He's still involved. He is the HC after all...But he's not the main cog when it comes to calling the plays. I assume, however, that he can veto any play at anytime. But, he's not sending in 80%+ of the plays..
for a screen the line lets em in anyways so I see it as a mute point of trust, they let em in anyways so why not have em do something else and get out and block for someone down field lol
Trust me dude, I hate getting new coaches too. But I think that this is a pretty obvious situation where we do not have the right guy. On a brighter note, I think it is pretty obvious that we have a solid roster, and it will not be like previous years where marquee coaches will be turning us down. I would blow up the front office too. Realistically, we could fix the line in one offseason (draft + free agency) and our team would be significantly better. Even a below average play caller should be able to get decent production out of our team.
That's a bunch of BS Dan. Stop trying to cover for gase and his inept playcalling. Most of the little success we have had this year has come with playactiion so don't tell me we can't block well enough for it. The problem is we dont call playaction enough and instead call too many buble screens and short flat routes which fail every single time.
If you remember, early on in the season, I too was calling for Gase to call better plays. However, he's not calling the plays. So, hence me not calling for Gase to call better plays.
It's not that simple. The teams play dictates the play calling. As Gase said, he's simplified the offense so much due to the players inability to learn the offense. IN doing so, defenses are better able to scheme against these simple plays.
its actually very simple, your paid to do a job and if you cant do it to the ability the team needs you to, to win, then there's a nice spot on the bench with eager other guys to take your spot. so I suggest stop babying and holding hands and just start playing nfl football. obviously dumbing it down is as easy to read as green eggs and ham for other teams, so as a coach that needs to change whether hes calling the plays or not.
how are there limited plays to call all these guys have been with gase for 2 yrs+ so is this simplified for cutler?
You can only cut so many people. Money is guaranteed, roster spots are limited, training up people mid season is difficult. I've been saying for awhile now that the Dolphins need to look more at intellect than skill. Of course you can't get a 150lb genius to play o-line, but you need smart guys to play on the line. The Dolphins don't have smart people playing in most places.
Whatever information you have I see gase checking his play sheet every game and calling the plays in. Even if someone else as you claim is calling the plays gas has final say and the buck stops with him. And if gase doesnt know how to teach his offense so that the players can run it and therefore has to simplify it to pop Warner levels then that also is his fault. Most of the guys on this offense have been in the system for at least two years now there is no excuse for them not knowing it other than gase' s bad coaching. Even Cutler was brought in because he knew the offense and still gase can't get these guys to understand it and play in sync. This is all on gase and his bad coaching, even the bad oline play is his fault since he refused to properly address the guard position in the off-season and also completely failed to realize that his oline coach was an incompetent stripper loving cokehead junkie.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand all credibility lost there. Seriously though, the Gase hate is way overblown. The team is not executing, plain and simple. The OL is not blocking, the backs are not blocking and letting blitzers through, QBs are not setting the right protection, not throwing accurately, receivers are dropping balls and falling down when breathed on. Defense is gassed and is now getting gashed. As far as playcalling, I think Gase (via gameplan or direct calls, I don't know who's specifically calling plays) is trying to be to rote early to set up later stuff, but it's putting us in a hole that our ****ty execution can't fix. There was at least one drive where Romo blataly said THAT'S A TOUCHDOWN IF THEY EXECUTE! It's true. From Damien Williams tripping over air, to Moore sailing it 5 yards in front or behind, we are just not executing. The playcalling and gameplanning needs some work, but we just don't have much to work with atm.
I cant agree much more with you, I don't see how hes not the decision maker with the plays having a sheet in front of him he may not send them in but id bet hes involved 90% of them
There's a lot more to it, but yes, Gase is culpable for some of this team's ****ty play. However, he's not close to being this team's biggest problem.
You'd lose that bet. Again, he's the HC and of course he's involved with the offense. He's not, however, the primary play caller.
if hes involved hes at fault either way so its 6 of 1 half a dozen of another hes allowing these plays to go in so obviously hes comfortable with them so he might as well be calling em if he is or not.
Okay, and calling for Gase's head is the solution to saving the dolphins this season ? The struggle starts up front with this pathetic offensive line we have been parading. We are a predictable offense and everything we do the opposing defenses are hounding on. You cannot expect our defense to perform any better because they are on the field for most of the game. We need a change up front on that offensive line. I want gase to remain because he is indeed a good head coach.
Then he needs to change whoever IS calling the plays. Then change the formations, such as going with an extra Tackle or two TE sets to help chip on the DEs. You can compensate for a bad OL, but to line up in the same formations and run the same plays? Madness. At the end of the day, Gase is the one who is responsible for the WORST offense in the NFL this year.
I said that yesterday before the game, they need 2 te sets more to get ajayi going which in terns helps the qb I mean at what point when your not doing anything do you go to the back of the playbook and grab a flea flicker or something ya know I mean we were getting our brains smashed and kept throwing 5 yard stop routes and screen passes it was unreal to me that an nfl play caller can be that bad as well as gase allowing it
Exactly just like in the comments of cutler and gase, why does everyone pick out 1 specific thing, hes a qb whisperer WTF? its asinine to me how quick people label guys. What if Chicago knew they sucked and gase let cutler just let it fly and it worked out sometimes gambling works ya know. im not saying the guy isn't a good HC but I don't see the amazingness out of him or cutler for the hype they brought. im tired of the mediocre play I wish gase would sit people who cant learn the playbook so we don't look so remedial. we have got shutout 3 times in 7 games that's almost 50% of the games hahah its such a joke lol
If I ever see another bubble screen to Landry for zero or negative yards again I think I will have to quit watching football.
I wanted us to hire Bowles when we had the chance, that roster for the Jets is garbage and they nearly beat the Patriots.
Moore was throwing it to a spot leading the RB like he was supposed to. Damien Williams tripped over air and screwed up the play. That play in general though was a microcosm of the offense last night.
That particular play was an all-out blitz and Moore had less than a second to get the ball out. There was nobody in the secondary and it was the PERFECT call in reaction to what the defense showed, but that one was clearly on Williams. From what I could see live (and I'm sure as heck not going back to watch a replay of that game...), I think his foot hooked a lineman one step prior and then he fell on the next few steps. I know some complained about Romo but I really enjoyed him for the game. For instance, he said that if Stills would have released to the outside on that deep route, he would have been in position for the easy score. Going inside and having to curve around cost him a half second. He said a similar comment on Grant- a little guy just can't turn and elevate to grab a timing throw. Parker could do it easy though because it didn't take a huge leap. I wish Romo would call all our games, I found it really educational on stuff a lot of us wouldn't normally think of.
That was me about ROMO and he still talks to much he needs to dial it down its annoying, my fav part is that both commentators where jokin on how bad the game and the teams where from jump street lol
Let's see, you guys dissing Gase have probably already posted, "So happy to eat crow" at least twice this year. What a joke. Easy to complain when there's no consequences for you personally, huh?
Gase was lucky last season, we won a lot of games we should have lost, and this season everybody has figured out his offense. He is not a novelty anymore and he has failed to change and adjust.
I have not actually eaten crow if you are referring to me. There is still not a single instance of my "complaining" where I have been proven wrong so far, although I really wish there were if it meant us not getting embarrassed on national TV.
