Its crazy, it even crazier when its your own back yard, and you see the people affected by it more closely. It really hits home. I was on the strip yesterday, and it was surreal, but the community is great here, I am going saturday to donate blood, people in Vegas are amazing, despite what outsiders may think of Vegas, its really a close community

Not that its a competition in any way, but I live just outside of Charlotteville, so I know what its like to have the country's eye on your town for horrible reasons. I'm sorry that something awful had to happen there also.

Oh man, that's nuts! My best friend caught a flight out of there about 3 hours before the shooting. I hope your brother recovers quickly and doesn't have any muscle damage/long term rehab.

No wonder these Cheez It Grooves are so damn good and addicting, they're treated with MSG's and TBHQ, plus a host of other crap your body would prefer to do without. Bummer.

Well, anything that tastes good is probably bad for you. The worse something tastes, the healthier it is, most of the time.

unfortunately, more and more towns are starting to understand the feeling. Been through it here with the Boston marathon bombing and subsequent man-hunt that followed. Even driving through Newtown CT last year seemed surreal.

Yeah, its sad. Right now this is the worst mass shooting in the US ever, and in about a year or two, something else will take its place. Things need to change, this is getting too common.

Strange tidbit of the day: Theoretically, all the spiders of the world could consume twice the weight of the global human population..... and they eat more tonnage of insects and other pests than all humans do meat and fish.

Most of the shooters have been crazy and obtained guns illegally, so that's something that can be fixed. Yet this guy in Vegas- they still don't have a motive or any clue about what sent him over the koo-koo's nest. I don't see how you stop someone like that who's mentally sane one minute and then just decides to try and kill as many people as possible.

I do know one thing though- all this Trump hate has to stop. The country is so divided on so many things right now and it makes people do regrettable things. Just look at the ugliness on social media and in the news- it's everywhere these days. It's not a left or right thing either...people are just mad.

I'm not going to get into a left vs right argument. The point I want to make is that when you bring a STRONGLY galvanizing figure into office, you are 100% bound to end up exactly where we are now.

I didn't mean to imply that- what I meant to say is that folks are acting crazy regardless of political view. It wasn't meant to be a pro or anti Trump statement....just that all the division and hatred needs to stop.

yeah, I got your point. not arguing it. The political galvanization started ramping up to a higher level at the end of the Clinton era and seems to have gotten progressively worse with each person in office. Now it's at a ridiculous level. I just don't see a path forward right now that calms things down. I can't even listen to news anymore. but then I'm still saturated by social media.

I stopped getting on Facebook specifically over all the political stuff- I just don't want anything to do with it. What gets me is that 42% of the nation doesn't even vote...ever...yet everyone seems to hate those damn <insert your political poison>. Think about this, if everyone who didn't vote would have went to the polls and voted for a 3rd candidate...that candidate would have won by a landslide.

I'm actually more stunned at who went to the polls. Again, not trying to be political. But growing up in Mississippi, I was surrounded by the people who voted for the current POTUS. Never in a million years would I have predicted that they would get off the couch and vote. Love or hate the bastard, you gotta admit that he galvanized his fanbase to get out and vote.

Well gerrymandering is an issue in itself since it lets those in control rig elections- it's amazing how a county can switch from red to blue (or vise versa) when everyone votes exactly the same as they did last time. It just sickens me because the system is so corrupted, you have to vote Dem or Rep because it's impossible for anyone else to win. That's what happens though when you let the two main political parties control every aspect of elections- of course they tilt things in their own favor.

So this is kinda cool. I have a large pecan tree behind the house about 20 feet off my living room windows. Today I decided to put a halogen light in the ground shining up at it so it's not just pitch black out back at night. Come to find out I have a pair of tiny southern flying squirrels living in it who come alive after dark (they're nocturnal), playing with each other and leaping from branch to branch for hours. 5 years now and I never realized they were there, lol. These things cost like $250 each as pets.

just venting here. Have had a crazy few weeks, working ~80 hours a week. Finally get a night home to relax, work on my homebrew craft and the drainage pipe (leading into main one) busts open and now my man cave smells like crap (pun fully intended).

Yuck. I hope that things clear up for you, man. I had to have a leaky drain pipe fixed before I was able to sell my house this summer. Home repairs suck, and there's always something else lurking.

Man, when I was in college, I couldn't put on weight to save my life. Now that I've hit 40 and don't care about it anymore, I'll gain a pound just by lookin' at a pizza. :pity:

I remember stating that when I was 40. Now that I'm 46, I yearn for the days of 40. The biggest difference, in my early 40s, I would gain the weight quickly, but then I could still lose it and get down to an acceptable level (lose 5 lbs in couple of weeks). Now that I'm 46, no such luck.

Too true. It's a win-lose situation. The better I get at brewing, more I'm going to drink, more weight I gain.

Figure out a way to become gluten intolerant and that’ll cure your problem in a hurry, lol. My body has reached the point where the only beer it can somewhat tolerate is Bud Light. A blessing and a curse.

I have....never had that problem, sadly. After I went through puberty, my body decided that it wanted to gain weight pretty badly. Starting when I went to college, I realized that I had to both exercise AND diet to keep from gaining too much. I actually wasn't able to lose weight, and get down below around 190, until I was diagnosed as diabetic and went on meds.

Of course now that I'm 40, I'm busting my rear end to stay at 190, after getting down below 170 about five years ago. It just gets harder.

I also saw my eye doctor this week and told her about a few new problems that I've been having. She just kind of smirked and said "well, you did pass a certain threshold last month....". Officially old.

I've lost eight pounds this week. My secret? My wife quit her job and is now cooking all of our meals at home. And I'm like duh....of course I eat less of your food than when we hit Longhorn, Pizza Hut or Wild Wings. We've been doing seasoned chicken and veggies for about two weeks not and it seems to be helping.

I'm down to 301 but I need to be in the 250's maximum. I'm still searching for the secret though at 44...I bust my *** in the gym, eat decent and gain a pound or two a week. My clothes continue to fit better but the weight just doesn't want to come off (except for this week). And all my lab tests look good...it just sucks getting older since the body slows down.

Question- have any of you researched the testosterone supplements? I see a lot of commercials lately and I'm curious if there's any science behind it...and of course if it's safe.

I know it's easier said than done, but the only way you'll lose weight is to take in less calories than you burn. If you're gaining weight you're eating more than your body needs. However, if your clothes are fitting better this may mean that you're gaining muscle and muscle will burn fat.

The hard thing of course is figuring out how much you're burning, because everyone is different. Even when I was young, I could change my diet and eat only unsatisfying food that tasted bland, go as little as 1500 calories a day, not drink beer, and still not lose weight if I didn't exercise.

If I exercise five times a week, then I can eat my usual 2000 calories and still lose weight gradually. Diet + hard exercise is the only thing thats ever been truly effective for me personally.

Yeah, I figured that I was adding muscle and that's a good thing- I just need to get the scales moving in the opposite direction as well. It's my own fault for being a workaholic and spending too much time in front of a computer screen, so I think it's just a matter of overcoming that through cardio over time. I have no idea why I finally dropped 8 pounds this week but I'm hoping that it's breaking through that plateau I've been stuck at for so long. I'm crossing my fingers anyway.

One thing I've learned though is that I wasn't eating enough- it's not just calories in vs calories out. For the past 7 years, I've had a Pepsi for breakfast, a Pepsi for lunch and then ate a regular dinner...that's all I was really hungry for and my body was fine with it. My doctor told me off though and said to eat anything for breakfast- even if it's horrible like a double chocolate muffin, and then have something sensible for lunch. Once I started eating more, I started getting hungry again....and then the weight started coming off.

The doctor explained that I was in starvation mode and no matter what I ate, my body would hang on to everything it could. So I got fat by eating less than 2k calories a day (sometimes way less)...just because I wasn't eating at the right times to maximize my metabolism.

This is a friend of a friend's website- he's one of the leading US experts in fitness and nutrition. His free videos helped me a lot a few months back and his paid system is basically portion control with the right types of foods. I'm probably starting his plan next month- http://markmacdonald.tv/
