I like what I'm hearing from Coach Gase.

Here are Gase’s other updates from this afternoon:

    — The “carryover” he sees from last year is that players have confidence they can win games even in disadvantageous situations.

    — The season-long plan to deal with not having a bye week is to shorten up some Mondays and “steal some (off) days here and there when you can.”

    — Gase says it’s not imperative that the Dolphins have “a go-to guy” in the red zone. He says every skill player on his roster has something unique he can do in that area.

    — Gase continues to harp on his own bad play calling from Sunday. “It was one of those situations where I wasn’t believing in how they were playing us,” he said. “I was waiting for (defensive coordinator Gus Bradley) to take the next step, but he just stayed with what he was doing.” Essentially, he was overthinking it. He called it “trying to be too cute.”

    — Gase says the Dolphins have not made a decision on Lawrence Timmons. He will not guarantee that Timmons will eventually be back on the roster.

    — Right tackle Ja’Wuan James played what Gase described as his best game since Gase’s arrival.

I am going to be harsh on Gase. I am kind of tired of him saying "he had a bad day." He didn't understand the play calling was bad in the first half? Did he not realize putting his defense back on the field with 1:15 left was suicidal? Also, there is no substitute for a bye. We can buy days here and there, but a bye week means no football and no injuries. Miami just has to buckle up. We lost a bye and it will be devastating. No sugar coating. That bye was perfect because after the bye we play NE twice and Denver. Let's see what mettle they have. there certainly is a go-to-guy in the red zone. They have issues, plain and simple, in the red zone. Is Julius Thomas the answer? Fasano? You have good pass catching backs with Williams and Drake. The bubble screen needs to be eliminated to give us better down and distances on the other two plays. It's a dumb play that doesn't work and running it 6-8 times a game is equivalent to losing a drive in a game. Finally, as for Timmons. Miami can be stubborn all they want. They need him in the lineup. If they had depth, we could have a different conversation. I think if Timmons wants to play, a 2 game suspension is enough. The Saints defense is real bad and their offense is capable of making crucial mistakes. We have a realistic chance of starting 3-0. And after all the negative things happening here and history of slow starts, a 3-0 start could go a long way. Play your horses. There is no pattern of behavior, this isn't Dion Jordan.

LOL...what do you want him to say? He understands his play calling was bad. He is owning it. Thats what he calls for from his players, thats what he's doing. We all saw it. I posted about it. If I see it, everyone should be able to see it.

He didn't plan or agree to eliminate the bye. The league did that. What can he do except mitigate in any way he can? He's not saying he's glad there is no bye so he can shorten Monday practices. There is no bye, he's sucking it up and doing the best he can. Would you you rather him take your approach and belly ache publicly?

I think he knows Drake and Williams need to be involved more.

Are you still questioning him on Timmons? Timmons did what he did, the team did what they did. Gase didn't cause this. Its not his fault. He's got the whole team culture to worry about...not just how X and O are affected by a player he's not sure he can trust. Besides, there is a business side to this equation. They are trying to recoup every dime they can back from Timmons. I hope they get it.

He has to be better and the DBs have to be better...or we could be 1-1. The Jets don't feel sorry for us. No team will. He understand that. I am glad he is our coach. At his age, with what he is going through, we have the opportunity to have a great tenure here and establish a Pittsburgh continuity. After what we went thru with Wannstedt, Saban, Cameron, Sparano, and Philbin...I am loving that fact that we have this guy as our coach.

Now he has to win a playoff game.

I disagree with Gase, I thought he called the right game in the first half, I thought the conservative approach by him and the calculated approach by the QB was necessary, and I like that he used minimal personnel to win..

It wasn't the conservative nature of the calls...it was screens to Ajayi, and using Jarvis on end arounds. Those aren't where our bread is buttered, in any case. They aren't necessarily conservative plays, but even if they work like they are drawn up, they are the wrong players to run those plays with.

But, I am done with the LA game. Its Jets Week. Talk about a game that will ruin the mood and the season--lose Sunday! Yikes. Take care of business, make the proper adjustments, go in with the right mindset and put these bastards out of the their misery. Nothing else will do!

Although the play calling in the first half was pretty bland, I thought it was the right approach. Our starters hadnt been on the field in a game for over 20 days. It was smart to ease them back in and try to get a little rhythm going.

The big thing for me is that he owned it at halftime of game one of the season- Philbin and Sparano sat back and blamed the players for not executing their grand vision for five years straight without a single adjustment.

Recognizing your faults in two quarters of football vs. five years of fist pumping ignorance. Hmm. Which coach would we rather have?

    He just cheats.

I hear him say he got out coached, and that he needs to coach better.

Not saying the play calling wasn't bad, but "my play calling was bad" is something Gase says a lot. I think he means it, but I also think he feels it's part of his job to take some of the heat when the offense struggles. Hope he doesn't say it too much, because after a while people either tune it out or they take him at his word and think, "okay, maybe you shouldn't call plays then?"

Bye -- like Redwine said, it's gone, not his decision, but he's got to deal with it. He's showing that he recognizes the problem and is mitigating it as best he can. That's all he can do.

Timmons -- we still don't know a lot, right? The team is definitely keeping a tight lid on that story, and Timmons seems to be cooperating with that effort. They signed another linebacker, but they haven't said Timmons is gone for good. Last thing I heard was:
"I think every situation's different," Gase said, "I would say that you can be forgiven if the right steps are taken."

That was a couple days ago. Any update?
