I suspect this is also a shot across the bow from Gase, directed at anybody who isn't performing up to snuff. And if that doesn't work, I expect players like Maxwell and Julius Thomas to be cut outright. Both are underperforming and would cost no dead money against the cap next year. Last year Gase had to cut players to get the message across. This year he may have to cut highly-paid players.
I hope they help the rookie out with some scheme. But this was a move that had to be done. Maybe it lights a fire under him
Here's the thing, if Gase is doing this to light a fire (again), I don't think it works. Roll with the rook for the rest of the season, good or bad. The experience will pay off. Miami now has a 2nd year and a rookie starting against a HOFer who is showing no signs of stopping anytime soon. The D-line has to play lights out today. Missing Tony Lippett already.
Isn't Tankersley a slow learner when it comes to schemes? Like I would expect them to use him in man pretty much. Even then he needs to mug people so hopefully not too many penalties. This could be very interesting, depending on how he is used. Do the Saints have a big physical receiver that they would use him on?
Not that it’s good for anyone to get injured, but I’m glad the benching is because of injury and not because of performance. Benching your starting corner in favor of a rookie in the third game of the season would smack of desperation
Tank had a hell of a game. He played very well. The corners were finally pressing and contesting throws this game. I say tank should be the permanent starter.
I don't beleive Maxwell was injured, but how do you bench a guy like that without a hallabullo and ego getting bruised, and media fracas ensuing... well, you say he's dinged up so he saves face. I'm sure he has a sore hammy that he would have played through if he'd been playing well the past two weeks.
