Like 5th-rounder, Reshad Jones? Even Ajayi, whom you're lamenting, was a 5th-round pick. Come on, naw.
This is an OK trade, but i like the thought process. Landry should be next. Tannenbaum needs to go as GM though. His moves last offseason killed this team, between re-signing Stills and Branch for big money when they are average-below average players, and then completely ignoring the guard position when it kills the entire offense. This team isnt that far away when Tannehill is healthy. They need 2 guards, a TE, and one more stud MLB. Unfortunately, we lack the assets to do this because we are overpaying guys like Suh (even though he is a beast), Kiko (is actually terrible), Branch (has literally never been good), and Stills (an average and replaceable receiver). Now that the Stills contract is a sunk cost, however, we should trade Landry for the highest pick we can get, likely a 2nd rounder. He is an above average receiver, but he is nowhere near a #1 and we have Parker (who is capable of being a #1) and Stills who is already signed long term. A slot receiver to replace Landry is one of the easier things in the league to replace. Look at the top guys in the league as far as targets. Not many are less productive on a per target basis than Landry. He is a nice player, he is not a star in any sense of the word. Dolphins fans overrate the **** out of him because the offense is so reliant on his bull**** 2 yard catches. This Ajayi trade doesnt look good, but i like the process of getting rid of guys before they crash rather than after. Ajayi's knees dont have much left, and if he refuses to be a professional off the field with bad knees at the most replaceable position in sports, he can go elsewhere.
Rant on bro, rant on... don't worry about the facts that lead to this decision. They're not important I guess.
I have a hunch the Phins were trying to find a replacement for Landry this year, which is why they looked hard at Cooper Kupp and had Ryan Switzer and Trent Taylor in for workouts.
Never have I seen so much wailing and gnashing of teeth about a player who was producing poorly for a historically inept offense.
well seeing how he was really the only hope for a good game I can understand, its just shows you where the teams at lol
This wouldnt be a question if they either chose wisely with the picks they traded for Caroo. If Carroo was playing like everyone thought he was capable of, this would be a no brainer decision. The slot receiver position is one of the easiest things to find in this league. If you can get a 2nd rounder for landry before you have to pay him big money, you do it in a heartbeat. I might think differently if they didnt give stills that stupid contract, but Parker and Stills as your #1 and 2 are fine if Parker can just stay healthy. Paying Landry huge money in a salary cap sport just makes no sense, but especially for a team with this cap situation.
He has no limitations eh? Ok... so those knees aren't limitations? Nor his stone hands? His not knowing his assignments because he can't be bothered? His undisciplined running that he's refused to correct this year? His struggles with picking up some pass protections (albeit not as bad as Williams has been) His poor attitude... AGAIN this year. His pouting, and complaining to his position coaches, his storming out of the locker room after wins where he didn't have a big enough role, his me-first mentality... none of those are limitations eh? Ok... If a guy isn't willing to play within the system, and the coaches have worked with him to get him to do so, and he's still not willing... THAT's on the player, when then puts it on the coaches to act. If he's not willing to put in the work... that's the issue here... the issue isn't he doesn't fit the system, the issue is he's doing whatever the hell he wants, however the hell he wants with no regard for the system, and in the coaches eyes, it's causing the problems, and... it is. So, yeah... you know that old saying, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink, that's what's going on here. Enough is enough though. If you want to be a star player, then act like one. Do what you're supposed to do, how you're supposed to do it. As much as he apparently wanted to think he's so important... message delivered... Nobody is above the team and I'm sure to many in that lockerroom it's not a real surprise as they've probably heard the coaches on Ajayi's case numerous times during film study for his mistakes, and other issues. will he have a good rest of the season in Philly. Yup. Probably. They have a lot more talent on that offense than we do here, so of course he will. Would he have been a long term answer here? Probably not, especially with the situation HE PUT HIMSELF INTO.
Ajayi is not a hybrid back It is essential in the Gase offense Ajayi had 14 recepts for 67 yards In 2013 in Denver, Moreno had 60 catches for 548 yards 2014, the committee had 55 for 463 in 2015, inc Chic is was 66 for 668
Agreed. If he had any type of ability in the passing game, he'd still be here despite the knees and completely unprofessional conduct.
I think if you watch his college tape, you'd think hey... there's the potential there for him to do that. It just hasn't happened. He hasn't made the most of those opportunities. Hell, they're even sending Williams out on routes now more than Ajayi because he's not been successful. He's a good, strong, tough runner, on bad wheels. It's only going to last for so long, and it's not what you envisioned he'd be, he's been a headache, so get what you can and move on. Maybe we see them use that pick and acquire another RB today who can be more multi-purposed than Jay, and provide more of a future.
I am kinda liking the trade. That guy in New England certainly does this kind of thing. If you don't want to "play" within the system. see ya .
Won't have to wait long. And as I wrote earlier, he'll have a few good games. The Eagles offense is awesome. Or as been up to this point. However, if you're expecting 200 yard games or a 1200 yard season... Nope. In fact, and I hate to say it because I really like Ajayi, he probably won't be in the league much longer. After watching him run last season I thought the talk about his knees were hyperbole, but after watching him this season it's clear that he's running on some broken wheels. The Dolphins were lucky to get a 4th.
Completely agree. But the one thing they dont do that we are littered with is non-value contracts. You can go through almost their entire roster and not find more than 1-2 overpays. Our entire team is riddled with them. Pouncey is not a vlaue given how injured he is, Branch is an absolute horrific contract for a below average player when we already had a position of strength there with Harris, Wake, and Hayes, Stills is a nice player but a huge overpay, Kiko Alonso is simply put not a good football player and hasnt been since he got injured his rookie year, even Suh is overpaid despite still being a monster. All those overpays kills depth and makes it hard to fill a roster without major holes. This team only has a few holes, but they are just so glaring because of all of those overpays and what they do to hamstring the team as far as building depth. Trading Landry for a 2nd round pick would be a great move.
Kiko has been awesome. Branch has been really good. Stills is an above average WR but the QB doesn't have enough time to get him the ball deep so that limits his ability.
Agreed. I thought they should be able to get more than a 4th though, but i guess thats his value and just the value of RB's in general. I dont see Ajayi getting any kind of significant 2nd contract in this league, especially with his uselessness in the passing game.
I put him on ignore. He's been away for how long? He only comes around to whine and cry. He's a troll.
Kiko has not been awesome, he is one of the most overrated players on this team. Branch has literally never been really good and was one of the consensus worst contracts all offseason, and Stills is probably above average so id agree there, I just think he was overpaid.
no RB should be signed to a significant contract this offseason. Its a huge waste of salary cap space and that position is incredibly interchangeable.
I'm not sure who you've been watching this season, but Kiko has been playing at an all-pro level. Branch won't get any pro-bowl votes because the pro-bowl is about popularity nowadays, but he's playing at a pro bowl level. And Stills skill set is just hampered.
I agree with Stills skill set being ****ed with this QB play, but most people should look good playing next to Suh and Wake. He is not more than an average player, has graded out as below average by PFF every year of his career, and his contract is horrific and his production could have been found for a fraction of the cost. My problem with his is more his contract than his average-below average play. Kiko is just not good against the pass. He has also been terrible according to PFF every year since his injury. He is constantly a step slow against the pass.
Yeah, the Carroo trade does not look good, 1 1/2 years in. I'm not sure how much better it's going to get either. I'd like to see what he does with a proper QB next year though.
I was hoping they would sign Bobby Rainey in the off season. That guy will run where you tell him too, has good hands, and blocks well.
I think he is just a lost cause. And it appears almost every single time he plays that he is being yelled at for ****ing up by guys like Landry.
Nah, I’m not sweating trading away a Pro Bowler for a low 4th round pick. Clearly we should side with Gase. It’s not like Ajayi turned the season around last year.
You should, we flipped a 5th-round, limited shelf-life back who apparently was putting himself before the team. With all of his talent, you'd think he would be having a better year this year.
I’m saying wait a few games because the Eagles will be facing some of the highest ranked defenses now. I’m sure he’ll still score at least 1 TD, instead of a goose egg with the Great Gase Guru and the lowest ranked offense in the league that fielded a cokehead as an OL coach
Im sure he will be really good there. They have a really good QB and a great OL. That wont make this any less of the right move.
