I am hearing rumors that the Saints might be cutting him. If they do, id be Interested. I know we signed Mauluga, but Id at least give consideration to SA if hes available. Of course, SA is subject to the waiver wire, so someone else could claim him.

A young guy that had a lot of promise when he came out in 2015. I'm not sure what his story was last season and why he dropped off the map. I know he suffered some kind of knee injury, but he lost the starting MLB position before he was hurt.

I'd definitely take a look at him.

Saints LB Stephone Anthony is dealing with a high-ankle sprain.

He's been sidelined for the last three weeks. With Alex Anzalone, A.J. Klein and Manti Te'o locked in as the Saints' starting linebackers, Anthony faces an uphill battle to crack the 53-man roster.

The competition at linebacker has become thick. It appears that Manti Te'o, A.J. Klein and Alex Anzalone have locked up the starting spots. Craig Robertson also has mixed in with the starters at times.

Anthony did not play much last season as he had trouble diagnosing plays. The team said it had seen progress in him throughout training camp, but he has not been able to display that growth during games because he has been out of action.

I'm sure Gase will get all the info on him he needs from Joe Vitt who coached him in New Orleans.

    Good call

Hope we keep S.Anthony on the inside. Once he gets up to speed & learns the playbook I don't see why he wouldn't be able to flourish in our system.

Sean Payton and Dennis Allen all but called him stupid... sort of like the way Schwartz said the same thing about Kiko before trading him from Buffalo.

Still, he was a stud for the Saints at Mike under Rob Ryan. Dennis Allen moved him to SAM, and he's struggled to the point of being cut.

Anthony's rookie season, he had 112 tackles, 5 TFLs, 1 sack, 1 INT, 2 FFs, 1 fumble recovery, and 5 PDs. I'd take that.

Supposedly he's got bad ankle right now...

Nothing more? He's better than what we've currently got and it just happens we need a Mike, whether he's anything else or not.

He was originally projected as a 3rd round pick back in 2015. He shot up draft boards into the 1st round due to his combine as I recall. He was pretty productive there as a rookie for the Saints.

I actually believe he's a run-and-chase WLB in a 4-3. Use the speed and explosiveness to chase down plays and cover the flats. He does not have to diagnose near as often as a WLB and his speed would be a welcome upgrade to our linebackers, who are all painfully slow.

I think he’s a good Mike due to his rookie season. However, I have to agree with you here. He could really benefit the Dolphins as the Will. However, will they move Kiki?

I wonder what the 2018 pick is? I'd guess 5th rounder given our need, maybe a conditional 6th that moves up based on playing time? The good thing is we should get by the Jets while he recovers from his ankle sprain, and maybe he gets a "revenge game" in London?

I'll be fine if he is ready to go by the Titans game, that is when we'll really need better LB play.

I'm not sure this automatically means anything about Timmons. There was talk that the Dolphins were interested in Anthony after they acquired Timmons and before Timmons lost his damn mind. lol

The writing seems to be on the wall for Timmons with the trade for Stephone, but I guess it could allow the team to have someone ready to replace Timmons if he flakes again? My feeling now is that he is as good as gone. I trust whatever direction Gase goes with this.

So if this move was prompted by the Timmons issue, why acquire a MLB? Obviously McMillan is out for the season and Mike Hull is debatable as serviceable in his absence, but is this just to acquire more talent to the LB corps? Do u guys think we brought him in to play MLB or Sam to replace Timmons void?

I don't see this as a move having much to do about Timmons, besides the fact he'll be out a few games and That makes our LB corp even weaker.

See this more as a needed upgrade to fill MLB over Maualuga and Hull. I see Maualuga much more on the hot seat for releases than Timmons.......(but truthfully non of us still know what the Timmons episode was about) but feel if Gase were cutting him loose it would have already been done instead of the suspensions......Timmons is just to great of a need to move on from...

Damn I all bit forgot about Maualuga, brain fart. So do you think They plan on playing Anthony at MLB and putting Hull on the pine? After he gets spun up of course. I don't know the working and structure of the Timmons contract but it appears to me that maybe they are suspending him the 4 games to recoup money and void his contract clauses....then maybe still cut him? Could be off base with that. I hope he gets his crap straight and they keep him. Punish him for his actions...and move on.

    Said MLB in first post.

IMO, 2 games tops for Timmons to be suspended. We definitely will try to recoup some money back, punish Timmons for his act, and Gase shows that he doesn't put up with crap like this.... Anything more is just to destructive to the team....We need T.....
but I'd be totally shocked if he was released or even given 4 gm suspension .

Maualuga is the one moving up the list of "is he worth keeping".. I think only reason he's still here is hes pretty cheap....
Surprised at that signing after learning and still seeing the lack of effort (still out of shape & now Hamstring)....
Kinda makes me wonder if he even really wants to play anymore. Anthony becomes a starter Maualuga is gone, IMO

You're right. I worded that badly. I meant that it was an indicator that they may be moving away from Timmons. In a hurry when I typed it today. I really think the suspension will be a couple of games tops. I am just guessing though. If they were after Anthony earlier then I'm glad to hear that because it means less desperation and more of a plan.

From what I read on Anthony, he just didn't fit the Saints scheme anymore. He does seem pretty perfect for what we're doing though and Anthony is super-excited to be coming to Miami and getting a new start. I read an article that he's super excited to turn a new leaf and show the NFL why he deserves to be anchoring a defense.

A lot of people were wanting to draft him in the 2nd or 3rd round IIRC. Spending a 5th isn't terrible.

Also Joe Vitt was the Saints LB coach and as well as Gase's FIL... bound to have been private conversations going on.

We've done well with guys the Saints have dumped going back to Gene Atkins and Rickey Williams...

He wasn't as a rookie. He didn't become a liability until they changed his position and responsibilities. I am not saying he will be great, but the kid was all over the field making plays...he looked like a bargain at the 31 pick.

Admittedly I haven't watched one rep of his at a pro level that's sandwiched between a lot of reps...must be able to watch all his reps to know what's going on, he had highlight reels in college as well, however, when you watched every rep it was apparent imo that he was a liability on the field..splash guys were there but so is the bad stuff..imo if he didn't know where the play was designed to go presnap, he's in trouble firguring it out post snap.

I haven't watched much of him either the past two seasons. But in 2015, he was excellent. He made the all rookie team, voted on by people that do watch more (perhaps not much more, but more) reps than us.

there are reasons why he was released from his first team after being a first round pick...those are serious red flags and probably an indictment on his game and football skills..

For me personally, I studied him a lot in college so it's not a surprise..what I'm hearing is exactly what I said in my writeups but I sure as hell will hope I was wrong and the saints staff are idiots..also for a fifth round pick I'm good with him being an ace special teams player where he doesn't have to think too much and a specialty linebacker, pass rush duties etc, backup..I think that's where we can get some value.

Sean Peyton and Dennis Allen said he was mentally to process what was happening in front of him and that was guessing at what to do instead of knowing.

Also, they hired Mike Nolan to come in and coach the LBs. He didn't want Anthony and was injured anyway. They were looking at cutting him when started discussions with them about trading for him. Grier was high on him back in 2015 and the team wined and dined him. If the Saints hadn't over drafted him, we may have taken him then in the 2nd.
