot of you guys are. we have seen close to his ceiling, and it was fine. i think with all the turnover and coaching strategy changes since he's been here, he's been struggling to find his identity and position. give him some steady coaching, a regime that lasts longer than one year, and i'm sure he'll be great! sad to see him go, but glad we got something for him. hope it's not a garbage-time 6th or 7th round pick though.
Good bye Travis Daniels... Hello Joey Thomas!! I think that this is a good move as it's likely that Thomas will make the squad and he's shown a lot of upside and potential through training camp. I'm rooting for this kid to make the team...
I love the fact that we traded a player that was probably gonna be cut anyway. BP and Ireland are wheelin and dealin, you gotta love it!!!
Jason Allen isn't going anywhere. As for "their guys", don't get too carried away with it. Saban's philosophy isn't that far removed from what Parcells and Co. like to do. Daniels is gone because he was a bubble player that may not have made their roster, and they got a pick for him.
honestly, it shouldn't matter who drafted or signed these players. If they buy into the system and play their butts off and perform well then they're always gonna have a spot on the team.
This regime is the complete opposite of WannSpeil. Instead of picks for players, its players for picks. I like it. As for Daniels, he was solid in his rookie year, but instability with coaches(Saban, Richard Smith, Mel Phillips, Dom Capers, ect) hindered his development I think, and hes degressed. Hopefully Joey Thomas can fill the void.
It's a bunch of gibberish is what it really is. You can fit whatever you want to whatever player on the team and call him a Parcells player. I bet half of the people who post about that don't even know what Parcells likes in a certain player and what traits he's willing to sacrifice.
Doesn't apply at all positions and he has had exceptions yet they are constantly referred to as Parcells players. For example his CBs have very different attributes then his LB-DL (size/speed) preferences. If I've noticed something interesting about Parcells is that his defenders don't have instincts as their primary background. His ILBs especially are not Zach Thomas clones in feel for the game.
Just out of curiosity, how many Saban drafted players are left on the roster? As far as as drafting players who will do what parcells says, I thought Tony Sparano was the head coach and told the players what to do, did I miss something there? IMHO the Three Amigos are making decisions without any sentiment involved, strictly on a business basis, and that is what is needed for this team to grow. Prior HC/GMs made poor decisions and tended to hang onto players whether they were productive or not. Whether these decisions were made out of sentiment or a refusal to ackowledge they made mistakes is irrelevant because a lot of those decisions hurt the team.
i think there are 6 left... ronnie, crowder, roth, allen, hagan, and rod wright. i could be wrong though.
What I'm so annoyed about is that we've essentially blasted away that 2nd round pick and 3rd round pick from 2007 under Cameron and couldn't have given it to either Saban or Parcells (preferably the latter) to make better use of. I guess we have to just consider this year one:
