...unless you are Pennington, Henne, or an OL or DL picked in this year's draft, you are not safe in Miami. We've heard the rumors about John Beck. We even heard more than a rumor about Ronnie Brown, we heard a denial; something to the effect, "I will not be the coach at Alabama" or something like that. We've now traded Travis Daniels. I read somewhere that Chris Crocker (whoever that is) is getting work on the first team ahead of Jason Allen. If I am JA, I would keep a back packed. It'll be interesting to see if this trend continues. Conventional wisdom says that we should lock up Vernon Carey to a LTC ASAP. But with these guys, who knows? It might be the second round pick that we get for Ronnie Brown that we bring in VCs replacement. I really like Vernon, but you know.... I'll be very surprised if Chad Pennington even plays again once he gets injured. These guys came in with a serious house cleaning mentality. The bad news is, I don't know anyone's number anymore. I am really going to have to study the roster to know who is playing in week 1.
If you let Carey go for nothing it's pure stupidity. They won't do it. They're this close to not having to spend a high pick on the offensive line for years.
Other than a past the prime, injury prone Zach Thomas and a JT that didn't want to play here anyway, who have they dump that was a big surprise or a major talent ?? Sure we've gone thru some 'housecleaning', but no more or less than Saban did when he came here... Is anyone 'safe' ?? No...and if Pennington craps out during the year, Henne will be in there so fast that it'll make your head spin...same as just about any other regime... I don't see the big deal...
I like the idea of keeping players who have earned it. Keeping players who show potential always bites us later.
Well I like most of the stuff these guys are doing, I still don't really understand the trade of Lorenzo Booker. He'd be the perfect back to complement Ricky and Ronnie. That quick change of pace third down back. Had we done that we wouldn't have needed to draft 2 running backs... but hey, they know more than me.
How are two rumors that never came to fruition plus the trade of Daniels proof of anything? I don't think it's safe to say that at all.
They can't release, trade or cut everyone, as much as they might prefer others to the people we have, they can't get rid of everyone for the slightest miscues, its just not feasable. They will have to keep crowder, allen, and several others around at least for this season. I don't think the daniels trade was anything but another team in dire need for more options in the secondary and miami actually haveing an expendable person there. Great move that i think was timing/situation rather than the FO trying to move daniels because he didn't fit here.
I haven't heard a single word on Lionel Dotson so far since he was drafted. Basically once the cut date gets here, Ireland and Parcells are going to do an immediate upgrade of all 2nd and 3rd string guys. All year long they are going to keep those uniform people in the locker room busy as hell.
i stand corrected... youre right freestlye about five lines from the bottom (of article, not comments), there is a mention on crocker over allen link
Thanks, Freestyle...you saved me the trouble of having to go back and re-read it, even though I knew it was right.
well at first i was skeptical with ALL that they're trying to do (they being Parcells, Sparano, & Ireland) ... but given how much they've done since they've gotten here, and how well it has worked thus far, i can't help but think these guys are freakin geniuses. Before this season started, i was thinking 3, maybe 4 wins would be nice. now? it's looking like we might surpass .500 wouldn't that be something? heck, cut everyone and start all over at this point. the only legacy players i didn't want to lose were JT and ZT anyway, and they're both gone (but forever on my wall with my $10 fatheads!) i'm a believer in Parcells, Sparano, & Ireland. DO IT!
